¡Bienvenido a Jubilee! Reviewer Comments: Let me first disclose this review is written through the tainted lens of someone arriving at a house with a few thousand bugs in it: most dead, but many very much alive.The location of Jubilee in terms of the view from the deck was beautiful, however, the proximity to everything else (town, stores, etc.) was too far for my liking (~50 min drive).The aesthetic of the house is also lovely - it looks like a mountain cabin. However, furniture could use replacing/updating as chairs and couches are stained, and the beds and linen feel a good 50 years old. In spite of this, the leasing agents were very helpful in responding to our concerns around bugs, etc.

Beautiful Sunrises

Very interesting home with Trophy Wildlife mounted on walls and other related items throughout. Family enjoyed the hot tub, shooting pool and playing ping pong. My 3 year old grandson was in total awe of the entire home and location. The trip in and of itself was really for him to experience snow, snow tubing and the mountains in general. Grandfather Mountain did not disappoint….lol.

Beautiful location/Home in need of upgrades

Our family stayed over New Years and had a lovely time together. Views from the deck are stunning. The property manager was responsive-on New Year's day even-when we needed something that was supposed to be supplied but was missing. The location is 5-star but we felt the home was 3-star. When first built we imagine this home was a stunner, but years as a rental has left it in need of upgrading - from the downstairs and bedrooms' original carpets, to the scratched cookware, to the torn and battered ping pong net, table, paddles, old games. The facades of kitchen cabinets were sticky and several refrigerator drawers were broken. My husband brought our hot tub chlorine test from home, and found that the chlorine level of the hot tub was almost at zero, so we did not use it. I have not left a negative Vrbo review before, but felt it important to distinguish what a true, 5-star rental would be, in our opinion.

However, we had a great time. We have rented at Leatherwood multiple times. We did have an issue or two with the cleanliness and disrepair of this cabin. Dirty dishes right out of the cabinets were an inconvenience and no dishwasher detergent made it worse. Bathroom floors were dirty as well. At least three of us ended up bloodied by the screen door leading to the deck. Deck railing was also shaky in some spots. It definitely needs immediate attention. We ran out of propane while cooking our first pack of hot dogs...first night. I called check in the next day & propane was delivered within minutes. We had a great time despite a few bumps.

Great house, isolated location

Overall, the house is better than most vacation rentals, and you get a feel from The personal items that a living family has enjoyed it for generations. After a great stay in geographically close Banner Elk without much advanced planning, we booked this house for the peaceful location and view for a workweek getaway. In checking distances to some things I was interested in doing/seeing, I didn’t hit the directions button on Waze, and then found once we were there (a) 19-25 mile straight line distance turned into 2 hour plus round trip drives part of which is just getting down the mountain from the beautiful location and (b) the most direct route towards Banner Elk goes through a community that has built a residents’ only gate blocking the return trip. There is a scenic hiking/riding trail in the resort, but getting to most of the top rated hiking & rafting attractions near Boone or along the Blue Ridge Parkway that are geographically close is too long. The horses for trail rides have a max rider weight of 220, so may not work for everyone. We loved the hot tub, pool table, ping pong, ladder ball, horse shoes, puzzles —best in house/yard activities I’ve ever seen at a rental—and the spectacular view from the deck and living room. For bigger guys, the master memory foam bed was very comfortable the first night, but I sank in deeper and deeper each night and left with a sore back. Might be time for a new mattress. The master closet is locked for owners belongings, and there is just an over the door coat hanger holder that is coming loose to hang up clothes in the master. The biggest complaint is the dishwasher. It seems to have the wrong bottom dish drawer with only 2 rows of wheels. We have had 2 similar Bosch washers with 4 sets of wheels. With this one, there are gaps to the door wheel track and in the middle of the washer, and one end or the other drops in and gets stuck. You have to reach inside the washer and lift the fully loaded drawer (and the plates are heavy) to get the drawer in or out for loading and unloading.

About half of the lights needed replacement bulbs but we decided to just live with it while there. A bathroom faucet handle was not operational $ the master bathtub was dirty but property mgmt fixed it immediately. The screened porch looked like it was not cleaned up between renters. I simply did it myself. The toaster oven needed cleaning on the inside. Simple stuff that just needs to be attended to. It was great having a small hiking trail on the property.

Amazing views

My wife and I took or two daughters 21 and 17 to join up with our 25 year old daughter, she lives in Greensboro for a 4 night stay and had a great time. The weather wasn't the best but staying at the house for a couple days when the weather was ify, was very enjoyable

Very Nice Winter Mountain Cabin

My husband and I stayed at Jubilee over Valentine’s / Presidents’ Day weekend and had a lovely time. It was a somewhat last minute booking, since the cabin near Asheville that we’d originally booked had needed a new well dug. But we were very happy to return to the Leatherwood Mountains, since it's usually a safe bet in the winter. Having well paved roads that are promptly plowed, and being at a lower elevation than Boone is always reassuring when there could be snow. Jubilee’s driveway was paved for all but the last 30-40 feet, and the gravel portion was large enough for multiple cars to park, or to turn around, and perfectly drivable in a sedan (contrary to what a previous reviewer stated). The cabin was great, with a well stocked kitchen, lots of available firewood for the fireplace, and lots of nice tucked away seating areas to curl up with a book. All light switches were marked, so we never had to guess. We enjoyed playing ping pong and pool, and really appreciated that the hot tub was under the deck, beneath the screened porch, so while it rained much of the weekend, we were able to spend time in the hot tub without getting rained on. The owners have done a great job of utilizing their property, with the onsite hiking trail (I recommend taking the path from where the driveway turns to gravel and walking it clockwise), and the rope swing was a fun surprise at the end. If it hadn’t been so foggy, I’m sure the sunset would have been wonderful from the overlook deck off the hiking trail. There are also some nearby hiking trails, as part of the 75 miles of private trails within Leatherwood Mountains. We had downloaded the Avenza maps app (see details on the Leatherwood Mountains website) which had great GPS for finding our way. We did a nice loop with just a couple of moderately steep portions, right from the cabin (walking up Elk Ridge Road, then taking Silverado and Deer Run trails back down the mountain to Jubilee). Overall, we really enjoyed our long weekend at this cabin, and would love to return!

Nice log cabin with a View

The cabin has a great break taking views as shown in the pictures but a few things to note that will be helpful for other families that plan to visit the cabin during Christmas time. 1. It gets darker earlier so plan to get to the cabin before sunset. The drive to the cabin from the main road is very narrow and is gravel only. I’m sure minivans would have tough time getting through that road, we had GMC Yukon so wasn’t a problem for us. 2. The heater in the basement floor wasn’t functioning. We complained to the property manager twice during our stay but nothing was done. The kids had to sleep in the master bedroom with us on the floor in sleeping bags. This was unacceptable. 3. The brown backed beetle all over in the master bathroom. On the first night, those bugs flew into the master bedroom where the kids were sleeping on the floor in sleeping bags. We complained about that also and were told that this was normal and the bugs are harmless and won’t do a thing. Bottom line is I don’t want any kind of bugs crawling on me or my family regardless of whether they are harmless or not. Our stay would have been more enjoyable if we didn’t have to deal with those things.

The unit could stand a whole house cleaning as we found silverware that was not clean along with pots and pans. The house really had a problem with stink bugs , not that they bite but they were flying about, in the sinks and showers. We made it a point to keep the doors closed to help keep them out to no avail. Cleaning crew need to clean behind and around everything, especially behind the doors. The maintenance staff was very helpful on both occasions that we called them. Overall I would rate experience an 8 out of 10 and we would recommend and rent this house again. Thanks for allowing me to give you some input.

A Perfect Middle-of-Nowhere Get Away!

This trip was exactly what we needed. The house is exactly as pictured! Beautiful views, great kitchen, and gorgeous fireplace. The beds were comfy and the house was spacious. The kids loved the downstairs game room and we enjoyed our coffee on the deck every morning. We enjoyed live music and great food at the restaurant on Friday night and we all loved the horseback riding excursion. Keep in mind that this house is really 30-40 minutes from town. Highly suggest bringing all of our groceries with you. That's what we did and we never had to worry. If you are looking for a beautiful mountain getaway away from it all, this house is perfection!

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was more than happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Excellent property! House was equipped with everything we needed, especially in the kitchen. Loved the fireplace. Great WiFi . Really liked that each bedroom had a private bathroom. Beautiful views.

Exactly what we wanted

House is in perfect condition and the location was great. The views are amazing and it was easy to get to.
