My wife and I travel a lot and frequently use VRBO to find unique, well-looked after, welcoming properties. This is a wonderful apartment in an unbelievably beautiful location in the old town of Collioure, France. The balcony overlooks the beach. It is situated in a traffic-free zone of the old city. All amenities needed for a wonderful stay are accessible with a less than 5-minute walk to the supermarket, the tourist office, wine stores and mutliple excellent restaurants. The host Bernard Desclaux speaks English perfectly. He was there to greet us as arranged and gave us the keys. He gave us excellent advice about restaurants and where to find things that we needed. He also gave us very helpful advice about how to ride on the Little Yellow Train into the Pyrenees which is a "must-do" 1-day's adventure when in Collioure. The people in Collioure, especially shop and restaurant staff, are kind, polite, and very tolerant of our poor French - actually most spoke good English. The apartment also povides some fitness training because it is accessed by climbing two steep flights of stairs, which was no problem for us except when arriving with 3 very heavy cases. The facilities were clean, well-supplied and well maintained, including bottled water and a bottle of white wine to welcome us. The ambience of the apartment is that of a charming family home. Bernard told us that he was born there. If there was a 5-star category, we would award it to this apartment and host.
