Dreamy Creamery Barn Escape
The booking was made in April so excitement was high when we finally arrived for our 3 night stay as a 50th birthday surprise for my partner. We had 4 adults, one 13 year old and a dog staying and the barn was a perfect size to accommodate us all.
A main reason for booking the barn, apart from its location was the games room which proved a huge hit.
I’m going to get the snags out of the way quick so as not to detract from what really is a great place to stay.
There were many house spider cobwebs throughout the property, more attention needs to be paid on cleaning to dust room corners, light fittings and ceilings. The tiled and wooden floors are gorgeous but extremely cold - so don’t forget to pack your slippers. When using the main oven and the grill at the same time, the fuse kept tripping (3 times on one occasion whilst trying cook one meal - perhaps the route cause of this needs to be investigated?) So make sure you locate the fuse box. When putting clothes away in one of the wardrobes I found a mattress protector crumpled up in there - not sure if this was clean or dirty, however upon checking our bed there wasn’t a mattress protector on it. I love to cook and given it’s able to accommodate up to 8 guests, the pans provided weren’t large enough. Also many were dated or unclean. I get people probably more often than not take the opportunity not to cook when away, but if cooking facilities and utensils are provided they should be a of a good quality.
Like I said, I don’t want the above to detract from our stay as it was wonderful. The appliances are all of a great standard (the wine fridge was a particular hit!) The decor inside is neutral with some beautiful artwork making it very homely along with lots of comfy sofas and chairs and plenty of throws. And lots of tvs available - although we didn’t turn single one on. And as we had our four legged friend with us it was great to be able to close the gate on the drive to keep the outside area secure so she could explore. Outside would be a lovely space to use in the warmer months.
The immediate location is ideal - shout out to the Ship Inn for being a dog friendly pub. Great drinks and warm, friendly staff.
York is 30 mins away by bus and the bus stop is right outside the property, making exploring the city a breeze.
Overall, a great relaxing stay.
