Bonjour et bienvenue à Maison Winona — on parle français (and a bit of maximalist).
I’m a Chicago-born designer with a fondness for the Beaux-Arts aesthetic. My husband, Erick, is a French chef with serious culinary chops and a lifelong devotion to long dinners, good bread, and better butter. Together, we’ve transformed this 1908 Prairie School greystone — a preserved beauty by architect Frederick Schock — into an immersive, layered space where history flirts with hospitality.
Whether you’re here to recharge, explore, or simply stay somewhere with a little more personality, we’re so happy to welcome you. Maison Winona isn’t just a place to stay — it’s an experience. Bienvenue chez nous.

Por qué escogió este alojamiento
Chicago’s most walkable stretch of food, music, and waterfront magic.
Welcome to Andersonville — named the second-coolest neighborhood in the world by Time Out — where historic architecture, indie energy, and unapologetic flavor all collide.
Maison Winona is tucked right in the middle of it all: a 12-minute stroll to Lake Michigan and just 10 minutes to iconic music venues like the Aragon Ballroom, Riviera Theatre, and the legendary Green Mill jazz club. The Chicago Magic Lounge is also a quick 10-minute walk, mixing cocktails and sleight-of-hand in a stunning Art Deco speakeasy that’s pure Chicago enchantment.
This is a neighborhood built for exploring. Start with a croissant at Lost Larson or a browse through vintage shops on Clark. For dinner, take your pick: James Beard Award-winning duck at Sun Wah BBQ, Michelin-starred taco omakase at Cariño, or a speakeasy-style burger at The Good Wolf. Candlelit pastas at Bar Roma? Southern brunch at Big Jones? Yes and yes.
Hopleaf — voted the #1 beer bar in the world — is just blocks away, and nearby breweries like Half Acre, Dovetail, and Spiteful offer a self-guided tasting crawl for beer lovers.
Andersonville is also home to one of Chicago’s most vibrant LGBTQIA+ communities. From inclusive bars like SoFo Tap and Nobody’s Darling to beach days at Hollywood Beach, joy and welcome are everywhere.
Need a break from the buzz? Foster Beach offers quiet shoreline and long walks. Hollywood Beach brings the energy with rainbow flags and lobster nachos at Aura. Red Line access makes exploring the rest of the city easy — but with all this at your doorstep, you may never want to leave.

Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial
A rare architectural gem designed by Frederick Schock in 1908, this home was built for Lyman A. Budlong of the Budlong Pickle empire. Schock—a notable Chicago architect born to French immigrants and best known for four Victorian-style homes in the Austin neighborhood—was a contemporary of Louis Sullivan and Frank Lloyd Wright. Some historians claim that Wright copied Schock when he built his first residence in Oak Park in 1899. Scandalous? Peut-être. Delightfully plausible? Absolument! This greystone is one of Schock’s rare Prairie School designs, and we feel truly honored to steward and share it as Maison Winona.
Our home is not a museum, but a lived-in love letter to design history. The interiors blend authentic Arts & Crafts elements—like William Morris, Cole & Son, & House of Hackney wallpaper—with bold nods to Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Victorian maximalism, and hints of mid-century and contemporary revivals of those styles. The vibe is infused with a touch of whimsy and a wink of kitsch—the kind that suggests we take beauty seriously, but not ourselves. We especially enjoy hosting fellow architecture and design enthusiasts—but truly, this home is for anyone who appreciates comfort, character, and a bit of story in their surround
