We are located across the highway from the lake shore but you can still hear waves rolling onto the beach as well as the wolves howling their night song...and sometimes during the day as well. Due to severe rain and wind storms last summer we are still in the process of working on grounds, including driveway and better views of the lake. In the meanwhile it is a wonderful little cabin to enjoy.

Judge Magney State Park and Naniboujou Lodge are just down the road. If you bring bikes you can ride the under 3 miles down the road to it and hike the awe inspiring trail to Devil's Kettle!
Just a short 20 min drive north is American Falls, a boardwalk in to a gorgeous falls on the Pigeon River that is beautiful at all seasons (and is a great Walleye fishing river downstream).
We are 17.3 miles north of Grand Marais so just a 15-20 minute drive south and you are there and can enjoy all the GM has to offer. Most weekends in the summer there is something going that is a fun filled day. Then you can return to the natural woods of the area for rest and relaxation.
Our property connects to a 200 acre parcel of woodland that is trust land so you can hike or hunt that area right from the bunkhouse. There are no trails or roads in that 200 acres.
Between our bunkhouse and GM there are beaches where you can enjoy the shore, rock hunt, read a book or just take in the calm or lapping waves. We invite you to come and relax for awhile.

Cabin was clean and exactly as listed. Can’t wait to see what it’ll be like once they’ve got everything all finished.

Great place to stay! Very happy with the bunkhouse and the amenities. The host was VERY communicative about the property and what to expect which was great for us. We would happily stay again. No running water (yet, they might in the future), but we knew that going in and it wasn’t an issue for us at all. Close to grand marais and the Canadian border.

The cabin is very clean and well put together. It's in a great location between Grand Marais and Grand Portage, very secluded off the main highway, giving it an off the grid experience that I was looking for, the host was very communicative and responds very quickly if you have any questions, if you're looking for a good location with little/low light pollution to star gaze this is an amazing location to do so. Overall just a great experience for my wife and I.

It was a nice place. It was remote, but there is a property close by. Dish soap and towels would have made cleaning easier.

So sorry for the missing dish soap! Not sure if someone used it all or mistakenly took it. If you had let us know you could have retrieved one from main cabin. There are dish towels in drawers of the grey cabinet which is right there in the main room as well as in the blue tub under counter. If you had just popped me a text, which I encourage everyone to do at any time, we could have solved that one very quickly. I did not receive any message about this.

The cabin was clean, sunny and bright with comfortable beds. Our host, Julie, was responsive and helpful with any questions we asked. She advised us well with getting to the cabin during daylight hours as the walk up to the cabin would have been difficult navigating for the first time at night through the woods. The cabin was about a 20 minute drive to Grand Marais, near great hiking trails and views of Lake Superior. We had a wonderful stay and really enjoyed the cabin!

Nice cabin, but several issues to be aware ofThe cabin is pleasant and you can see the effort that went into it. However, a few basics were missing when we arrived in the late afternoon/evening after a few hours’ drive. The kitchen lacked essentials (e.g., dishwashing supplies), and the two 5-gallon water containers inside were essentially empty. Outside there were only two filled containers, plus a similar amount set aside for dishwashing/showering only. The host was responsive and, for the remaining days, directed us to pick up another container from their other cabin—but I still had to haul and refill water myself every day.We often tent-camp with kids and are comfortable with “basic,” but this amount of water felt below basic if you plan to cook even simple meals.Checkout instructions were also more demanding than typical. For example, guests are expected to remove ash from the electric toilet during their stay and at checkout—this isn’t standard in our experience. These expectations, along with the water situation, should be made clear at the time of booking.

So sorry for missing dish soap and limited drinking water supply. This was an unusual circumstance as the renters who left prior to your visit had used far more water than anyone in the past. With all our previous renters, we found they used no more than one 5 gallon container per day and most less for drinking/cooking. In the future we will need to inform people further that water is not without limit but that we allow for one 5 gallon container per day for drinking/cooking. The large white tank is for wash water. I don't know that you used it. My apologizes for the missing dish soap. The dish soap did disappear - it was at the sink prior to your arrival but it may have been overlooked if someone used it up the last day or mistakenly took it. We fixed that by you taking one from the other cabin. I was not made aware of any other dish washing essentials that were not there. As for the incinerating toilet, my close down instructions to you were that you did not have to do anything with the ash cauldron as you were there only 3 days nor has anyone else over the summer for that duration so I don't understand you complaining when you had to do nothing? For a longer stay, then it would need to be emptied which simply means unhooking the lower front panel, clicking the latch to pull pan out and dumping in covered pail outside then returning it to its place. It is an incinerating toilet which means everything is burned to an ash so one cannot let it overflow or it can burn out the coil, disabling the toilet. Its no different than emptying an ash tray or fire pit ash. It is totally burnt and clean to handle the cauldron when cool. It beats trying to clean up a water based toilet or using an "outhouse" by a very long way as it stays very clean.
