The place is very nice and the location is amazing but the only downside is the smelly water both in the kitchen sink and shower, also there was barely any hot water… also the mayflies were sooooo bad that we couldn’t even sit outside

Surpassed Expectations

I'm not sure if the property changed owners, but the old bad reviews are no longer relevant. The unit was very clean and stocked with dishes, towels, toiletries, paper products, hand and dish soap. The decor is so quirky and cute! The lakefront location was unbeatable, and the restaurant on property is somewhat silly but fine. We will be back!

Water stinks

I sent sever messages requesting how to check in and no one emailed me back. Called at 4 at check in time again and finally talked to someone that got me an answer. Never stayed at a place that there were no bath towels, wash clothes and hand towels. The water stunk out of the shower.

Wendy, the right vacation home is everything, and we're disappointed if this wasn't the one for you. We followed up with the homeowner after reading your feedback, and they wanted to share the following: -We're not sure what contact you tried to email but we never received any communication from you at that time. We did provide you with detailed check-in instructions before your arrival but we're sorry that you could not find them to reference. Also, we do remind guests in our listing and check-in instructions that we do provide towels; we're sorry if this inconvenienced you. -We mention in our listing that the water is serviced from a well. Unfortunately, we cannot do anything about any apparent odor that may be a result of sulfur. We appreciate you taking the time to leave your review.

Worst vacation venue choice ever!

We were appalled at the accommodations and the treatment we received at check in. Chris, the property manager, did not meet us at check in and we had to hunt someone down who had to look for our paperwork and obviously was not familiar with withe process. This ended up adding at least a half hour to an already long travel day. The next problem was the WiFi. The original internet ad said WiFi would be available for extra cost. When it was obvious that there was no WiFi, we called Chris and he insisted that the original ad did not say anything about WiFi being available for an extra cost. He is absolutely wrong! We went back and sure enough, it was still stated in the ad. So no cell service, the barest minimum of satellite channels ( the shopping channels) the grounds were unkempt, could have used a machete cut, and the parking lot was full of puddles and therefore inhibited parking, and the front door of our condo looked like it hadn't been painted in years. We remained hopeful. The condo had the bare minimum of utensils- no colander, only 4 forks, only 4 knives etc., no toaster, no measuring cup (yes, we actually cook) bring your own towels, and Goodwill wouldn't have accepted the mattress on the bed if you paid them to take it. The rental cost for a golf cart to get around the island was outrageous. It was no vacation and we left on the third morning of our seven day vacation because we weren't getting any sleep on the ratty mattress and had no WiFi. The condo was misrepresented and I hope people heed this review... We wish we had paid much more attention to the reviews we had read. The one bar on the island may be fun but one bar does not make a great vacation. We don't drink.

We followed up with the homeowner after reading your feedback, and they wanted to share the following: -The property manager doesn't meet every guest at check-in. We send our guests an email 2 weeks before arrival to provide check-in instructions and pre-stay information to make check-in easy. -Guests have the option to connect to the resort Wifi for an additional fee, as advertised on the listing. -The landscaping of this resort property is designed to reflect a tropical rainforest type of walkway and garden. -The parking lot is gravel, and when rain has been substantial it can create some puddles in the area. We're sorry if this caught you off guard. -The listing states that the condo sleeps 4 people. We inventory the condo every year and provide 4 sets of essential items in the unit for guests' convenience. -We do what we can to make the best possible stay for all guests. While we try to accommodate all guests' comfort, we're sorry the mattress didn't meet your preferences. -Our tiny remote island comes with limited nearby social attractions but provides plenty of space to relax in privacy. Ultimately, it’s up to the guest how they want to spend their time in the area. Thanks for your valuable feedback as we continue to improve for future guests!

We enjoyed our stay. The view was gorgeous!! The condo was great. Would have been nice to have some towels provided. Also wanted to let you know that the water had a bad odor. Not sure if there's a problem or not.

The accommodations were fine. It should be noted in the write-up though that towels are not provided. Also there were no cereal bowls , serrated knives or a toaster. The owner should provide those.

One step away from camping

Decent place, not much to do

The listing says towels supplied, but they're not. Chris was responsive when we asked questions. Caution - there are only 2 restaurants on the island, and one is closed 2 days per week (Tues & Weds). The other one was closed Wednesday.

Weekend on Middle Bass

The condo that we stayed in was very nice. However, not all of the condos are taken care of in the same manner and when you drive up to the condo complex you will probably freak out and want to run the other way. It is very obvious that they are putting no money into the maintenance of the outside grounds. Weeds and potholes are all over. The steps and hallways could all stand to be pressure washed. I gave 5 star rating for our particular condo not for the overall facility. In addition, VRBO kind of oversells Middle Bass Island as a great place for a family vacation. It is not . There is nothing there which is what we wanted. We rode bikes and sat on the patio watching the lake and drank. In addition, we spent a lot of time at J F Walleyes. The food was very good and there servers/bartenders were very good and friendly. There is no beach. That was fine with us. We had the exact type of vacation we wanted for the weekend but pretty sure a family with kids would be disappointed. On a side note, the people were all very friendly. It is a small island and they definitely know who the visitors are.
