Shell Cottage is a unique blend of classic New England and modern loft styles. This charming vacation rental offers 1188 square feet of living space. It boasts a vaulted living room, front and rear skylights, loft, gas fireplace, large deck, and many creative touches. Sleeps 4 in 2 Queen beds. Well-behaved dogs welcome w/ approval.

Perfect location close to beaches, scenic marshes, nature trails, dog-friendly beach, shellfishing area, and marina. A quick drive to Martha’s Vineyard / Nantucket ferries; the commuter train to Boston; Newport, and Cape Cod. This cottage also offers access to a small private community beach just steps away.

The open-space living design includes a seating area, dining area, and kitchen. The first floor Master bedroom adjoins bathroom and opens onto the large back deck. Second “bedroom” is an open skylit loft which has a custom queen bed suspended from the rafters as well as a seating area.

The cottage offers central air, gas fireplace, well-equipped kitchen, dishwasher, gas grill, wifi, 2 flat screen HD televisions w/ Hulu Live Streaming Service, washer/dryer, and parking.

Linens, towels, beach chairs, and beach cooler provided.

Great weekend getaway

This is a very nice little house. It is clean and comfortable and well equipped with the essentials. Greg was readily available when needed. We had a fun weekend here!

Great location, quiet and peaceful

Very tastefully decorated! Every kitchen item and appliance you could ever need! Nice yard and deck. Owner has supplied more than we expected! Towels, sheets, etc. Recommend this rental.

a lovely delightful stay at Shell Cottage on West Island. there is beautiful nature area with an abundance of birds. the house itself had many thoughtful conveniences. so close to the gorgeous town beach; and also a pretty little beach down the street. the house was filled with light and charming decor. one of the best. greg so helpful! the tV even has the tennis channel. Great for Roland Garros :)

Lovely stay

Shell cottage was clean, bright and comfortable. Despite rainy weather for most of our stay, we enjoyed every day. Took short drives to downtown Fairhaven, New Bedford and Falls River, visited excellent museums, had great food, met friendly people and explored quaint neighborhoods. Came home for evening walks with our pup around the island and cozy nights in the cottage with the fireplace on cold evenings.

Small island relaxing getaway

This cottage was just what we were looking for and more. Only used downstairs bedroom. Once you go over the causeway, the sea air and island calm takes over. Great restaurant right on the causeway but often cooked seafood in the well appointed kitchen. No issues….owner responsive.

Charming and quaint

What a beautiful and quaint cottage! My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The location is perfect if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. Greg, the host, is a great communicator. He answered my questions promptly and clearly. We will definitely be back again. Thanks Greg.

Autumn on West Island

You are fortunate indeed if you have plans to stay at Shell Cottage on West Island! From the moment we entered the Home, the Cleanliness and the Charming Decor were Evident! All the Amenities are there! The Bed is Comfortable and there are plenty of nice Towels! So, whether or not you catch your favorite football game in the cozy living room space, enjoy the Autumn Splendor on the comfortable Deck or take your Canine Companion on a Wonderful Walk around the Pretty Island, You will have a Great Time and You will want to return Soon!

Cozy beach cottage

We had a great long weekend at the seashell cottage! The host, Greg, was very helpful and accommodating from start to finish. The cottage was so cute and well thought out. It had everything we needed and was just so cozy. The loft and swinging bed was a fun feature. All beds, couches, linens were very comfortable. Location on the island was great, loved going on early morning walks and seeing the sunset on the beach. Would definitely return in the future!

Perfect way to kick off summer

If you are looking for a quiet location, yet close to attractions, this is the home for you. We absolutely loved this clean and beautiful home. Greg was very responsive and beyond helpful during our stay. His very responsive communication and hospitality was excellent and very much appreciated. We enjoyed our short walk to the beach for the sunset, morning walk on the white sand on another nearby beach, and the short drive to nearby attractions. We enjoyed being close to the ferry to head out to Martha’s Vineyard, and enjoyed the early summer blooms at nearby gardens, especially the roses at the Rotch-Jones-Duff House. If you’re looking for a great stay, look no further. Thank you so much, Greg. This will be a birthday celebration my sister won’t forget.

Wonderful relaxing vacation on West Island

Shell Cottage was all I could have ever hoped for this past weekend for a quick getaway with my sister. From its comfy beds, well-stocked kitchen, and linens to the cozy fireplace Greg has left no stone unturned in stocking this little gem. I was so happy I could bring my well-behaved dog as well. Add in Greg's homemade scones that he blessed us with and I was in heaven! Thank you for a truly wonderful stay! I will be back for sure!

Perfect Workation Destination

Everything was perfect. Excellent internet & good phone reception for an island. Wish we could have stayed longer. April was a quiet off-season time of the year. Our 13 year old dog was happy with it too.

Beautifully appointed and in a quiet location

The cottage is perfectly decorated and there is excellent use of space. My son loved the hanging bed. A very cool touch. Great spot to go on walks and see the water.

Wonderful vacation!

Another relaxing visit to West Island

After 19 month in quarantine our family enjoyed four days at Greg’s lovely home. West Island is a hidden jewel in Massachusetts and is close to many lovely beaches. This cottage has everything a visiting group might need !

Perfect Beach Getaway

We really enjoyed staying in Shell Cottage with our family of 4. It was the perfect size and the cottage has everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing vacation. The private local beach is just perfect - its private and just a 3 minute drive or short walk from the cottage. There is also a serene private beach accessible by a short trail where dogs are allowed, which was great for our dog to get some beach time during the summer. We would highly recommend this cottage to others and hope to return next summer for some R&R in this little gem!

Shell Cottage, the Perfect Place to Stay on a Beautiful, Unique Island!

Shell Cottage is the ideal place to stay for two to four people visiting West Island. While small like most of the cottages on the island, it has been opened up in a way that makes it feel extremely spacious and airy. Also, the cottage decor is perfectly matched to island living, and the furnishings are very comfortable - including a large, outdoor deck. Finally, the kitchen is well-equipped and has excellent, modern appliances. Everything was extremely clean, and my husband and I felt completely comfortable even during this time of Covid-19. Greg, the owner, was always very communicative before our visit to answer questions and even came to the house on our day of arrival when we had a bit of trouble opening the door -- which we never had again during the visit. We had a wonderful week staying at Shell Cottage on this beautiful, unique island and highly recommend this property and its owner.

Quiet Getaway

This was our first trip to West Island on the recommendation of family who have visited in the past. The rental cottage was exactly as advertised. We had plenty of space to stretch out on the back deck as well as inside with the open concept floor plan. Kids really enjoyed the floating bed (can’t stop talking about how fun it was). Overall we loved everything about the rental as well as how communicative the property owner was. We certainly will keep this property in mind the next time we come to visit. Hopefully it will still be available. Gems like this one tend to be booked up right away.

Fantastic!!

Spacious and super clean! Cozy looking front opened up to all rooms having plenty of living space including the large deck. Tasteful decor and equipped with everything we could possible need! Literally 2 minute walk to community beach for morning coffee and gorgeous sunsets :)

West Island Shell Cottage is a Gem

We had a very relaxing stay at Shell Cottage! Communication with Mr. Burns was effortless, as was check-in and check-out. Shell Cottage is light, bright and sparkling clean! We found it furnished with just everything we needed for our stay; clean, stylish and in beautiful condition. The hanging bed in the loft is especially cool! West Island is a friendly and low-key spot freshened by sweet ocean breezes from Buzzards Bay (water view from right in front of the cottage!). The island is small enough to walk or bike from end-to-end. The beaches are delightful and a treasure trove of slipper shells and sea jingles! Check out the cute general store if you need a snack, bar of soap, candy lobster or candy cigarettes! Bike into Fairhaven on the Phoenix Bike Trail; architecture nerds will love the Millicent Library, Town Hall and Unitarian Memorial Church. Go to New Bedford to visit the Whaling Museum and pick up the freshest fish, lobster and shellfish at Kylers Seafood. Flour Girls, just up the road, offers luxurious sandwiches, pastries and delicious Jim's Organic Coffee! Don't miss Turks and the Oxford Creamery in Mattipoisett. The surrounding villages and farmcoast is paradise; beautiful farms and fresh produce are in abundance. Stay at Shell Cottage - you will not be dissapointed!

Shell Cottage was beautiful. It was very comfortable and well equipped. The kitchen was a delight to cook in and the owner provided so many details like beach towels, a grill, and information about things to do in the area. A lovely cottage and fun vacation.

This was a great place to stay. Everything we needed was readily available. Greg responded vey quickly emails. We were also able to access Newport , RI easily. I would definitely stay here again.

Great getaway!

My family had such a wonderful experience at Shell Cottage! The home was immaculate with special attention paid to the little things that make staying away from home feel like home. The owner, Greg, was super accommodating and a true pleasure to interact with. The town beach was very close and has some amazing views to offer. In addition to the beach, we rode our bikes on the local bike path - flat, scenic, and far enough to get some exercise but not so far to have the kids complain. Overall, truly a great getaway.
