Country home of early Pioneer settlers, updated home on 1/2 acre, easy walking to all the downtown community offers, and 1 block to Porter's Grocery Store. Lovely new Sunroom with view of the Fort Davis Mountain Range. Historic windmill and water tank on property, with plenty of room for parking. Also a nice outside B.B.Q area, lovely Pecan Trees and wide open views. Hope you enjoy sitting outside and gazing at those beautiful star lite sky at night. In July you'll enjoy the fire flys, cool nights, no humidity!

We enjoyed our stay at the house! The views of the sky were so nice and there was plenty of room on the patio to sit outside and enjoy the cool air and stars! We were in-town for Cyclefest and enjoyed all the extra space for our bikes and gear. The house is located close to town and after a day of cycling, we enjoyed eating in town, particularly Rendevous Pizza! The hosts were very responsive to all of our communication and we appreciated everything they did to help our stay be nice!

Ft Davis Trip

Enjoyed our trip. The house was clean and comfortable. Convenient to Davis Mtn State Park, McDonald Observatory and town. Suggestion - A fire ring would be a nice addition.

Perfect Location

I stayed here with my daughter, niece and sister. We loved it. The location was nice, great fenced yard. The house is very roomy and well appointed. It was so cozy. Minutes from Davis Mountains State Park. Would definitely stay here again!

Trip to Fort Davis

We had a fantastic time at this home. Great location. Walking distance to the fort, grocery store, ice cream shop. Everything worked as described. Would definitely return.

Nice place with lots of space

Great place for anyone with pets (Fully enclosed fenced area) or no pets! House was great, 4 full bedrooms, tv, plenty of space, fully stocked kitchen...

Big Bend Trip

We enjoyed our visit to Ft Davis and Big Bend. The house was large and met our needs. The neighborhood around the house was a little rundown. We enjoyed the Ft Davis Drug Store and two Mexican food restaurants. Thanks John

Fort Davis is a small country town, with historic homes like this one, most on large lots where there is much room for parking and enjoying the outside yard surrounding this home with nice fencing. Appreciate guests! John

Great place got family

Seven of us stayed at this home-3 adults and 4 kids. It was a perfect fit for us, four large beds and a bunk bed. There were 3 large screen tvs and plenty of space for everyone to spread out. We enjoyed eating outdoors, Star gazing, playing in the yard, playing games inside and using the Wi-Fi. It is in a great location-walking distance to store, close to MacDonald’s Observatory and Balmorhea State Park pool. Would highly recommend a stay here.

A Gem in the Desert

We went searching for a place to stay rather late for a holiday weekend and hit the jackpot with this gem in the desert! Thanks to John for accepting our reservation and for all the quick communication. Check in was super smooth and the house was absolutely perfect for two families with older children. Plenty of space, a Keurig, laundry, and everything we needed to be able to cook. The beds were comfortable, we slept great and the younger ones enjoyed the bunk beds. We'll definitely book again when we come out that way!

Older home but very clean

The beds were very comfortable and the house was definitely clean. Being an older home, it had a few quirks but John was very helpful. There is no dishwasher. The second shower is very small but we were glad to have it. The fenced in yard was a nice plus.

A nice and quiet place for family and friends gathering

Nice place not so far from Big Bend National Park (1h45 minutes drive) and very close to some hikes in Fort Davis State Park. Grocery store just 1 block away (1 minute walking). Fort Davis also has a very good restaurant (Blue Mountain Bar & Grill). The house is a bit « old-fashioned » but has all amenities (no dishwasher). TV and Wifi working pretty well considering the location. We were 2 families (4 adults, 3 kids) and had a blast for Thanksgiving WE. Definitely recommended if you want to spend a few days in the area.

We booked this house within the last few days with a vacation change. Location was great to everything we did. A couple of points. Heater did not evenly heat the entire house especially bedrooms and when we used the dryer, my son realized after walking into the utility room that it was very hot and he found out that the dryer vent was disconnected completely in the back so he made a temp fix with mop string. Lastly the light was out in the little bathroom area off of the utility room which made it very dark.

Interesting house

Nice owner/manager, always responsive. Could use a deep cleaning, as it has been well lived in with just surface cleaning. The catholic religious icons were a bit much for my jewish friends as well as the political sign on out building. As mentioned in prior reviews, to access nearly every bedroom you had to go through one other bedroom, making it awkward for more than 2 couples.

El Viaje de los Viejos

Clean, conveniently located to lots of activities - McDonald's Observatory, Balmorhea State Park, Ft. Davis State Park, Ft. Davis National Monument, grocery store; some within walking distance. House layout is a little odd. People in some bedrooms must walk thru another bedroom to get to a bathroom. There is only one shower. Located in a quiet neighborhood. Would be great for a family with kids. Hot water was not very hot.

Christmas Vacation

To get to the main bathroom we had to go through a bedroom. To get to 3 of the 4 bedrooms you had to go through another bedroom. The fire TV didn't have a working remote. We had to buy dish washing detergent, paper towels, and washer detergent. The "barn" door between the living area and sun room was not secure and allowed cold air to enter. We have stayed in 4 VRBO homes and this was the worst. I would not recommend it.

The home description states that it's a historic family country home. The missing paper towels and soap is a error by our housekeeping.. We will revisit description to make sure uniqueness and "quirks" are clearly stated about this much enjoyed historic home in rural Texas.

Great time visiting, grouped up in 3 indoor areas chatting away, great kitchen facilites, we made breakfast & dinner onsite for 10 people. Already booked a return visit in the spring

The home was lovingly & enjoyed by our family, whose dad with family made the adobes to build. It is a unique home, with older features, but enjoyable, a new sun room is large and home is unique. The lovely large yard that holds a windmill and rock tank, along with an area to B.B.Q is enjoyed for the outdoors. Plenty of parking on this 1/2 acres. 1 block to the grocery store and three to the Fort.
