Great visit!

Our family of 4 had a lovely stay at Casa Chameleon. Sharr was very responsive, the space was open and lovely and the A/Cs in the bedrooms were divine. We loved using the bikes provided and a quick walk to the beach and Play Grande Surf Camp for lessons. Overall, another great stay at Playa Grande.

Nice community!

It was a bumpy start. Our hosts had somehow read our dates wrong, and the property wasn't ready for us upon arrival. We drove around in the dark looking for it after a full day of travel this was frustrating. We finally reached the host and got into the house around 8:00 p.m. Positives: the walk to the beach is short and sweet. The AC in the two bedrooms worked well. The host was responsive! The bicycles were great. Negatives: the 'beach' chairs we rented were actually camp chairs and not very comfortable for the rate charged. There was a 3 day wind event that took out the power and left a thick coat of dust everywhere. Despite saying that the unit would be cleaned, it wasn't. We never got fresh towels during our 10 day stay. The kitchen appliances were old (the blender had one speed that worked). The cooler that was for renter use had a long-broken zipper. The foliage surrounding the house was overgrown and we had to fight the jungle every time we wanted to get to our rental car. It also scraped the tin ceiling and made it sound like critters were constantly scampering, but it was just the trees. The photo on this ad is years old. Those trees are gigantic now. The screens were ripped and some of the windows in the loft had broken hardware. I really wanted to like this place, but instead of being great, it was okay.

Spacious home with short walk to a great surfing beach

We stayed here for a surfing trip over Easter break. We loved the quiet walkable neighborhood and the short walk to several restaurants, the estuary, and an excellent surfing beach—with very little competition for waves. The home was spacious and does heat up during hot, sunny days but we didn't spend much time indoors. Two of the bedrooms are air-conditioned.

Great house!!

So great this place!!! Beautiful and fully equipped! Everything you need is there! We had a very nice time there and recommend this place to anyone! The location of the house is very peaceful place, very relaxing and far from the noises of Tamarindo!! And the beach...just wow!

Great value on Playa Grande

For the price you can’t beat this place- amazing location (3 min walk to the beach), engaged and helpful owners and a really cool layout in the house itself. Only real downside was no A/C in the common areas but the owners were upfront and clear about that. I’d definitely recommend this place and stay here again.

Clean and maintained. Fit our needs perfectly. Priced appropriately. Location is fabulous.

Casa Cameleon fit our families needs perfectly. The Casa was clean and neat. The beds were comfortable. The Casa is priced appropriately. Perfect for a young active family. Sharr and Kristi were great communicators and we only needed to contact them for directions and laundry detergent. Nice people, nice place. What else would you need?

Pleasant beach house

Great location, close to the beach. The house is nice, but AC units are in the bedrooms only. The property manager Christi is really great, she is very knowledgeable and very helpful. We enjoyed our stay.

What a spacious and gorgeous little gem!

I stayed with my 2 staff here and the manager christy was outstanding, informative and courteous! Lots of space, 2 full bedrooms but lots of beds, full kitchen and 1.5 bathrooms. The pictures are clear about this space! The locals and the hot spots are amazing and don't forget to go eat at bula bula.

Not as expected

Unfortunately our stay at Camaleon Surf Shack was not as expected. When we arrived we discovered that the house was not fully enclosed (the walls did not meet the ceiling in the open loft area) despite the description listed as having "large screened windows." We were not anticipating that bugs would be able to readily enter the house and did not allow for the house to stay cool as the hot humid air just seeped in. We also discovered several other issues during our stay such as a leaky sink in the bathroom, and no door handle on the inside of one bathrooms (my young daughter trapped herself inside). The homeowner was responsive and had the property manager addressing the faucet and door issues, however we had to remain on property while the repairs were being made (as we were uncomfortable leaving all our valuables unattended with workers in the house). In addition the home owner offered use of a surfboard for the trouble but that didn't address our needs. Unfortunately the time spent addressing these ongoing issues (the sink was never properly fixed and the door handle was never addressed during our stay) greatly impacted our family vacation. We attempted to locate another property but did not find anything suitable for our family. Playa Grande is a great beach community which I would visit again, however despite the unique style of this home (which was initially appealing to us) I would look for a different property next time.

Homely oasis in paradise

Casa Camaleon's surf shack has been made with a lot of love. It was a pleasure to stay there. From the exotic art on the walls, the candles, spacious kitchen and open feel, cutlery housed in a coconut and the trees surrounding the house, this house has all the big and small touches. It was a haven after many long days hanging out at the beach, surfing, walking/water taxiing across to Tamarindo etc. And it's only a 5 min walk to the beach which most days you have all to yourself. It's the perfect place for a bunch of people who want to get away from it all and enjoy their own holiday by the beach. And you'll be in great hands with Kristi, the manager, for whom nothing is too much trouble. I'd definitely return and I have no hesitation in recommending Casa Camaleon. Thanks for a fantastic stay!

Perfect!

Casa Camaleon is just right! Just a short walk to the beach and includes all the things you need for a week in Costa Rica. It's nicely appointed, simple decor yet oozes Costa Rica with the vibrant colors, plants, and open feel. Plenty of places to eat in Palm Beach Estates and a little grocery store to get what you need. Beautiful beach with great shells and room to run and explore. We did not miss having a pool at all. La Playa Grande is all you need. A 30 second boat ride to Tamarindo too - only $1. We're already planning our next trip to this place. The owner was easy to communicate with and our concierge hooked us up with lots of local info and suggestions. It was perfect! We're in LOVE with Casa Camaleon!

Surf Shack is open living with lots of space and Costa Rica living at its best. The yard is lush, full of bird life, monkeys and fruit trees. You can see the moon set from the kitchen through the loft windows. Big kitchen space, pantry with washer and dryer. Modern AC's. Outdoor tropical shower for after surf wash off with big outside dining, patio hammock.
