Hummingbird Oceanside Suites: Mt Strachan Suite

OCEANFRONT & MOUNTAIN VIEWS w/ HOT TUB & WOOD BARREL SAUNA

Mount Strachan Suite - this mountain view room has windows that provide sweeping views of Mount Strachan & the Howe Sound. The suite is attached to the house, but has its own exterior entrance, king bed, bathroom with rain shower, flat screen TV & kitchenette. Sleeps 2 people.

There’s no better place to enjoy a morning coffee or an evening glass of wine to soak in the views! We’re often frequented by eagles, deer & if you're lucky whales!

Situated in Dorman Bay, our waterfront property is a fabulous location with incredible and expansive views to the North, East and South.

We’re only a 5 minute drive from Snug Cove (ferry, restaurants, shops), 15 minute walk to Dorman Point, and 10 minute walk to September Morn Beach.

We have two dwellings on the property: the main house and the cabin.

The main house accommodates 4 private suites (Cypress Mountain Suite, Mount Strachan Suite, St. Mark’s Summit Suite, and David Peak Suite). The suites range between 200 sq.ft to 250 sq.ft. Each suite has its own private exterior entrance, king/queen bed, private bathroom with rain shower, heated bathroom floor & heated towel rack, flat screen TV, dining area, and kitchenette (mini fridge, microwave, toaster, Keurig coffee machine, kettle, dishes & utensils). Due to our business license, we're not allowed to provide a hot plate/stove in our suites. The suites have access to three outdoor lounge areas, a shared hot tub, a shared wood barrel sauna, outdoor shower, a lawn games field with BBQ, a staircase to the ocean, and a communal fire pit area. All suites have access to high speed wi-fi and Netflix.

Please note:
1. No children under 12 years old in our suites, but are welcome in our modern cabin.
2. No pets allowed on our property.
3. No smoking anywhere on our property.
4. The suites are private rooms inside our main house and you can occasionally hear us upstairs as well as other guests in the rooms beside, so please be mindful and respectful of that.
5. Our driveway is very steep and cemented all the way down. There is one parking spot per suite down at the main house, but if you prefer, we have a gravel parking pad at the road, 100m past our driveway entrance.
*During the winter season, we recommend parking at the road if the driveway or the conditions during your stay are icy and/or covered in snow.*

About our other accommodation and shared spaces:

The cabin is 1,000 sq.ft. with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, living room with sofa bed, full kitchen, large patio, and private hot tub. Sleeps 4 adults and 2 kids.

The cabin has a separate listing (search Hummingbird Oceanside Suites: The Modern Cabin).

There is a wood barrel sauna and outdoor shower down by the main house, which is shared between all the property guests.

The property offers a lawn games field (cornhole, bocce, and spike ball) with a communal BBQ above the main house parking lot for all guests to use and enjoy.

There is access to the ocean (no beach) using our wooden stairs down by the main house. Please use caution and use at your own risk. You can use the stairs between sunrise and sunset. If you plan on going swimming, the currents are very strong in our bay, so we recommend using life jackets.

There is a communal fire pit area above the lawn games field. This contained fire pit can be used by all property guests and each guest must provide their own firewood, kindling and lighter. You can bring your own wood or the General Store in Snug Cove sells firewood bundles. Use at your own risk, never leave your fire unattended, put out your fire when finished, and no fires during fire ban season.

Security Disclosure - Since we have 5 rentals on our property, we have four security cameras - all outdoors. One faces our driveway entrance gate, one faces down the driveway and the lawn games field, one faces our main house parking area, and one faces the oceanside shared lounge areas. They will be on during your stay.

Our family lives in the main house year-round (on the upper floor) and we look forward to meeting you!

Nice weekend getaway

Nice little suit. The bed was very comfortable. Great views with nice amenities - particularlyenjoyed the sauna. Host stayed in touch and was very accommodating after an island wide power outage following a large storm.

A beautiful gem!

This was a magical place to stay while on Bowen Island. Everything was perfect, and to top it off, we saw a humpback whale our first morning. I highly recommend waking up early to catch the sunrise and maybe some views of wildlife!

Incredible Property

My wife and I had a short weekend getaway from the mainland and this was the perfect place to stay. There were amazing views from every unit, well-maintained hot tub/sauna and the firepit was a great way to close out the final night. We will be booking the cabin with friends on our next visit 100%.

Girls weekend

This was the perfect place to stay for a quick getaway. Absolutely stunning view. We walked do to the water and it was so peaceful to just sit on the rocks. Super close to the ferry and all the things in town. The hot tub was perfect. The bed was comfortable. The owners were so nice and we were greeted with the sweet quester of a hand written note and wine.

Amazing views

Adorable suite with stunning views! Room was very clean and it was a great place to come back to at the end of the day. Check out the local restaurants as this suite has a microwave/fridge/ Keurig and tea kettle. No stove, which was perfect for me. Outside seating areas to watch sunset were perfect. Highly recommend if peace and quiet is your desire.

Anniversary getaway

Million dollar views! We even saw some humpback whales in the bay on our last morning! Property is lovely, clean. Beautifully landscaped and decorated. The only complaint was the construction noise from the property next door, but not the owners fault. Thankfully they stopped working in the afternoon so a good portion of the day was peaceful.

Piece of paradise

Cute little rental with amazing views. Very clean with amazing host. My only thing was it said kitchenette so I assumed there would be something to cook eggs on in the morning and the coffee maker was a keurig I brought regualr coffee and filters. Melissa and Dominic were able to give us some great options for breakfast on the island so im kind of glad i couldnt cook :)

Exceptional!

I loved my stay at Hummingbird Oceanside Suites. Melissa and Dominic were excellent hosts, checking in to make sure I was enjoying myself. I stayed in the Stachan suite. It had an incredible view, as advertised. The bed was super comfortable and I really appreciated the heated towel rack in the bathroom. I also spent quite a bit of time sitting on the chairs outside, or wandering down the stairs to the water's edge. I saw seals, eagles and Canada Geese, and it was fun watching the ferry go by on its way to Nanaimo. The location was perfect. I did not have a car and was pleased with the short 20 min walk the ferry and Snug Harbour. I am already dreaming about booking there again next year.

Perfect weekend getaway

This is a perfect choice if you are looking for a weekend getaway to Bowen Island. High recommend, look no further. Melissa and Dominic have an outstanding new property with breathtaking views. The pictures are exactly what you are going to expect. Melissa does a great job communicating with you before and during your stay. Everything you have questions about or want to know about things to do during your stay is covered in a binder. There are a total of 4 units and one cabin on the property, so if you are looking for seclusion, just be aware of that. Very thing is marked well on the property, and it was easy to enjoy our time on the property even though we weren’t alone. We will definitely we back to explore Bowen Island again, and plan to book this breaktaking stay once again.

We fell in love with this property and Bowen Island in the summer of 2020 and then subsequently purchased the bare land lot in November 2020. Shortly after in March 2021, we started building the main house and the cabin simultaneously. In December 2021, my husband and I were able to move into the main house, and in February/March 2022 we slowly opened up the suites for guests. The cabin was ready by June 2022.
