Scandi-Modern INCREDIBLE VIEWS Large Deck
Mountain life meets high-end, cozy comfort at Lakeview Haven, a Scandinavian Modern styled retreat overlooking Colorado’s Lake Granby, with gorgeous 180-degree views of the lake and mountain peaks from its large deck.
We've taken a Mid Century house and kept many of its charming vintage interior features, but added a lovingly curated look that mixes retro, Scandinavian hygge, and modern comfort and functionality.
You'll have this well-supplied house to yourselves in a quiet neighborhood.
After many years of our own travel and staying in vacation rentals, we've made sure that the look, comfort (ESPECIALLY, comfortable beds!), touches and supplies that are important to us are reflected in what we offer to you. Our house is perfect for a romantic getaway; a couples retreat; or a friends, family or sports vacation.
Lakeview Haven offers 3 bedrooms (1 king bed and 2 queen beds) and 3 baths, with a capacity of 6 people. We have laundry machines, and feature ample parking, are permitted for 4 vehicles and can accommodate a small trailer.
Our guests say they appreciate the details and interactive touches that make Lakeview Haven feel like a "home;" that it is well-supplied and thoughtfully cared for; that it is equipped for families with children; and that it is close to so many summer activities. And: Everybody loves the deck and the views.
We have rented Lakeview Haven on another platform since 2019 (where we have 71 reviews and a 4.96/5.0 rating), and are excited for our renewed relationship with VRBO this year. We are communicative hosts, and work hard for our guests. This is our only vacation rental, and we use it ourselves during the off-season. So we take care of it for us, but also take great pleasure in providing a wonderful experience for you.
The Details:
* Relax outside on our large deck for your meals, morning coffee, or evening cocktail; read or play games; stargaze at night (we have personally laid out on the chaise lounge chairs to watch meteor showers); and watch the boats on the water and the weather as it changes over the peaks in several directions. With our view, cloudless bluebird days and stormy afternoons are equally enrapturing. Keep an eye out for fox, moose, elk, deer, hummingbirds, osprey, and a multitude of other birds. We see them all in the neighborhood, seasonally.
* The views don't stop with the deck. We've set up the inside to take best advantage of the views, as well, with cozy perches, the dining table near windows, and a kitchen island set up so you can look out at the lake and mountains while preparing meals. The ensuite queen bedroom features an excellent lake and mountain view.
* We've made a great effort to ensure the kitchen is well-supplied in terms of pots and pans, dishes (including a small supply of children's dishware), appliances, and cooking utensils, as well as cleaning supplies, soaps, coffee filters, paper towels, cooking oil, spices, and salt/pepper. We like to cook and bake, so our kitchen is set up for people who also like to cook and bake. We have a stand mixer, hand mixer, blender, food processor, microwave, slow cooker, George Forman grill, stovetop popcorn popper and tea kettle, a traditional drip coffee maker and a French press, and a coffee-bean grinder. THE ONLY THING MISSING in the kitchen is a DISHWASHER; we're still working it into the fantastic retro-Sixties lower cabinetry. We do have a propane grill right outside the kitchen door.
* In the Great Room you'll find an inviting living and dining area that represents a mix of Mid Century Modern and Scandinavian Modern furniture, hand-picked design elements and art, a wood-burning fireplace with supplied wood, plenty of cozy throw blankets, Wi-Fi, a high-definition TV, a modern turntable with vintage records allowing you to have an analog Sixties experience through a modern entertainment system, and a large DVD collection. Play your own streaming apps through our Chromecast. (We do not have cable TV.)
* The bedrooms have COMFORTABLE mattresses and supplied linens and towels. Each bathroom has toilet paper, facial tissue and hand soap. There are extra blankets and pillows, and standing fans in the closets for summer months. (PLEASE NOTE that like most mountain homes in the area, WE DO NOT HAVE AIR-CONDITIONING.) There are two hair dryers in the house, and beach towels in the hall closet. And we have one high chair and one Pack N Play, with linens.
* The art in the house celebrates the history of Grand County, Rocky Mountain National Park, the allure of Colorado outdoors, and our Scandinavian heritage. We offer a small curated library of regional books for your reference; take-one-leave-one novels; and LOTS of games and toys (in the hall closet, 3rd bedroom and outdoor storage). And our custom wall map shows the boat launches, local trails and provides the names for local features you'll view from the house.
Lakeview Haven is certainly a retreat, an escape, a place to unwind, a place to reconnect with yourself, each other and nature. But we are also at the epicenter of endless opportunities for summer and early-fall activities.
* 2 blocks from Lake Granby and Beacon Landing Marina. Lake Granby is the second-largest body of water in Colorado and offers a plethora of summer fishing and other water-sports opportunities, and gorgeous scenery – it’s encircled by several mountain ranges. Reserve (plan ahead) a pontoon boat or canoe from Beacon Landing and explore the lake's nooks and crannies, and remote beaches (or a kayak or SUP board from vendors on Shadow Mountain and Grand lakes;
* 3 blocks from the start of the Granby Pump Canal, which feeds into Shadow Mountain Lake. It’s a great spot for fishing, and the relatively flat path along it is one of our favorites for taking an easy walk or a scenic run. You many see many types of ducks, as well as river otters;
* 2.5 miles from the Stillwater Boat Launch.
* 3 miles from the Green Ridge Boat Launch.
* 3.5 miles from Shadow Mountain Dam, where the Colorado River flows out of Shadow Mountain toward Lake Granby. The 2-mile stretch of the river in between is a popular fishing spot.
* 5 miles from Grand Lake and Grand Lake Village (quaint town, restaurants, shopping, Mountain Market grocers, many lake activities). Grand Lake Village is known for its summer and early-fall events and festivals, including its famous 4th of July celebration, Folk Festival, Tombstone Tales, Buffalo Days, and the Troublesome Fest music festival. You'll also find the East Inlet Trailhead to Adam's Falls (and beyond) east of the village on the far end of the lake;
* 5.5 miles from the West entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park, home to stunning, rugged scenery; incredible hiking and wildlife; and the 48-mile Trail Ridge Road, the highest continuous paved road in North America;
* 6 miles from Grand Lake Golf Course (14 miles from Grand Elk Golf Club);
* 10 miles from the town of Granby (main street, bigger stores, large grocery store, additional restaurants, hospital and such);
* 13.5 miles from the Granby Rodeo at Flying Heels Arena;
* 15 miles from the Monarch Lake Trailhead, which features a gorgeous and family-friendly 4-mile loop around the lake. Moose sightings are common;
* 20 miles from YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch, which offers tons of family-friendly summer activities, including horseback riding, canoeing and SUP boarding, an aerial challenge course, mountain-biking and e-biking, disc golf, a climbing wall, and much more;
* 20.5 miles from Hot Sulphur Springs Resort & Spa (natural hot mineral springs);
* 27.5 miles from Devil’s Thumb Resort (high-end restaurants, spa); and
* 30 miles from Winter Park (resort town, restaurant-rich), offering a plethora of activities, including outdoor concerts and music festivals, an alpine slide, mountain-biking, hiking, and fishing.
Half-Day & Day Trips and other things to do:
* River Rafting
* Georgetown Loop Railroad
* Mine tours
* Visit the Breckenridge Troll
* Ziplining
* Summer Dogsledding
* Trail-Running
* ATV, side-by-side and motorcycle trail-riding
People also come to Colorado to see our Aspens in the fall, which turn golden and create a gorgeous tapestry on our mountainsides of dark green pine and bright yellow. The peak season generally falls between mid-September and early October, depending on the weather. Ask us about our favorite Leaf Season drive.
It truly would be our honor to host you.

Acerca del anfitrión
Anfitrión: Dianne and John Hammer
We are residents of Denver, but have always considered Grand County our second home, as we spend so much time here every year. We're originally from Minnesota (hence our Scandinavian roots), but have lived in Colorado since 1993. Dianne is a writer and copyeditor and designed the look for Lakeview Haven's interior. John is in the construction field and did the heavy lifting and creative work to implement Dianne's design. Both of us are athletes -- John is a biathlete and Dianne is former triathlete and loves to open-water swim -- and are passionate about the outdoors. We are parents and grandparents, and consider this home a legacy for our family.
Por qué eligió esta propiedad
We have always loved this area of Grand County and particularly this neighborhood because of its grand views across the lake. We had rented other vacation houses in this area for years and kept an eye out for the gem that would work for us. This house caught our attention because of its views, property size, large deck and good bones. It's one level up from the flats right next to the lake, so we have the good views, but not the difficult access that properties higher up the ridge have. We are remaking the home in a style that reflects our aesthetic and Scandinavian heritage and that will feel comfortable and relaxing for our guests.
Qué distingue a esta propiedad
It's all about the views, baby! Plus we have a design aesthetic that's a little different than the typical Colorado mountain vacation rental. And we have truly curated it, rather than just put furniture and belongings in the house. It's a "home." We are so close to the lake, have a good privacy feel because of the our house's position on our lot and the trees, and have a good amount of parking for multiple guests' vehicles and a small trailer. We are close to highway 34, but not too close, so it's pretty quiet. The opportunities for sports and activities are endless, and there's great wildlife-watching.
