This is the first time I have ever had a guest complain about my property manager. Readers should take note of the other reviews (recent and over the years) and they will see most guests rave about my property manager who I have used since I built the house 20 years ago and how helpful she was to those guests with everything. I contacted this guest the morning of their second full day (8-16-21), asked them how their stay was going and if they needed anything and I never heard from them. Later in the week, a member of the guest party stated to my property manager that they had spoken with me and that I was "arrogant" and "full of myself" when there was absolutely no contact with me, via email, phone or otherwise. To me this shows that certain members of this group lacked veracity. I am not sure who authored the review of this property but I believe that member who made these false statements about speaking with me lives in the same household as the party making the reservation or made the review himself. Concerning cleanliness and disrepair, the property is very well maintained. Again see the reviews. When something breaks it is fixed (because of the remote location and no nearby Home Depot, I keep replacements for almost everything that might break or need replacing) and the rental comes with cleaning every third day of the rental period. Further, during 2020 when Costa Rica was closed to the US and other countries for over 6 months for Covid-19 reasons (middle of March 2020 until the fall of 2020), I took this opportunity to keep my property manager's employees working and have any needed repairs made, painting was done, a thorough deep cleaning of the entire house was done, including tile floors (100% of the floors in the house are tile), and we also upgraded the majority of the mattresses in the house, including the bunk beds, and brought in new linens. Not sure how the sheet ripped but we did not question how or claim it as damage during their stay. Following this guest's stay, I was contacted for the first time by a member in their party who emailed with a list of experiences that they had during their stay. He started out with this quote: "I must say I am highly offended and irritated by what has transpired on this trip. Starting from a representation, that was relied upon, for dates of availability that were attempted to be changed after flights and travel accommodations were purchased." This statement in quotes couldn't have been further from the truth. The original rental dates were in November 2021 and because airline tickets were very pricey, they asked to change the dates to August 6 - 14, 2021 which I confirmed and blocked out in the VRBO calendar. At that same time I confirmed the new dates, I advised them that I would be traveling (making my responses delayed over the next couple of days) and it would be OK to book their tickets for the changed dates (8-6 to 8-14) because they were blocked off. While I was away, without internet access and without first verifying availability with me of their NEW dates of 8-14 to 8-22-21, they decided to book airline tickets for these unconfirmed dates. I had tentative plans to come down and use the house for a friend's retirement party which was to be held on August 20th making a portion of the unconfirmed dates unavailable. During the period that I was unable to respond, I received two additional emails both with a panic tone about already booking tickets and that I had not confirmed their NEW second dates. When I responded to the guest about the conflict with their second change of dates and they told me they spent a lot of money to change their tickets. What I did next was offer a solution of me renting a friend's home for the 4 days I was to be down for the retirement party as long as I could access my private (non rented) bedroom to grab some things when I arrived and drop them back off when I left the area. They accepted this condition. One would think that the solution I offered resolved in their favor the problem with their booking airline tickets without first confirming the dates but based upon the way the email to me started, it appears that the truth about what actually happened was not shared or relayed to everyone in their group. In defense of the member of the party who sent me the email, I don't think he was privy to the actual VRBO email exchanges and just heard what his mom or dad told him about the change of dates. Because of this, I feel many of these guests arrived with a chip on their shoulder not realizing what really happened with the booking of airline tickets BEFORE they had confirmation of the available dates and this set the tone for most of the members of this party, despite my accommodation of letting them have their unconfirmed dates and me renting somewhere else.
