Beautiful North Shore River Retreat
Spacious, all-season cabin on a secluded, unique river front. Beautiful views of water and woods. Six private acres in a peaceful wilderness setting, yet with all amenities. Within ten miles from Lake Superior and four miles from groceries and restaurants. Large kitchen and living/dining areas, two bedrooms, full bath, comfortable beds, and leather furniture provide all you need for a relaxing wilderness retreat.
We are ranked among the Top 10 Secluded Cabins by Lake Superior! See (#2) https://trip101.com/article/secluded-cabins-on-lake-superior
*** IMPORTANT: By sending a booking request, you agree to everything in the description and attached Rental Agreement, so please read carefully.
This is a remote wilderness cabin, not a full-service hotel. We are on a septic system and dirt roads, and surrounded by wildlife. We ask you to bring towels and linens, clean up/ pack out when leaving, and conserve water & propane. In winter and spring weather, there is a small possibility that you have to park on the road and walk up to the cabin.***
Our spacious, light-filled cabin is set on a beautiful, secluded river front with dramatic bluffs and rapids and more quiet parts for swimming and fishing.
Large windows throughout give spectacular views of the river, woods and surrounding hills. The sound of the river provides a wonderful backdrop, and you will rarely hear any traffic. We are at the end of a quiet unpaved road. Neighbors can only be seen from few views on the property, and mainly in the winter when the leaves are down.
The house was designed and built by local craftspeople in 1994. It is spacious (1100 sf) with vaulted ceilings and an open floor plan.
The downstairs has a large, fully equipped kitchen with an adjacent dining area, a cozy sitting room with a comfortable leather sectional and great river views, a large entry area with a queen futon and leather arm chair, a TV room/study with loveseat and desks, and a full bath. The large three-season porch (with futon and lounger) and the outside deck are great places to view and listen to the river in warmer weather. The two bedrooms, with comfortable full and queen beds, are upstairs. Three closets provide ample storage space.
The cabin has a stereo, two TVs (without reception but with DVD/VCR, HDMI connection, DVDs, video tapes), and a propane grill (spring through summer). The kitchen has a toaster, microwave, coffeemaker and -grinder, electric kettle, blender, mixer and all essential utensils.
There is no landline, but cell reception with AT&T and several other carriers is usually decent.

We love sharing our cabin with responsible guests who appreciate a wilderness get-away over a hotel experience! Please consider BEFORE booking if our place is a fit for you and only reserve if you agree to everything here and in the rental agreement.
*** You need to bring some basics, clean up/pack out when leaving, and conserve water & propane. In winter and spring weather, there is a small possibility that you have to park on the road and walk up to the cabin. ***
CLEAN-UP: We do not charge a cleaning fee. You need to leave the whole cabin as clean as you found it and ready for the next guest. Please follow the cleaning guide provided. Take extra care to clean up kitchen, bath, and all food remains everywhere-- even small crumbs and spills will attract mice (see below).
GARBAGE/ RECYCLING: Please take garbage/recycling with you. You can leave compostables in our compost bin.
BRING YOUR OWN: You need your own linens and towels. Buy your own local firewood if you plan on campfires. Highly recommended: flashlight, insect repellent, and, in winter, a shovel and sand as the hilly dirt road to the cabin can be a challenge.
STRICT CANCELLATION POLICY: We rely on guests to keep their booking so please check all info, dates and policies carefully. There are no refunds or credits if you cancel within 60 days of your stay and we cannot make exceptions.
CONTACT US: We rely on guests to communicate with us if anything is missing or not working. With the remoteness, we cannot check the cabin after each guest, and sometimes things break or get displaced. Please let us know! Contacting VRBO first will only delay our ability to help.
CONSERVE WATER & PROPANE: We are on a septic system. It is essential to limit showers and flushes as much as possible. Flush only toilet paper (NO sanitary products, wet wipes, oils, harsh chemicals etc). Set heat to minimum anytime you leave cabin. Tap water is fine for washing & boiling. Please use drinking water provided for drinking.
WILDLIFE: To prevent mice, do not leave food out and clean up even small crumbs and spills right away. In the fall, mice might still come into the walls by the water pipes to seek warmth, but they will stay out of the living areas if food is cleaned up. It is thus possible you might see a mouse; please do not book if that is a problem! Because of bears, wolves and coyotes, do not leave garbage or food outside, and watch your dog.
NO TRESPASSING: Respect our neighbors and observe our property boundaries (see map posted in cabin) and Private Property signs. Do not go past the cable/gate at the end of the road or up the private side roads. Our neighbors take trespassing very seriously!
SNOWMOBILES/ATVs; HUNTING: Per county regulations: Max of 2-place trailers. Use only designated trails, NOT private roads for riding. Your vehicles MUST stay on the trailer while on our property and private roads around it. NO hunting or discharging firearms on property or in neighborhood.
NO-SMOKING: No smoking anywhere inside cabin, including porch. If you smoke outside, please use ashtray and clean up after yourself.
FIRES: No open flames inside. Check fire danger warnings before making outside fires. Use local firewood only. Keep fire inside firepit. Put it out completely when you leave it.
CHILDREN WELCOME: Note that the house is not child-proofed and has open, steep stairs, regular (non-TR) outlets, steep, slippery, rocky areas outside etc.
DOGS welcome; NO CATS, please: Well-behaved dogs are welcome for $10/dog/day. ***Keep them off the bedding provided, as other guests have allergies.*** If you allow them on the furniture, bring extra sheets to cover it. Do not leave them inside unsupervised unless kenneled. Clean up all dog hair and droppings when leaving. While we love cats, we regret that we cannot allow them due to severe allergies.
USE CAUTION: Leave no trace and explore the river and our property at your own risk. We are not responsible for injuries or losses to you, including those resulting from swimming, fishing, wading or other activities in the river. If you use the river, use caution on steep, slippery and/or rocky areas.
WINTER/SPRING DRIVING: In snow, ice, or mud, the last 1/2 mile of dirt road and driveway is difficult. Please be prepared for the possibility that you have to park on the road and walk the last bit to the cabin, esp. if you don't have 4WD. Use of driveway and dirt road is at your own risk. Please do not attempt to drive on them in dangerous conditions. When in doubt, park and walk! ***We cannot be responsible for costs to you or give refunds if your car cannot make it all the way to the cabin.*** (See the detailed attached manual for more).
THANK YOU!

I grew up in Europe but have lived in the US and Canada for nearly 30 years, mostly in Minneapolis. After living in New York City, Western New York, and Montreal, my husband and I settled back into the Twin Cities.
Two years ago we found our dream North Shore cabin and love spending time there when we can, hiking, swimming, skiing etc. with our two dogs.
We enjoy sharing our cabin with guests who appreciate a wilderness get-away!
