Getaway before Surgery

My husband and I were looking for an quiet & cozy romantic getaway before a major surgery. So happy to have found this absolute gem. This place was incredible, even better than the pictures! Mercedes met us at check in to show us around and how to work all of the lights/gadgets and then left us to our weekend. I still cannot get over how amazing the experience was. The decor is one of a kind, I found myself wandering around the house trying to take everything in. We went skiing at Plattekill and came back to The cozy villa hot tub warm and ready. Honestly it was the best stay we have ever had, like a private hotel. Mercedes was super responsive and left us local cream and eggs! Could not have asked for a better stay, I highly recommend and will be back!!

This was a perfect spot for our weekend getaway with friends! It has everything you need, just bring food and beverages and enjoy the peace and solitude. Mercedes is a wonderful host, and will answer any questions you may have.

I can’t say enough about Mercedes! My husband and I planned a weekend getaway and our trip was delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. Mercedes has been kind, understanding, accommodating and available for all communication! A new happy place!

Hands down, this is the best vacation rental I’ve ever stayed in. Five stars isn't enough! From the moment of booking all the way through checkout, everything was absolutely flawless. Mercedes was so communicative and welcoming upon first contact! She provided the best recommendations for local shops, restaurants, etc. and I became that much more excited for our visit to Villa Sposa. It is an incredibly easy property to find and travel to, so that’s a big plus. Anything you may need/want to visit or grab is not especially far in either direction. Upon our arrival, Mercedes and Aldo greeted us and gave us the grand tour of the incredible home. It was great to meet them both, learn how to use all the tech, discover the amenities, and hear more about the history of the space! We stayed over the New Year holiday and the entrance was adorably appointed with a festive display! The beds and linens were fantastic. The furniture was immaculate and cozy. The décor was unparalleled. The hot tub made for pleasant winter evenings. The fireplaces, robes, slippers, soaps, shampoo/condition, etc. added an extraordinary level of comfort that really amplified the vacation experience. The kitchen had everything you would possibly need. The view, the open skies, the tucked away placement amongst nature… it was all just so perfect. What a stellar sanctuary from city life. My heart was bursting with gratitude the entire stay. It still is. This is not a place to miss! I’ll never stop gushing about the style of this place. The aesthetic is a hybrid of regal Rococo luxe and Wes Anderson sets, with the added dash of the host’s thoughtful personality. I joked with friends that the villa made me feel like Marie Antoinette Tenenbaum. Seriously, all guests should anticipate spending time just wandering around and taking in all the really subtle touches Mercedes put into the décor of the villa. I swear up until the moment of my departure I was still finding little things to appreciate. Although it was sad to leave, checkout was a breeze. Many thanks to Mercedes and Aldo for sharing this special home with others! I cannot wait to go back :)

Fabulously Fun!

Mercedes out host was wonderful! She met us and showed us around the property, telling us it's history. It is fantastically decorated in a Wes Anderson style. There are many humorous details including a Jaguar Shark in the spa room. The kitchen was fully equipped, the beds were comfortable, the views out the windows lovely. You feel like you are completely on your own, yet town is only 15 minutes away. We were there in the winter which was beautiful with it's stark bare trees and rushing creeks from the melting snow. I imagine Spring, Summer, and Fall must be spectacular! We look forward to returning during other seasons!

Perfect for a romantic getaway

We had a wonderful stay and the hosts were superb! I would equate the experience almost like a private hotel. As another review mentioned, it would have been great to have a comfier place to watch tv in front of the fire but house is so beautiful and the decor is amazing. Would absolutely recommend.

Eclectic Perfection

Where to even begin. This place is like none other we’ve ever stayed in, and we go away / rent fairly often (about 5-10x per year). The decor is so funky and interesting and each room and section tells a story. We rented this place for a double date Valentine’s Day weekend getaway with my partner and 2 of our closest friends. Mercedes was wonderful from day one. Very responsive and super helpful. She made excellent suggestions for local places and even helped pick up some flowers and cookies to surprise my partner when we arrived, and got amazing local half and half for our morning coffee. We unfortunately couldn’t use the hot tub, but the sunken jetted tub in the master bathroom was perfect. We can’t wait to come back when it’s warm to use the outdoor bathtub, amazing deck, nearby hiking spots and meditation room! Mercedes also had wine waiting for us and a special Valentine’s Day edition Brie cheese. The beds were SUPER comfortable and the dining room was very spacious - enough for a dinner party, really! It’s a very serene, relaxing place and we got to see quite a few deer visitors! Thank you again for a wonderful stay - we can’t wait to come back!

Artistic Triumph

Mercedes has designed the ultimate magical escape. Her attention to every detail is so far beyond any other rental that it is on a different class. The magical animal menagerie with Peacocks, Zebras and birds wearing hats. The one of a kind matching wallpaper and pillows and blankets. The full compliment of Reidel glassware. The formal dining room for 16 or mor people! The Catskill mountain marvelous water!!! The outdoor hot tub and fire pit. The indoor sunken jacuzzi. The separate meditation chapel. The grand piano. The two remote controlled fireplaces. The interesting shops to visit nearby including the first NY cannabis shop I have experienced in nearby Roxbury. Guaranteed experience you will never forget. Mercedes is a visionary artist at another level. She and Aldo deal immediately with any issue. You could not ask for better hosts. If I could have added additional stars, I would have. Wow, wow wow!!!

Amazing place at Roxbury, NY

The property is beautiful inside and out. The house was very clean and spectacularly decorated. The owner was very attentive to our needs and check in on us to ensure we had everything we needed. An amazing experience overall.

A magical stay

We were a party of 5 attending a wedding nearby. The property is more fabulous in person than the photos. Mercedes was such a great host had the best eclectic taste and sense of humor. We had a great time just marveling at the decor and finding sassy and hilarious little details in everything around the villa. I can definitely imagine this being a fantastic and unique micro destination wedding venue. The hot tub as some other have commented may take a full day to heat up so I'd recommend requesting that in advance. Hope we can be back some day!

Great spot for staycation/honeymoon!

My husband and I got married last Saturday May 29th and I can’t think of a better place to stay in the area for newlyweds! We’re waiting to go on our honeymoon until it’s safer to travel internationally and decided to stay in the Roxbury area for a few days instead. Glad we did! The master suite made us feel like royalty with the huge bed and jacuzzi tub. We also really enjoyed the gas fireplace in the master bedroom- we frequently made use of the serving tray provided and ate many meals in front of the fire! We were also surprised on our wedding night- Mercedes coordinated with our parents to put together a romantic setting (flower petals, bath salts, champagne, etc.). We had issues with the hot tub, it took about 18-24 hours to heat up to the mid 90s, but with other amenities like the jacuzzi tub, fireplaces, and outdoor fountain/fire pit, it didn’t put a damper on our stay at all. We also had an issue with the antique bed joints coming loose near the foot of the bed. However, Mercedes was very responsive (gave us her personal cell so we could immediately get in touch) when we needed help and arranged to have it fixed while we were out one afternoon. This listing seemed a little pricey to me, but after staying there I can absolutely say it was worth it. It’s a perfect play to feel pampered and get that much needed alone time with your partner if you’re looking for a quiet retreat.

Just wonderful.

Great experience. The house is the perfect mix of funky/fun and relaxation. We went for a few days of skiing at Bellayre and it’s 15 mins away so super convenient. The hot tubs made a world of difference for those sore bones. Can’t wait to come back!

Escape to Villa Shalom!

My husband and I took a 3 night getaway to the villa and had a fabulous experience. Mercedes is the best host we’ve ever had - she greeted us to show us around the house and left us local cider, cheese and crackers. She also made herself available for questions while we were there and even picked up an emergency drugstore item I needed on her trip into town and left it at our door. The villa is decorated beautifully with all sorts of fun and funky international items and has everything you need to relax- tv, good internet, amazing tubs and showers with lots of hot water, one-click fireplaces. There are also lots of nice touches like personalized Villa Shalom shampoo and conditioner. Definitely book here!

My Husband and I have traveled international for work for the past 30 years, sometimes our paths cross Africa, Mexico. Chile for example. He works in construction and I in Fashion which is part of my everyday life having a boutique right outside of Roxbury and my corporate offices in the garment center. We have met the most incredible people and experienced the most amazing places and food in this beautiful rock we spin on. This Villa encompasses the heart of many of our travels, an eclectic mix of beauty, luxury, and intrigue. Both New Yorkers (I am a native) and we are both of Cuban descent. Cooking, surreal art, senior rescues dogs and McDonald French fries are my thing. My husband just enjoys the ride. Fun fact; I have eaten McD fries in 28 countries (maybe more).

This Villa came to us in a dream… really a late-night text saying that if anyone knew what to do with this house it would be us since it looked like it was owned by drag queens and had been put back on the market after years of being abandoned.
Turns out it was owned by a priest and his mom. No joking here! I have been told he was a great man who loved and respected everyone. We wrote the check out to a group of nuns and after months of waiting for the final Vatican approval, it was ours. I kid you not!!! It's the perfect place to escape, work, and live.

It has such a comfortable relaxing vibe and without getting too crunchy metaphysical granola these incredible Catskills mountains are healing and claiming. Everyone that has stayed with us has mentioned they hadn't had such a great night's sleep since (fill in the blank here). Both of us being from intense industries we wanted to give this indulgence to those that come from far and close to visit. A place to reunite with each other and nature or a place for newlyweds to enjoy their honeymoon night far from the stress of the BIG day.
