Peaceful and relaxing vacation

The property on Lake Michigan was exactly what I expected from the online photos. It was a beautiful place to relax on the beach and enjoy the sunshine.The bonfire pit was a great addition for us to enjoy. The cottage was clean and gave a perfect amount of space for the size of my family. We are definitely going to come back next summer!

Rest, Relax and Rewind

Had a very relaxing and enjoyable time in this cozy cottage. Very clean with comfortable beds. Lots of wildlife- deer, turkeys, foxes and more... The beautiful sunrises and sunsets on Lake Michigan were wonderful (we happened to be there during a full moon-amazing!). Enjoyed the local wineries and farmers markets. The owners were very helpful. We would definitely return and would recommend this to our friends and family.

Cute cottage

We had a great time! Cottage was just right for the two of us. It was our anniversary and the bottle of Door County cherry wine was a nice touch. And it was dry!!! Beach is lovely. We had a fire on a clear night with a full moon. We found the roasting sticks for the S'Mores!! Would stay again. Thanks!

Beach house

The beach was amazing! But…the water in the house smelled like rotten eggs, so bad I couldn’t take a shower. The futon downstairs was very uncomfortable with metal pieces poking me and deep holes between cushions. Also listed in amenities was a hot tub.which wasn’t there. False advertising!

Hello Sandy, Sorry for the unpleasant odor! I wish you would have let us know at the beginning of the stay. It was the anodizing rod in the hot water heatr. Smells awful but does not affect the water quality. It is a simple fix we got repaired as soon as we found out. Sorry it was during your stay. We will always address problems when we know. Hope you enjoyed Door County.

Girls getaway

The view is amazing! The accommodations could use a little bit of work. The water is an issue. It does smell awful and you cannot drink it. The listing is misleading. It states there is a spa tub and there is not. With a little bit of effort this could be an amazing place. Our stay way good overall. I just wouldn’t stay here again.

Hello Janet, Thank you for the information. The odor was caused by the anodizing rod in the hot water heater. It is an easy replacement and we have completed it. I wish we had know while you were there so we could have fixed it right away. The odor does not affect the quality of the water. I am sorry for the confusion about the spa. I have researched it, I even called VRBO however I was unable to locate it on the listing. We have not had a Spa since we opened Lake Front Cottages and no other inquiries. I am truly sorry the confusion was disappointing. Again, thank you for your feedback and hope you were able to enjoy the Lake and Door County. Best regards

Paying for the beach.

The floor was full of sand when we arrived. No a/c so it was hot. TV and dvd didn't work. Water smelled terrible and there was barely room for 2 to sit. Dogs were welcome but the 3 cabins were very close so dogs were all over. Parking for one car only. Pay for a hotel and drive to the Land Trust beach.

Hello Chad I wish you would have let us know about the issues while you were there. I would have sent the cleaning crew and taken care of the odor. It was a simple fix, replacement of the anodizing rod in the hot water heater. We could have it done without ever entering the cottage. Perhaps one of larger cottages would have been a better match. We don't like to disappoint. Thank you for the feedback. Hope you will give us another try.

We got mushrooms.

Overall our stay was nice but the placed smelled very musty. They must have known it was a problem because the windows were open when we checked in and it was a cold day. As we did our first walk through we found a mushroom growing in our bathroom. Not exactly the kind of roommate we expected. The bathroom was in need up some cleaning and updating. Great location very quiet but the cabin could use some help. We didn’t spend much time here because of the smell.

Great Location and Beautiful Beach

The location is fantastic with a beach that is one of the nicest I’ve ever encountered. The neighbors were friendly and everyone we spoke with agreed, this location is a hidden gem. The property itself however is a different story. The well water is unusually foul and a softner addition would be strongly encouraged. The cottage, unlike the photos is not a stand alone property, it is one of 3 on the same lot in close proximity. The building is cute, but in need of repairs. The shower is not supported adequately and the kitchen floor is not level, which prohibits the front door from shutting completely. The property has potential if updated and as mentioned, the beach is a thing of beauty. Kay is an accessible and patient host that exercised good communication.

Wasn’t what we expected

The biggest turn off on this VRBO, is the horrible water smell. The futon couch in living room is very uncomfortable. The floor in bathroom and kitchen has a soft and sagging floor. Shower floor dips. It’s very outdated and quite run down. Didn’t realize there were no sheets or towels, so had to make a quick Target run. Also, there was nothing mentioned about two other homes being in such close proximity. The only positive is the location. Absolutely a beautiful view of the lake. Not worth the money, however. It definitely needs a major remodel.

Lovely sunny cottage

The sunny, cheerful cottage is on a quiet, tree-lined road just steps from a long sandy beach. Although this was our first stay at this property, my family has been vacationing on this beach for nearly 30 years. It's the most relaxing place in Door County! I would add a few minor "heads-up" for future guests: 1) the water has a strong sulfur odor. It's safe to drink, but I'd advise bringing bottled water. 2) The sleeping arrangements can be awkward for more than two adults. The double futon (comfortable) and king bed (very comfortable) are in the loft together, so no privacy if couples are vacationing together. My adult daughter and 5-year-old granddaughter slept one night on the fold- down sofa in living room, and found it very uncomfortable. It would probably be fine for one or two kids, but not for an adult. 3) The 3 cottages on the property are very close to one another. During our stay, a family with 4 large dogs occupied one of the other cottages. Fortunately the dogs were well-behaved, but our quiet beach vacation could have been ruined if they had been noisy or aggressive. Perhaps limiting the number of dogs that guests are allowed to bring to will help avoid potential unpleasantness. But aside from these few issues, our stay was very enjoyable and I would consider renting this cottage again.

The rental is so close to the beautiful lake with a gorgeous beach.

Terrific time. Booked for next year already. Only drawback is bed upstairs and bath downstairs. Oh and the hot water has sulfur smell. But bring water for drinking and enjoy!!! Outdoors are super!!!

Not what I expected for the weeklycost

The property didn’t have air conditioning. I didn’t know this at the time of making my selection. I also didn’t know that the house had well water as the water source. the rental property needs serious upgraded. The carpet in the living area room area seemed dirty enough not to walk on in bare feet. There were stains on the carpet upstairs as well. On day, while watching tv, by the way was really small, the house filled with nats. So much so that we spent hours killing them with a flyswatter. We also had to spray in scent spray to try to help with the insects. The fumes filled the room rapidly and made it hard to breath. In fact, I started to feel sick from the fumes. The screens in a couple rooms were ajar and or the frames was bent which allowed the nats to fill the. Entire rental property. The front door screen had gaps which also allowed indents to enter the property. In order to stay at the property, we had to keep all the windows closed, which was unpleasant due to the heat from the outside temperatures. I tried to locate another place to stay with no prevail. It was to stick it out or go home at this point. Beside all this, there was no TV service in the bedroom, the TV would only get channel 73, which was the channel to get satellite tv, however, there was no box to get the satellite to come on. I was able to contact the property owner via your app, however, her solution was to send someone the next day which only brought us another can of insect spray. I showed the lady the problems that Needed to be addressed to resolve the issue in which she said she would contact the owner Overall, the stay was unpleasant to say the least. I spent a lot of money for a property that didn’t fulfill my expectations. I was very disappointed with this property, and will think twice before using VBRO in the future, unless I fully understand what to expect on the property listing.

Great beach access, close neighbors

This was a beautiful stretch of Lake Michigan. In the pictures the cottage appears to stand alone. There are 2 other houses within 15 feet that are also rented out. If they are playing music, you are going to hear it.

Relaxation

Overall, the little cottage was as expected. It was quiet and just the right size for my husand and me. We had our small dachsund with us so it was nice to have an abode that would allow pets. The beach was wonderful and right out the door. It was close to the towns and in a location that was accessible to everything we wanted to see.

Great little cottage

We did not realize that there were three cottages on the property, but it wasn’t an issue for us we bought our dog it was wonderful having the beach right there to go and take long walks. Cottage was very comfortable and clean our only real issue was the smell of the water in the cottage so we brought our own drinking water with and it wasn’t an issue. All in all it would come back and stay again it’s the perfect little spot in door County

Fantastic location! Properties leave little to be desired.

I rented two of the properties located next door to one another for a large family gathering. We had a fantastic time - the location is amazing. It's across a quiet street, just a hop, skip and a jump away from a beach, beach fire pit and lake! The properties themselves are not well maintained. I'm not a super picky person - I can overlook cobwebs and dust. However, broken screens that let in mosquitos, leaking (puddle) toilets that create a slipping hazard, mold in bathrooms, leaking fridge and no window air conditioning units is a bit of a let down. I'm also not a fan of having to provide all the linens for the stay. Overall, great family getaway if the weather allows you to spend the majority of time on the beach/lake!

Quaint & Cozy

The rental process was easy. The cottage was clean. The location directly across from the lake & a lovely beach was perfect. We enjoyed privacy, although as others have mentioned there are three cottages on the property & they are all within several yards of each other. Nobody else was staying in them while we were there, but I can imagine that might get crowded. WiFi allowed us to use our electronics just fine. The drive to ‘town’ was a quick 5-7 min drive, very convenient. Our only major concern was the sulfur scent of the well water. That made showering & dishes very unpleasant. We had brought a couple gallons of water, so we used that for cooking & drinking. Otherwise, we would definitely stay again. Being able to have our pup with us was most of the fun too - thank you for being pet-friendly! He had the best time at the lake.

Not private, multiple properties on site

My biggest issue is that it is not noted in this listing anywhere, that this property is one of three on a very small lot. One house was quite and the other was NOT. The larger house holds up to 16 people and it was full. There was always between 7 and 11 children present roaming the property. The small beach was consistently packed and not largeenough for three rentals. My family left and drove to another beach for space and peace. I could not sit quietly in chairs in the yard as the neighboring children used it for play. I get kids need to play. I also love children. But dont advertise this as seemingly remote and peaceful. It is not. You are at the mercy of what rents on either side of you. Water in the home absolutely REEKS of rotten eggs. Yard was never mowed, grass was very tall. Firepit was filled to the brim wuth sand. Chairs broken and taped back together on the beach. So glad to be going home.

Not clean

It wasn’t vacuumed. The shower wasn’t washed since there was a bar of soap residue and a razor cover left in shower. Toilet felt like it was going to fall through the floor and same with the shower. The shower head is broke and had no water pressure. Fridge was dirty. Paid almost $1,000 and we had to bring all bedding, towels, etc but it’s alright to use their couch and dressers and plates…..

We enjoyed the property. It is very old with uneven floors. Bathroom needs work, could not get the t.v. to work and needs a new coffee pot. The views are amazing and the beds upstairs were comfortable.

Lack of Communication and in need of Repairs

The property is in a great location and was very clean. However, before our stay I contacted the owner twice and did not receive a reply regarding either message. The home itself is in need of repair. The shower floor is rotting out, the carpet is thin and carpet tacks can be felt when walking on the stairs. On our last night we got locked out of the property. We called the owner (there is no local property management). She did not call back until the following day. We had to break into the property by removing a screen. Very disappointing!
