What a lucky find! This place is beautifully situated a few miles out of Fort Davis, on the road to Alpine, and its entrance is directly across from the entrance to the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute (must-see place, with good trails, great botanic garden, and adorable "greeter" cat named Stubbs). The High Frontier is an interesting mix of accommodations and event spaces. There was a nice-looking pool and gym area, but we didn't use it. We stayed in the Adobe House, which was beautifully set next to a steep, rocky drop down to a green valley. The scenery couldn't be better, even at night because the area was dark and we could see numerous stars and Milky Way clearly. The house has been renovated, and so is very modern and spacious inside, with Mexican tile floors and the original fireplace (late 1800's). All the appliances and fixtures are new and in good condition. The bathrooms were nicely-done and clean, even had bathrobes and slippers. The manager, Corine, was very nice, and very responsive to the few requests we had. Wifi wasn't working at the house when we arrived, but she got her IT guy out there asap. He was super friendly, even gave us his phone number in case the wifi went out again (my granddaughter was on deadline for summer classes, so the wifi was important). But he fixed it and we had no more problems.Lots of birds and wildlife (blue grosbeaks singing, kangaroo rats along the road at night, and many insects--it is Texas, after all). Will book again.
