Beautiful Home

We had such a great time staying at the property and it was a perfect fit for our large group. The view is amazing and we really liked being in a gated community. Macho and Maria made things very easy and helped with anything we needed. We would definitely stay here again!

Almost heaven

Amazing time with family and wonderful memories made. Best pool we’ve ever enjoyed!! Can’t beat the view. Large areas to gather family inside and on the patio with huge opening doors in between. Great restaurants nearby too. Enjoy!!

Great Family Vacation

House & property were amazing. Can’t beat the sunsets. Took the best snorkeling trip ever which included dolphins, manta rays, octopus, tons of fish & sea turtles! Zip lining was a blast as well. Macho & Maria were great and provided whatever we needed. Highly recommend booking this property and can’t wait to go back!

Stunning Views!

We just completed our stay at Sun Monkey a group of 14 ranging in ages from 16 - 90 years old. There was something for everyone. The architecture and views from all the common areas are absolutely breathtaking from dawn to dusk. While the house is older, it is a good value . What was most impressive was the responsiveness of the house managers Manrique and Brett. We changed our plans a few times and they were always able to accommodate. Jay the chef is fabulous and definitely a great idea for large groups. The rain forest hike was amazing we saw poisonous dart frogs to baby Toucans. On the river boat tour the monkeys and crocodiles were within touching distance. Great property and well managed

Of 12 Trip

Our whole family of 12 enjoyed the Sun Money home for 5 days! And then we sent the family home and my husband and I stayed an additional 4 days! Was in a perfect location to see a lot of Costa Rica! House had everything we needed! Maria and Macho were there when needed. We used our own personal concierge that was a friend of a friend from home so these are services we didn't use from the house but were offered! Would definitely return to the Sun Monkey on a trip back to Costa Rica!!

Fantastic Villa for Family Fun

We had 12 people in our family stay at Sun Monkey. There was more than enough rom for everyone to be comfortable. The view!!!!! omgosh!!! The pool area was where we "lived" for a week, with the backdrop of the jungle and the ocean with its amazing sunsets. The patio has huge tables outside to eat and play games, a sound system, a gorgeous pavilion, and a large bbq area. There was little need to go anywhere else. Maria's breakfasts were very helpful and delicious. Because we stayed in for dinner many times, the only suggestion that I have is that it would have been helpful to get a kitchen "tutorial". The knobs are in Spanish and difficult to read. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend Sun Monkey.

The Villa

The property is absolutely stunning. Things we found annoying were if you wanted to use the hot tub you had to find the house manager to turn it on and then it took two hours for it to heat up. Never found out if it ever reached 100 degrees. Sometimes could not find the house manager. The house listing says there is a fire pit. When we asked how you light it the house manager said it was just for show and you can’t light it. Maria, the housekeeper is Super. She cooked dinner for us on two occasions and quite delicious. She kept the house immaculate. Also,found many light bulbs needed to be replaced.

50th Celebration

Ten of us stayed at sun monkey for my 50th birthday celebration. The house was stunning - the pool was bigger than I thought! We loved all the outdoor spaces including $55 per hour massages that were top notch (ask for deep tissue ahead of time - mas fuerte - if you desire). Monkeys visited us twice to eat the yellow flowers on the tree. Macho was amazing, helping us with whatever we needed. Tours are cheaper thru Macho than online! Maria cooked for us twice for $25 per person and the meals were outstanding!! Great tres leches cake. We snorkeled and took a fishing excursion right off of playa hermosa. We were lucky and brought in a huge 35 lb Mahi and a 200 pound white marlin (had to release that one). Saw lots of dolphins, spotted eagle rays and sea turtles. Found a hidden fish market in coco and bought a huge tuna filet (fed all 10) and a large bag of shrimp for $60. We rented a golf cart from macho for those who didn’t want to traverse the hill to the store, restaurants or the beach. Incredible experience. Would definitely do it again.

Our stay at Sun Monkey

As others have reviewed, the outdoor space at Sun Monkey is sincerely breathtaking and forsure the star of this home. The interior however leaves a bit more to be desired. We are a small family of four that stayed in this very large home, and we struggled finding a bed that did not have some type of stain on it. In fact nearly EVERY fabric surface from curtains, rugs, lamp shades, all furniture cushions both inside and out and all bed linens were stained in some way. In general Sun Monkey seemed grimy and unequivocally needs a thorough deep cleaning especially of high touch surfaces like light switches, handles and every part of the kitchen. There is a need of general maintenance such as a whole house paint job due to majority of the walls being dirty and stained, and even exposed raw plaster of a repair job that was not finished. There were curtains falling off of the rods, and multiple cabinets that are missing knobs leaving sharp screws exposed. I've rented homes all over the world specifically four in Costa Rica alone and I have a good and fair grasp of expectations based on price, reviews, photos and the home's rental listing itself, and for the first time in a while, I feel duped. Per the description, I was expecting a luxurious Costa Rican home both inside and out. What I got was a dated and unfortunately grimy party house that seems used and abused and not kept up. Although Sun Monkey is spacious, it's definitely quantity over quality. We didn't even have drinking water during our stay with no real explanation as to why it wasn't working when we asked Maria. On a positive note though Macho did arrange a zip lining tour which was a blast, and he had our two children help him plant lettuce in the greenhouse which made for a memorable experience.

AMAZING!!!! Dream come true!

My closest friends and family stayed at this GORGEOUS property for the night of my wedding and a few days after and it was truly a dream come true. The property is breathtaking, clean, and spacious. Bret was a pleasure to work with. He communicated wonderfully and also set things up for me with ease like a brunch for my wedding morning and grocery delivery. There was also helpful staff if needed! 11/10 recommend and will 100 percent be coming back to stay here again. It will be forever a part of my heart and my husband and I’s love story! THANK YOU!!!

April retirement!

Our family celebrated my husbands retirement with a family vacation!! We were thrilled with our Vrbo! The pool was bigger and better than we expected! The best part was the excellent communication with our host, Brett. He was quick to respond and helpful with all of our questions! We would return in a heart beat!

Can't beat this view!

We loved our stay at this property as it was plenty of room for our family of 13! The pool was a hit with our kds and the view was amazing. The property manager was very accommodating and helpful to our family and tended to any needs we had. The location was perfect - a short drive to Playa del Coco and an even shorter drive to Playa del Hermosa. We highly recommend this property!

Multi family stay

Absolutely fantastic view, very well laid out with great bathrooms and bedrooms and well stocked kitchen. Golf carts are great for short trips and teens to take to the beach. Property manager and concierge and housekeeping were all attentive and very nice.

Amazing Ocean View House with Infinity Pool

This ocean view house in Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica, is simply amazing. The infinity pool offers stunning views of the Pacific, especially at sunset. The house is spacious, modern, and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The location is great! Close to the beach and local spots. Exceptional property

As first time travelers to Costa Rica, we had many unknowns. We are thankful we chose Sun Monkey. The house and staff were exceptional. There were 12 of us with five kids under 10. Bret was invaluable in helping us plan all excursions, our chefs, and caring for any needs we had. He was very patient with our many questions which we appreciated. The house was more than adequate and accommodated all of us comfortably. We had room to spread out as well as gorgeous common areas to enjoy family time. Clean, comfortable, and well stocked. The pool was just amazing and there are no words to describe the incredible view. The sunsets were spectacular. We opted to get a professional photographer one evening and are glad we did. Bret planned all of our excursions. We stayed local as we didn’t want to travel far with a two-year-old. We went to a Park, snorkeling excursion, the guys went fishing and the girls had massages at the house. We had a lovely day at the beach where the staff set up a cover/chairs for us at a beautiful spot. All excursions were enjoyable, especially the catamaran where to the delight of our grandchildren we saw many dolphins! The chefs were all fantastic! There are several in our family that are excellent cooks, and they were impressed with all of our meals! Chef Francis was amazing and even prepared delicious food that some of our picky grandkids loved! Our stay was all we hoped it would be and more. We will be back to Sun Monkey again when time allows.

Amazing Property!!!

We had the best time. This property was everything that was advertised and more. Bret was amazing to work with. He arranged transportation, dinner reservations, excursions, grocery delivery, and even a personal chef for us. The layout of the house was perfect for our group of 11. Every bedroom had its own bathroom!! Such a huge plus. The view from the back of the house was breathtaking. Never seen anything like that before. We had a couple of golf carts which worked awesome for getting to dinners or quick trips to the grocery store that was right by the property. Can’t say enough about this proper and trip. Thank you Bret and all the other people that made it such an amazing trip. Looking forward to returning again soon.

The people are very nice and not resentful of foreigners. There is not the poverty nor crime of other countries. There is such an eclectic mix of people from all over the world who come here to vacation, snowbird, or full time living, it is very exciting!

I looked at 50 Villas and as soon as I walked into Sun Monkey, I knew it to be home. Unless you have spent some time in this area, it is difficult to to explain the differences between SM and other homes in this price range. Location, location, location. Very close to beach, but away from hubub. Very short and easy drive from main road. Large 1.75 acres of lush private gardens. Private enough to host a nudist group! The extra pavilion structure is very special. It provides another gathering place, enabling a large group or family to spread out and not feel on top of one another. It regularly hosts morning exercise sessions, afternoon naps, 15 people doing yoga, and twilight evenings rocking & watching magnificent Sunsets, with a cold one. We have had the pool redone and added sun shelves to linger on. A new hot tub spa is installed between pool and pavilion. Hidden Outdoor shower could have been built by Fred Flintstone and receives interesting reviews by guests!
And we have the best full time property management. Malinche Properties make your vacation effortless. Owning two restaurants and a brewery provide us the platform to offer numerous chef and meal options from "white tablecloth" to simple BBQ's.
