ACCESS AND GENERAL LOCATION Just past Milbridge, "Downeast Maine", a mile long winding dirt road takes you off the beaten path to a surprisingly quiet and pristine section of shore on a private point of land.
If you haven't been this far east on the coast of Maine yet, you'll soon find out that Downeast Maine offers all the scenic opportunities of western Maine but without the crowds (it's like having a huge playground nearly to yourself!).
THE SURROUNDINGS The cottage sits on a south facing bluff lined with wild rose bushes and affords long views down the Narraguagus Bay toward Bois Bubert & Petit Manan. The only other cottage on the point is about 300' away and the two are separated by a dense spruce thicket so you'll enjoy total privacy. The two cottages sit on 15 acres of land encompassing over 1,500' of shore front.
It is a perfect place to relax, enjoy quiet time, soak in the sounds and sights of nature and disconnect from it all. Wildlife abounds while humans are far and few!
With 10-15' tides, Sand Cove is in constant motion and the landscape is transformed with each tide cycle as the ocean comes and goes in a mesmerizing dance. At high tide, you might see the Ospreys and the bald Eagles looking for their next meal or seals swimming by, peeking their heads out of the water between dives. At low tide, a large exposed tidal flat invites shore birds to feast, as they go about following the water line or searching the sea weed on the rocks. There is a window during low tide when the water is not easily accessible.
ABOUT THE COTTAGE "Neap Tide" is a non-smoking rental. It is not pretentious but it is very comfortable and well furnished. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the essentials to cook anything you'd like. The living room adjoins a sunny deck through a twin set of glass doors which let in plenty of light and a magnificent view of the ocean and scattered islands.
Upstairs, the south bedroom has a queen size bed and the north bedroom has two twin beds which may be pushed together into a king size bed as needed (please let us know what your sleeping arrangement needs are when booking). An infant crib and a high chair are also available upon request.
From the deck, a short path takes you to the stairs leading down to a 1,400' long white sand beach, a rare treat in Maine! There is no public access across land to the beach so you'll seldom see anyone else there..... it's simply amazing!
This cottage is a perfect place for folks wanting to get away from it all. There is NO internet and NO television and cell phone reception varies (from good to sketchy) depending on the carrier and the weather. On the upside, you can really rejuvenate and be one with nature without unwanted distractions. But if that gets to be too much, the town of Milbridge is only 10 minutes away by car or 15 minutes by bicycle.
ENERGY AND CONSERVATION The cottage is off grid but it offers all the modern luxuries of a regular home with a full size refrigerator, a gas range, on demand hot water and AC electrical power throughout the house. The electricity is generated by a solar array feeding a battery bank so we ask guests to be mindful about energy use and to exercise good conservation practices. If this isn't something that you are familiar with or if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us, we're more than happy to explain.
THE TOWN AND AREA Milbridge (pop. ~1,500) is a picturesque coastal fishing town with a public dock and a beautiful waterfront park. A summer theater with free music programs and some movies on Fridays, a few casual restaurants as well as a very well stocked grocery store that offers everything from quick food "to go" to gourmet and specialty ingredients. On Saturday morning there is also a farmer's market by the grocery store.
ACCESS Jordan beach road is mostly flat and does not require 4WD, but there may be puddles to dodge after heavy rains and cars with extra low ground clearance may not be suitable. Parking space is limited and can accommodate no more than (2) normal vehicles. If you are traveling with a trailer, please contact us before making a reservation to make sure that there is sufficient space for it. Please note that ATV's and other recreational vehicles are not allowed on the access road.
ATTRACTIONS Mount Desert Island and the stunning Acadia National Park is under an hour by car. The remote and rugged Cutler Bold Coast is about 1 hour to the east. Roosevelt Campobello International Park is 1:20 minutes east (don't forget your passport if you plan to visit).

About the host
Hosted by Nathalie and Matt
We are semi-retired and live in Vermont in the winter, and in the other cottage on the point most of the summer with our big dog Tasha. We have been coming to Maine to explore the outdoors for over thirty years. We are experienced hikers, campers, canoeists, sea kayakers, cyclists, skiers and sailors.
We feel truly blessed to have found such a place and we're delighted to share it, along with any local knowledge upon request. We sincerely hope that you will enjoy and cherish this place as much as we do!
