Mendocino's Historic McCloud House Headland Views on the Edge of the Village

Stay in a piece of history in this 1880 nostalgic home on the edge of the town of Mendocino, offering amazing white water views and stunning sunsets. Enjoy the sights and soothing sounds of the waves while relaxing on the sun porch with a good book or take a short walk to access the 340 scenic acres of the Mendocino Headlands State Park and Big River Beach. The living room offers another area to cozy up in front of the crackling fireplace and enjoy those amazing views. Upstairs there are three bedrooms, (2 queens, 1 twin room) all with ocean views. (Queen sleeper sofa located in living room.) The bright kitchen is open to the dining area and includes a peninsula that can be used for eating, playing games or supervising the chef. If you don't feel like cooking, the seaside village of Mendocino is just a short walk away and offers charming restaurants, unique boutiques, galleries specializing in local art, and lively entertainment. Mendocino's McCloud House is the perfect setting to create Mendocino memories that will last a lifetime.

Property is charming, comfortable and convenient. And in a gorgeous location with a spectacularly framed view of the ocean.The only constructive comments are that it would be easier to have the house instructions printed and available at the property. And upon entering there is a strong musty smell that sometimes wafts through the house, even upstairs. But luckily it’s not always present. To end on a positive note, the hosts or management are good communicators and provided a lovely welcome.

Nice place to relax

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was clean. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Great location and comfy home. A few things to callout for the owner to look at. A little home maintenance can go a long way.-Foul smell coming from the garbage disposal. I think it needs to be cleaned out thoroughly. -Faucet sprayer on sink is very loose and just flops around.-Handle in the shower downstairs just spins around so it's hard to find the right temperature and turn off. -Drain in upstars and downstair shower are very slow to drain.Overall a great place to stay. It just needs some serious TLC.

Excellent communication from host on every aspect! Checking in/out, things to do in the area, things to know about the house, etc. Kitchen was well equipped and we appreciated the hand soaps & kleenex in many rooms. Nice towels, comfortable beds, blankets on the sofas for cuddling, bbq, car port was helpful in the rain, ample seating in each room. A great stay!

The home was wonderful accept for the nonstick cookware. They were scratched and old. Please provide cookware that is not coated. It is bad for our health.Parking was great and I loved walking into town from the house.Thank you, Laura and Steve

We loved how comfortable the house was, somehow both big and cozy. Lots of room for every one. Beautiful art and stunningly views! The kind of place that feeds the soul.

Great stay!

The property was charming and homey. It was nice to hear the waves crashing at night and the crackling, cozy fireplace. Our bed was comfy. We liked the location too, just outside of town but easy access. The management company was easy and responsive. We enjoyed our stay, thank you!

A Home Away From Home

We chose this place over a nearby inn or bed and breakfast because of the more affordable price, and it did not disappoint. We were in town for a wedding, and it was the perfect distance from the venue, as well as neighboring towns and local shops.The house had everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay—even creamer for the coffee maker, which was stocked with coffee grounds. We didn’t have any issues during our stay that required reaching out to the property managers; the instructions provided were clear, detailed, and easy to follow.While it didn’t have AC, the temperature is pleasant year-round, and if it ever gets chilly, there are baseboard heaters and a fireplace on the first floor (with firewood and kindling included). Quaint and quiet—just what we needed. If you’re looking for a peaceful getaway, this is a great spot!

Wonderful Property!

This was our second stay at this property. It is a very charming historic house with amazing views of the ocean from most all of the rooms. The cozy parlor is a perfect place to pass an afternoon reading a book or playing a game by the fire. The house is very convenient to the grocery store at the end of the street, the beach and to the town of Mendocino.

Gorgeous Location

Wonderful spot on planet earth. Views from all rooms of the ocean, even while it rained. Breathtaking sunsets. And they let us bring our dogs. Nice fireplace and the local radio station KOZT made everything groovy. We went to the Harvest Market the first night and bought hot clam chowder and sourdough for dinner. The next night we has fresh dungeness crab. Mendo baby.

It is a good home base for all of our activities in the area. We especially enjoyed evenings by the fire, playing games at the big table in the TV room and sitting in the little sun room enjoying the views and reading.We feel like we are home when we are here.

Great little rental

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Myself and my little dog had a great weekend at McLoud House.The lights were on and the house was warm when I arrived. There was plenty space and great to have 2 sitting rooms. We used the front room with the open fire. Having a basket to carry the fire would and a bucket for the ashes would have been perfect.It’s a great location, although you do need a car to get to the headlands as there are no sidewalks and it is a narrow road. Great views from the front of the house and a private garden and parking to enjoy. I would recommend taking a torch if you have a dog as it is VERY dark at night!Highly recommend this property.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We rented McCloud House for a weekend getaway in April and couldn't have chosen a more perfect location. Easy walk into town (albeit without a sidewalk) and amazing ocean views right from the bedroom. Mendocino weather can be tricky but Saturday was ideal for a day at the beach with an afternoon glass of wine on the porch. What more can you ask for?
