If you want to experience what living on a working ranch is like, you've come to the place. Our small but active ranch is home to 12horses, 2 miniature donkeys, 2 barbados sheep, chickens, 4 cats, 1 bunny and an awesome border collie name Jax.

Your bunkhouse is adjacent to the barn. You can't get much closer! Enjoy a swing in the hammock while gazing at the green pastures filled with horses grazing. Bring your horse and trail ride in the Endurance Capital of the World.
Sign up for horse lessons, and/or a trail ride on one of our horses.
Spend the evening star gazing by the fire pit while listening to the local owls.
And more....

Our beautiful ranch is located 1.5 miles to Rattlesnake State Park/Folsom Lake. There is hiking, kayaking, boating and swimming. We are within 20 minutes of unlimited trails and the wine country. Enjoy hiking, kayaking, boating, and swimming nearby. Everything you could want in the Foothills.

P.S. There is a one time $40 per dog/cat fee. Horse are $25 per day.

Wonderful stay!

My husband and I spent three nights at this property while visiting our son who lives nearby. We so enjoyed the country atmosphere, especially the border collie Jax, who hung out with us and is the sweetest boy! In practical terms, it checked every box and if you're looking for a peaceful place to stay this would be it!

The perfect place to stay

This bunkhouse is the cutest place we have ever stayed. Loved being surrounded by horses. The bed is the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in away from home. My favorite part was finding Jax waiting out the back door to say hi. Farm fresh eggs in the fridge and muffins on the counter were a nice touch. We will be staying here again. Such a gem.

Idyllic stay at Whirlawind Ranch

The property is tucked back in the oak filled town of Newcastle. As you drive up the gated drive you will see the horses, donkeys, and a sheep grazing in the pasture. The bunkhouse is a one bedroom, one bath house which includes a nice kitchen. This immaculate little house is connected to a likewise immaculate stable area. The owner's ranch dog stopped by to say hello and we saw a couple of the barn cats lazing in the sun. There is a lovely shaded area next to the bunkhouse with an outdoor table, fire pit, and hammock. The owner was both friendly and helpful but not intrusive at all! Can't say enough about this lovely spot!

I had a wonderful time with my stay at Whirlawind Ranch. The place was nice and clean and it was very relaxing looking at the horses in the pasture. Colleen gave me directions to the lake down the road and I used the free pass to get into the park. I also enjoyed the farm fresh eggs that were in the refrigerator. I would love to return sometime.

Horse Heaven!

This was a peaceful, rural stay. The 1 bedroom apartment/bunkhouse in the horse barn is clean and comfortable. I loved looking out the window and seeing the horses at pasture.

Labor Day weekend getaway

The gorgeous property, the horses, Jax the Border Collie, and Colleen the owner--it was perfection. We will never forget the experience. Colleen was generous, laid back, responsive, and kind. Great place, great price. Highly recommend!

A rest in the country

Our stay at the ranch was relaxing and fun. Jak, my grandson loved Jax, the beautiful farm dog who made us welcome. Our place was well furnished with all we needed and the view from the lawn was beautiful. Thanks to Colleen we were well taken care of and I recommend Whirlawind Ranch as a wonderful location for a peaceful country retreat.

Extended Weekend

Exceeded our expectations in every way. Friendly hostess, Colleen was awesome. Jax was a hoot and do good with our dig Max. The place is dreamy, the evening's are magical. Highly recommend!

So Relaxing

This wasn’t in our plans but decided to try something different based on the reviews we read. This 2 night stay may well be the highlight of our 14 day road trip. The rental unit very roomy, included anything you could possibly need. Very clean and the bed was super comfortable. As nice as it was,we spent most of our time outside in the yard just watching the animals grazing in the field. Even at night we enjoyed sitting outside. Loved it when Jax, border collie, would come to visit. Colleen was a super host, so friendly and easy to talk to. Our only regret is we didn’t stay 2-3 more nights, this was so relaxing

Tranquility

I can not recommend this place enough. The rural setting was a much needed break for my wife and I to reset. Being surrounded by horses, donkeys, chickens, and beautiful views is our happy place. We had great conversations with the property owner and she provided sight seeing ideas. The only negative we could come up with was the slow internet speed but that actually adds to the peace of the experience. Once again, we had a great time and would happily book again if available.

Peaceful

Calm and refreshing getaway. The bunkhouse is clean, comfortable, has sharp knives (not the usual for rentals), the fridge had ranch fresh eggs and the property is dog friendly! Colleen is an A1 hostess with a wonderful property. Would stay her again and recommend that you do too.

Peaceful retreat

We truly enjoyed Whirlwind Ranch. The property is more than we expected. It is absolutely beautiful and serene. Colleen was so friendly and kind. Their dog Jax is so cute and sweet. The fresh eggs and pastries were a pleasant surprise. It is a wonderful experience to be around beautiful horses and cool donkeys!

Simply stunning property

We stayed here a month while in between homes. On moving day we arrived in the evening exhausted and were so surprised to see this stunning property as we drove up. It was like arriving at heaven after moving all day. After waking up and looking out the windows in the morning I couldn’t believe we had the honor of staying such a beautiful place. It’s completely relaxing and peaceful. The horses are wonderful to watch as well as all the other animals. Jax, the family dog, is so friendly and will probably meet you in the morning to say Hi. Jax also, loves his treats! We miss him! You’re also, just down the road from Folsom lake which is beautiful. Colleen, the host, is wonderful and couldn’t be more pleasant to talk to. She actually gave us the name of her mortage broker, which absolutely helped us get into the house that we are now buying. So, without coming and staying at this wonderful property we would have never found our new mortgage broker who has helped us get into for our forever home. We are forever grateful to Colleen and her all her help!! Thank you Colleen for all you’ve done for us!!!

Beautiful and Peaceful

The property and animals were so enjoyable and well cared for. Beautiful setting and peaceful. Loved the back yard. I felt like i was at home. Huge shout out to Jax, the boarder collie. The best welcome everytime i seen him. Absolutely would stay again.

Above and Beyond - Expectations Exceeded!!

This was hands down the best VRBO experience I’ve ever had! It’s all because of the hostess, Colleen - she is so, so kind and thoughtful, and generous with her time. Fresh eggs and muffins were waiting for us for our next day’s breakfast. She took the time to talk to us and recommend nearby hiking trails and there’s even a pass you can take so you don’t have to pay parking. She’s an expert on the area’s recreational offerings and has such an impressive past with all of her horse experience! We really enjoyed talking with her and learning about each horse - she even let us groom and feed them! The ’bunkhouse’ is really cool and has all the amenities you’d need - so clean and organized, and comfortable! The outside area is perfect for outdoor dining - there’s even a fire pit she keeps ready for you. The property is beautiful and surprisingly close to many hiking trails - just a couple minutes from Folsom Lake - and not far from our favorite, the Confluence. Look no further - I promise you you’ll have a great experience!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this very special place. We loved every moment of our stay at Colleen’s bunk house, The horses and other animals are tremendous… and Jax is such a loving dog, it was a joy to have him around. Beautiful area in the Sierra foothills and the stars are amazing at night and in the early morning. Highly recommend!
