Janie's Place is a classic Outer Banks style beach cottage located semi-oceanfront in "downtown" Kitty Hawk at milepost 3.5 on "the beach road". The beach is a 3-minute walk across the "beach road" with a walk-over just two doors north of the house and Lillian Street Beach access less than 50 yards south. Nothing but the two-lane road and the sand dune between you and the ocean - there are no oceanfront houses directly on the beach in this area of Kitty Hawk. Watch sunsets and sunrises from our crow's nest on top of the house.

We would love to have you as our guests and make your beach vacation memories relaxing at this family beach cottage!

Please read the entire listing including the rules before booking. Once you are booked, further details will come the day before check-in. The door is a coded lock. You will get a code the day of check-in, either at 4 pm check-in time or when the house is ready if you let us know you will arrive in the area earlier.

Yes! Linens are included. Beds will be made, and bath towel sets are provided based on the reserved number of guests. You bring your own beach towels.

Yes! We do have beach gear under the house in the laundry area. We don't keep an exact inventory, but there should be 4 or 5 chairs, an umbrella, some body boards, etc. (No specific item is guaranteed..) If you break or lose something you use, please replace it.

TVs are streaming only, and you must use your own accounts to stream but the Spectrum app is available on the TV for watching live cable.

Guests are responsible for taking out the trash carts to the road on designated days, and we do ask that you leave the space behind basically tidy and as you found it when you check out.You will be required to sign a lease agreement and give a copy of your photo ID as a part of the terms of booking.. Failure or refusal to do so will result in cancellation for a violation of house rules

Great views, east ocean access and very clean!

We loved our stay here. Very clean and a great central location to everything. We had everything we needed and a fantastic view of the ocean on the upper deck. The walk to the beach was right across the road and so easy. Two bathrooms made it convenient for our family. Communication with the host was great and we had absolutely no issues during our stay. Check in was a breeze and very organized. We would definitely book here again!

Awesome stay!

Everything about our stay was great from start to finish. The house was clean and included all essentials needed for the week. The location was perfect, beach access was just across the street. The hosts were also super helpful and great about communicating. Thankfully we had no issues, but they made sure to check in during our stay to ensure everything was going well. We communicated before booking as my group needed to do a weekday check-in, the host was wonderful and accommodating to our request. Our house also happened to be ready for check in early and the host notified me that I was able to enter sooner. I have no complaints and would definitely book Janie’s Place again.

Great OBX Stay

We chose this property because we like to explore and it was centrally located but just north enough to be out of the heavy traffic of Nags Head. It was nice to be able to head up 12 and check out Duck and Corolla. Found some fun entertainment and good dining up there as well. We felt like this property was a good value. Not ocean front per se, but if you cross the street and cross over the dunes (use the beach access stairs! don't damage the dunes by walking over them) you are right there. Ocean can be seen and heard from the house so you aren't missing too much. Cool "crows nest" on top of the house gives great views!

Spectacular Location for a Senior Trip

My wife and I took our daughters and my older daughter's friends for a "Senior Trip" after high school graduation. There were seven of us in total and the location was perfect for our trip. Its proximity to the beach and all the local attractions such as mini-golf and restaurants meant that the kids could go off exploring on their own while my wife and I did our own exploring including a highly recommended trip to the Corolla beaches with one of "Good Vibrations" dune buggies. The distribution of bedrooms meant that everyone had a bed and the two separate bathrooms meant that everyone was able to shower in a reasonable time. The property was immaculate, and the large screen television facilitated movie nights at the end of the day. The beach across the road had a convenient access point and was clean and sparsely populated throughout the day. I particularly appreciated the charcoal grill as we were able to grill enough to keep everyone happy and the proximity to several grocery stores combined with a well-equipped kitchen easily kept the teenagers happy. Parking easily accommodated our vehicles and with teenagers going through several outfits a day the full-sized washer and dryer were very much appreciated. Morning coffee watching the sunrise over the beach from the crow's nest was spectacular. In summary, the location, size, layout, and amenities associated with the property made it ideal for our vacation.

Kitty Hawks Best Kept Secret

We had an amazing time! We were thrilled that the bedding and towels were provided. This was the perfect place to stay with the beach only a 3 minute walk away! Janie’s place had all the amenities which felt like a home away from home 😊 Hoping to book again for next year! Thank you!

We loved this place

We stayed here with 6 adults and two children. It was a short walk to the uncrowded beach. The view from the top deck was wonderful. The house was clean and the kitchen well-stocked. The large kitchen table was great for board games. We were very comfortable in this space. We would stay here again.

Great location and views.

Cute house with a great location! We comfortably fit in eight guests and enjoyed the open living room/kitchen. The crows nest was a great spot yo hang out and enjoy views of the ocean. Lots of restaurants and shops nearby.
