Sophisticated and elegant apartment in the heart of the historic center of Varenna, a few steps from one of the most beautiful beaches of the village.



The apartment is located on the first floor of a building with no elevator and is spread over two levels. It opens onto the living area, consisting of an open space with a sofa, a television, a dining table and a fully-equipped kitchen. The sleeping area includes two bedrooms with a queen-size bed each, one of them situated on the second level of the apartment. Two bathrooms with shower complete the layout.

Lake Como offers some of the most striking urban, landscape and architectural gems of the entire Italian peninsula. Among these treasures stands Varenna, one of the most popular tourist destinations of Lake Como thanks to its wealth of history, art and culture. Villa Monastero and Villa Cipressi are among the most famous points of interest in the village, with their gardens, their beautiful landscapes and original furnishings. Varenna is the ideal place for a walk along the lake, its old town is famous for its peculiar alleys and the Walk of the Lovers, which connects the pier with the village. On the promontory overlooking Varenna you can also visit the Castle of Vezio, dating back to the second century BC, from to admire a 360 degree view. Nature is the frame of this territory and through paths and walks, such as the Greenway of the Patriarchs and the Wayfarer’s Pat, you can immerse yourself in the discovery of views and landscapes rich in history.

Connected to Menaggio and Bellagio by ferry service, it is also easily accessible from Switzerland, thanks to its central location on the eastern branch of Lake Como.



The apartment is 600 m from Varenna Pier and 1 hour and 10-minute drive from Orio al Serio Airport.

Beautiful Varenna

Overall this property was lovely. Very nice apartment and beautiful town with lots to do and places to eat. The only issue we had during our stay was a problem connecting to the Internet, which never got remedied, despite multiple tries to get help from the owners and thru VRBO.

Absolutely beautiful

Ours was a short but very sweet stay at Porta Rossa. We had to make last minute plans and fell into this gem! We want to come back again and will plan it when this place is available. Walking distance to train and all the shopping and boat trips you could ever imagine in the region.The views of the Lake Como were spectacular. Book this place whenever you can.

Beautiful Varenna!

Che perfezione! This was a wonderful place. Perfect location in Varenna with views of the lake and close to everything. Very fun apartment with everything you would need. Very clean and parking was a very short walk. Check-in was online and easy with the bonus of a lock box entry. Thank you for the wonderful stay! We cannot wait to return!

Perfect location and nice views

The property is centrally located where you will want to be, however that comes with a little bit of noise at night, but its totally worth it. The unit is clean and comfortable. The 2nd bedroom is up a pretty narrow spiral staircase so it's not conducive to bringing up large pieces of luggage. Overall, it was a really nice stay.

First visit to Lake Como

Lovely small apartment, nicely located. Clean and had all we needed. Small glitch with an air conditioning unit, but we were very happy to have any air conditioning on that hot weekend so we worked around it.

Great apartment for a friends trip!

My husband and I stayed here with another couple & had a great time! The apartment is pretty, modern, & comfortable for 4 people. Plus, the views of the lake!!! The location is perfect-right near the plaza with shops and restaurants, and it’s a short (hilly) walk to the lake. One thing to note-one of the bedrooms is upstairs via a small spiral staircase. It’s a bit challenging to bring up a heavy suitcase, but doable. And, the mini window view at the top is worth it!

Unfortunately, we had to abandon the property after one night. We tried working with the property management to resolve a few problems with no success. The most critical problem was that there were bedbugs or some similar type of bugs that bit one member of our party overnight, leaving evidence, as bugs do, on the bedding. There were a few other less critical problems that night (i.e.a fast leaking a/c unit). Although the correspondence with management was cordial, they were evasive and would not send a representative to inspect and correct, nor could they provide replacement towels for those we had to use to sop up the leaked water. This left us with no bed to sleep on for the second night and no towels. With no local resolution, we were finally helped by central VRBO who looked at the same photos we had submitted to the local management and agreed with us that the bug situation was bad. Therefore, VRBO promised a refund and luckily we found another place to stay in a very heavily over-booked vacation area where availability is hard to find.

Communication with hosts horrible

Place is in a great location and is spacious but the air conditioning didn’t work in the bedroom so basically had to sleep in a sauna. When I reached out to the hosts they instructed me to check a water tank on the balcony. There was no balcony. When I asked for further instruction invot no answer. Pattern here. Asked 2 other questions before arrival… no answer. Paid top dollar for a unit that was uncomfortable with hosts that didn’t care. I would steer clear of this place. Even when I told them I could not give the place a good review they didn’t respond. Only time I heard from the host was a text reminder that we had to be out by 10:30 at the latest and had to pack out our own garbage according to the lengthy contract they force you to sign online and in italian not English. Overall not a good experience.

The location was excellent. It was on level with the road and a small plaza with several restaurant sand you could walk down to the lake where more restaurant options were available. Once you walk down to the lake the views are spectacular. Ferry service is very accessible to the other towns. Biggest downside was communication in general. Took days to her back when sending a whats app message. Also ferry service must be purchased day of so you cant buy tickets for the next day ferries in advance. Lines for ferry purchase can be long, especiall for Bellagio so plan to get there early. Varenna was my favorite, and that was after visiting Belaggio, Melaggio and Como. It is the most charming and easy paced.

Beautiful view with convenient location

The apartment has a nice view and is conveniently located near the town center, as well as a small swimming beach. A coffee-maker with sufficient coffee and a washing machine with two detergent pods were provided and worked well. We hung our clothes to dry, using the many hangers in the closets. The weather during our stay was in the 90s F, and two of the four A/C units weren't working properly, making the loft a bit uncomfortable. Additionally, our suitcases were too big to bring up the spiral staircase, which was a little inconvenient. The apartment is probably better suited to backpackers, as is the town. Many streets are actually steep alleys of stairs, which is charming, but difficult when carrying large, heavy luggage. The wifi was spotty, but that could be a Varenna-wide problem with so many visitors packed into a town with fewer than 1,000 residents. I sent a WhatsApp about the A/C and wifi, but did not try the provided phone numbers due to issues with my international calling plan. We enjoyed our stay, swimming most days, sampling several good restaurants and gelaterias, visiting the villa gardens, and day-tripping to Bellagio and Bellamo. The ferries are busy, and private boats are expensive, but it was still fun, and we thoroughly enjoyed the nonstop gorgeous views. We would definitely consider returning!
