Perfect Black Mountain Stay

Sparrow was just the spot to enjoy all that Black Mountain had to offer- great restaurants, hiking, fishing and time in town.

Fun Mountain Weekend!

We enjoyed our time here! The house was in a great location, and the neighborhood is very nice. I will say the drive way is extremely steep, so if you don’t have an SUV or car with 4WD and some clearance it will be difficult to get in and out.

Would Buy the cottage if I could!

Sparrow cottage in Villages of Cheshire was perfect! Charming neighborhood, walked paths through wooded areas, walked for dinner/drinks in village, loved Black Mountain’s quaint town with shops, breweries, restaurants. 12 miles from Asheville. We are already planning return trip.

Beautiful Cottage in Black Mountain

This cottage is in a very nice, private neighborhood and very close to downtown Black Mountain. The cottage was very clean and well maintained. I would recommend having an SUV to navigate the gravel lane to the cottage drive as it was pretty rough and prone to dragging in a sedan.

Great Location and Vacation Home

My family spent Labor Day weekend at the cottage and exploring nearby trails along the neighborhood. We especially loved the creek and beauty of the landscape. View from the patio was gorgeous. Floor plan was awesome for 4 of us- kids downstairs and parents upstairs. We were very close to the Biltmore, mountains, and restaurants. This house did not disappoint and we will definitely come back. Expectations for garbage, parking, etc was very well outlined on the communication leading up to our stay.

Cozy & Great Location

We make a couple visits a year to Asheville area, have been visiting Black Mountain area more… This property was great for us!! It was cozy, clean, had a nice balcony - with a nice view… Good walking in the neighborhood, close to everything in Black Mountain…not a far drive to Asheville. Easy Check- In, and communication was good!! Driveway is steep - short road up to the alley, that goes to the driveway is steep… We had no problems, and are used to this - to get a nice view. Great visit - we look forward to returning

Christmas 2022

We enjoyed a few days at Christmas. The house is nicely set up for two couples with bed/bath on ground and top levels. Kitchen is well equipped. The neighborhood is close to town and quick access to Asheville. Note - the houses in Cheshire are close together if this matters to you. The driveway is steep but you get used to it.

Relaxing Stay

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: House was cute and overall in good condition. Needed some slight maintenance in shower that needed regrouted and some rusty registers. We love the Cheshire community and have stayed at other properties here. Its a wonderful community to walk in. Bed was very comfortable in this property and kitchen was lovely. Very happy to find a rental that would allow us to bring our dogs with us. Also always appreciate a washer and dryer.

More towels, had 4 people staying, 2 were women and need extra towels for their hair. Paid good money for the rental only to have 1 towel per person. Upstairs bedroom ventilation not good. Very warm compared to rest of house.

Thank you for the feedback. I'm so glad you enjoyed the stay! The upstairs bed is a brand new natural latex bed. I'm sorry that the level of firmness was not to your preference. This is the first time we've heard mention of the upstairs the temperature not getting above 80 degrees during your stay dates and the A/C being fully functional, I'm confused about this detail. I understand that there were 10 towels stored at the home, so there should have been more than 1 towel per person available. Feel free to email additional details to if you'd like. It's always helpful to have feedback!

Cozy Cottage

Our two daughters visited on the weekend so it was great to have two king size beds and two full baths. The downstairs bedroom is HUGE and we probably should have nabbed that bedroom instead of the upstairs (which has a view and balcony). Kitchen had all we needed and the common area was fine for our (perfect for two). The location is GREAT and it was super easy to drive into Asheville for dinner...highway the entire way. Our only small complaint is we wish we had a covered porch. It would have been nice to have someone where to sit, read and relax on rainy days. Otherwise all was perfect!

Very clean, beautiful neighborhood

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We booked this house in September for thanksgiving week. We hand never traveled to Asheville and were looking for somewhere to stay that was close to everything but still in the mountains. I was surprised at how small this house actually was. We paid $375 per night and had one actual bedroom and bathroom upstairs. If you google the address here is shows it's a 1 bedroom 1.5 baths with 852 sq ft. This was very small for a family of 4. They made the downstairs basement into their 2nd bedroom and added a bathroom as well. I would not consider this to be a 2 bedroom house as advertised. The house was very clean and comfortable overall. You will get locked out of the house exactly at 10am in check out day so make sure you do not need to re-enter for any reason. The neighborhood was beautiful and we enjoyed dining at the Trailhead restaurant nearby. I would only recommend this property if it was advertised as it's true size and the price wasn't so high, even though it was thanksgiving week- almost $400 a night for a small 1 bedroom house is very high.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We and another couple shared this house for a 4-day getaway in early October. It met our needs perfectly. We were so grateful to find a house with 2 extremely comfortable king beds, separate bathrooms, and a kitchen that allowed us to cook and eat in. We used the gas grill on several occasions. Stairs to up and downstairs sleeping spaces were a bit steep, but we managed. As others have said, the driveway was also a little crazy. Decor was tasteful, modern, and neutral, much appreciated. Watch out for the bear that greeted us outside the front door when we returned one afternoon! Black Mountain is a wonderful reprieve from hectic Asheville!

You are about 3-5 minutes other grocery stores, Starbucks, & other fast food locations. 3 min from the interstate 40, 5 min from downtown Black Mtn. Approximately 15 min from the Biltmore Estate, & the Blueridge Parkway and many sites and attractions. I was pleasantly surprised & extremely pleased with the accomadatios & location.

My wife's and I only complaint was the bed. The bed was like sleeping on the floor even though it had a memory foam pad on it but it was very thin. Besides that had a great time staying in the home and visiting the surrounding area.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Property was as described and very clean and well kept. Bedrooms were either up or down stairs. Which we knew going in. We just didn't realize how old we had gotten since we had pulled a lot of steps. However, by the end of the week, we were doing much better going up and down the stairs. This is a great house for young people. The drive way was not easy to navigate. We also knew this going in. Would come back to this neighborhood, but not this particular house, because of the above mentioned difficulties for us.

Steep driveway requiring repairs to prevent damage to your car

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was somewhat unhappy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This cottage was clean, well-furnished and surrounded by very beautiful homes with pristine lawns and vegetation. Our main issue was the driveway and parking. We have a new, expensive automobile so it was of concern to us. It was mentioned in several older reviews. My take-away from this experience is that I need to read ALL reviews! When I called the management office and expressed our dismay with the driveway, I was told that in the past ten years no one else had brought this to their attention. I should add that the management did offer to move us to another property but unfortunately there was nothing available. Specifically in regard to the driveway, the drain grate across the entrance of the drive from a narrow alley is deteriorating and has the potential to destroy tires. Also, the vegetation along side the driveway needs to be pruned back to prevent scratching the paint on your car. The driveway is gravel, very steep, and offers very little room to negotiate and maneuver. Hopefully, you are very proficient at backing up! Even with all-wheel drive on our car, the tires were still spinning in the gravel. This driveway should at minimum be paved. There is no on street parking. Please be aware of this is you rent this property.

Very nice home

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Sparrow Cottage was very clean, and layout was great for 2 couples. Lots of room. Kitchen well equipped and updated. Some very nice touches for guests. Beds were comfortable. Only drawback was that back in Sept. 2017, I was told that the A/C for upstairs would be corrected "soon". It wasn't when we arrived in May. Got a bit warm up there. Thank goodness it wasn't hot out or we would have been very unhappy. Parking was a bit awkward, but we managed. Neighborhood is very cute and very quiet at night. Drive was only about 15-20 minutes from Asheville. Black Mountain is nice, but shops all close early. Also, flooding issue hampered some activities. We would return to area and would stay at Sparrow Cottage again if A/C is corrected.

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in the area and at Sparrow Cottage - thanks for returning! I'm so sorry the timing was off on the extra A/C unit being installed, but it has been included upstairs as of June 2018 so it will be available for your next visit. It was planned to be installed a bit earlier, but the area flooding that impacted all of Western North Carolina due to a coastal hurricane, caused a delay for the install. Thanks for providing this helpful feedback.
