Great house for active family

We loved this house! The pool was great, the decks were great, and the family room/kitchen area was perfect for our family! The bed rooms were a good size, water pressure wasn't that great, but we got over it! Close to grocery stores and Walking distance to a ice cream shop and a great restaurant Red Drum! We are a active family so the beds felt great after running on the beach and swimming! The decoration was great for a beach house! It was great having a bathroom in every bedroom! Some things that i have to say about the house; if you are traveling with a young one, bring your own travel crib. The one at the property is hard and uncomfortable. The dumb waiter didn't work like it was suppose to. Trash under the beds. The pool wasn't heated. The vaccums were terrible! It we all had a great time at the house! It's a beach house! It's not suppose to be perfect! We are already talking about next year!

Awesome Potential but Neglected and Dirty.

We arrived at the house on the tail end of a Hurricane so there are a few things that I will chalk up to bad weather and it being the end of the season. The house has a great layout. Top floor and main living space are open concept with a loft full of toys and books. The top floor master has a great view of the ocean and is spacious. The middle level poker room is odd, the other three bedrooms are small but fine. The basement floor has the rec room and a roomy bunk room. Each room having its own bathroom is great. The house is kid and family friendly. There's a door alarm on the pool sliding door, they have a high chair, outlet covers, and kid games and books. Working with Elan was pretty easy. I walked in, scooped up a welcome kit and keys and was on my way in 5 minutes. The welcome kit has thoughtful additions like Food Lion coupons, laundry and dish soap, clean dish towels, as well as general instructions on the property, procedures, etc. However, the house generally seemed both neglected and dirty. Again, I'm unsure if this was coming on the end of a hurricane and both checkout of previous guests and cleaning were hasty and incomplete, but I was not pleased. Maintenance Issues: -The smell upon walking in was like heavy industrial cleaner and old carpet. There is carpet on the middle floor and it looks old and disgusting. -there's some fascia missing on the side of the house. We couldn't sleep on the top floor because the remaining piece would whistle and bang in the wind. -the grill is basically unusable. The previous guests had used various kitchen items, like a cookie cooling rack, to cook on because the grill grates are disintegrated. It had blown down in the hurricane so we also had to reassemble parts of the grill to use it. The outside is extremely rusty and could use a weekly wipe-down -the screen doors all need to be rescreened because of big holes -the dryer vent is broken and snags clothes -the washer door needs to be left open or it smells like mold -paint peeling on the house -pool concrete is not level, water sits on the pool deck, furniture is broken Cleaning issues: urine and trash on the floor in bathroom threadbare sheets dirty dish towels from previous guests food and trash under sofas moldy showers moldy deck chairs trash from previous guests in laundry room food and trash under beds Either Elan needs to raise their standards or I won't be staying here again, nor will I recommend it to friends.

Lovely beach place, only a couple of complaints.

We all loved staying here. The kids had a ball in the pool. Gorgeous decor, comfy beds, wish we could stay there another week. Complaints are few: grill didn't work, looks like fuel line is blocked. TV was difficult to use unless you are technically competent. I had difficulty getting to the beach because climbing over the sand dune. ( I'm over 80) .

Great location!

Great location for beach access, shopping & places to eat; well stocked kitchen; great response from property management when a challenge arose after hours; and good amenities. The only negative was the road coming in as it is falling apart. Overall great experience!

Cleanliness

All ceiling fans had several layers of dirt/dust hanging from them. Bathroom throw rugs needed washed. Front load Washing machine has slime and mild around seal. It needs "Afresh" wash with each checkout.

Great layout and location - need new cleaning people

We actually loved our first vacation in OBX and I just came on the see if we can rent this place again so obviously, the good outweighed the bad. That said, however, we were told check in was at 3pm. When we arrived after a long trip that began at 6am, the cleaning lady had just STARTED cleaning the house. It reeked like cigarette smoke (I'm pretty sure she was the one smoking while 'cleaning') and NOTHING had been done - no beds stripped or garbage removed or fridge cleaned out. We called and complained and Elan did send additional (very nice) people to help clean but we just wanted it done and the other people out so we could start our vacation. After they left, we noticed hair in the tubs - so they obviously weren't cleaned as hair things and chunks of hair remained - and junk on the cabinets and in the fridge etc... The screens had holes as noted by someone who stayed there after us. Interestingly, the maintenance guy came and took the screens to 'fix' them while we were there so that's confusing. Maybe Elan needs to manage fewer properties and/or get a bigger crew. The serenity and beauty of OBX made up for all of this though and by the next day, none of those things mattered. We loved the location as we went to Harris Teeter frequently and the walk to the beach wasn't too bad. It was awesome to have the pool for the kids to continue playing after or before a long beach day. Disappointed my week for 2017 is booked already :( I would have booked again.

This is our 6 year and we just love it. Especially the heated pool, however we noticed not enough chairs and lounges around the pool. Other than that, it's perfect for our family.

person renting the house

The house was perfect. We really liked the fact that each bedroom had it's own bathroom. The pool was great as I did not make it to the beach. The walk over the sand was too much for me but the rest of the family loved it. I was not happy that I was not given a choice about the security deposit. We had a few ants show up in the kitchen. The only other complaint I had was the pool area perimeter was covered in weeds. My daughter pulled up all of them she could get out and the area looked so much better. The greatest thing was the outside dumb waiter.....it was such a plus dealing with suitcases and food. All in all the family had a wonderful time and we loved the house. The younger generation took advantage of jet skis and the obstacle course plus the Wright Brother's site.....also took in the lighthouse and the horses up north. The women took a trip to Mantoe Island for some shopping. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed the stain Nag's Head.
