Woman owned and CLEAN! Schedule much-needed family time to trout fish, hike trails or just chillax! The Deerling is a family-friendly cabin in the quiet hardwoods along a WV dirt road. Unique touches blend art and practicality with hand-crafted stair railing and a tiled walk-in shower in a secluded location to create a welcoming and peaceful place to unwind alone or with your family and friends. Rejuvenate and renew in the seclusion of the quiet woods of WV at The Deerling! $95 Pet fee required if furry friends are also coming.

We stayed at The Deerling for our 33rd anniversary weekend and absolutely loved it! The cabin was spotless, cozy, and well-kept — everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. The peaceful setting and beautiful surroundings made our stay truly memorable. We’re so glad we chose this place for our special weekend and would definitely return!

Beautiful, Clean, Secluded

My family had a lovely time at the property. The children (4 & 6) years old had a delightful sleeping space in the loft. Their grandmother said it was one of the most peaceful places she had ever stayed. All of the rooms were a tad bigger than I thought they would be and the layout of the cabin was very nicely done.

Everything was good besides there was a lot of dust and cob webs on the beds. The pond was not able to be accessed to feed the fish and there was no fish in it. The pond smelled awful so every time we went outside it smelled horrible.

You spend so much time picking a vacation spot for your family. It has to be affordable, clean, well taken care of and as described. We’ve been let down more times than I’d like to admit.We traveled in two cars and because my wife and I had to stop for a grocery pickup, my daughter, son and granddaughter went ahead to the rental and I was so relieved when I got a text “IT IS SO CUTE!”.A little later when we arrived with the groceries I was so happy when I seen them come out on the porch smiling and telling us we had to come inside to see it before unloading.How nice. It actually wasn’t as the photos showed…. It was much nicer! How often does that happen???Because of a family issue back home we weren’t able to stay the entire week, but communication with the owners was perfect. Kind, courteous, and most of all understanding.I’m into photography and wish I had photos to share that related to the rental more but because we had to leave I never got the chance.This is a gem folks. If you need to shut down a little and get back to what’s important, this is an incredible place to do it.

Great cabin, definitely remote. So if you just want a place to stay and do absolutely nothing but enjoy the sound of nature, this place is it. Would definitely book again.

This cabin is off the path that we normally take! It is secluded and beautiful! My children absolutely loved it there! Even rainy and cold we had a great time! It is very clean and the owners are the most awesome people! A must have for people wishing to take a step back and relax! My children ran around the huge property and made all the noise they wanted while laughing and giggling!

The Deerling is the best place and most fun I’ve ever had. Owner was great and super friendly, place was clean, plenty of room, quiet and relaxing. Couldn’t ask for a better place to stay.

Comfortable cabin, peaceful location

This cozy cabin made for an excellent home base during a recent family girls’ trip to the Helvetia and Pickens areas. The large bathroom adequately accommodated three women and was stocked with plenty of towels. Beds were comfortable and dressed with soft linens. We thoroughly enjoyed the cabin’s peaceful and secluded setting, accessed by an easily navigable drive. I appreciated the value of this rental along with the owner’s excellent communication and would not hesitate to stay here again.

Secluded, Peaceful and Gorgeous

We were spending a few days attending a local festival and by God’s Grace found this gorgeous property. Extremely clean, rustic decor, very comfortable. Fun games, good wifi, and we had a blast with Deer Pong. Enjoy the wildlife which visits, including deer and a very inquisitive hummingbird! Cows watch you from the lower pasture. I would recommend for anyone looking for secluded peace! Bring food. Nearest grocery is a hike!

Our stay was wonderful. No phonecalls could come in or out but we enjoyed that extra quiet. The WiFi helped with maps and boredom. The Coe county store down the road was really nice. Great food and prices without having to go too far. We did Fasnacht this year and this place was close by which helped greatly! The steep incline to get to the cabin shocked us at first but we soon mastered it.

Middle of nowhere

Very much in the middle of nowhere. Long drive to everywhere. Did not have internet the first couple of days because we were emailed the wrong password. Once we got that straightened out, the internet worked great.

I inherited Big Run Respite’s land, and it is important to me to be able to me to carry on our family’s legacy of loving and living a simple life in the woods, so that's why we built The Deerling- to share the simple life off the beaten path.

Por qué escogió este alojamiento

Several locations were considered as the first build site, but we settled here on this knoll in the ferns and ground pine. When I initiated our goal by sawing down the first tree, I knew this was the perfect location to find peace and rest for restoration.

Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial

We built this cabin so guests could enjoy its peace and solitude. We ran saw mills to saw the trees (we cleared for the landing) into lumber, so this structure is solid!
It is so quiet in this location, and near a grove of majestic hemlock pines (my own source of restoration).
