PROPERTY OVERVIEW:

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1.25 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

The Nene Nest, Kauai is a classic, sugar plantation- style cottage located on the always sunny West Side of Kauai. Just 152 steps from the ocean, it offers a true Hawaii feel.

Designed with a 'slow' pace in mind, our hope is that you enjoy every part of your stay; sipping coffee on the updated lanai in the mornings with a book in hand, or by relaxing on the beach surrounded by sunshine and ocean breezes on the beautiful garden isle of Kauai.

This charming authentic island cottage was featured in Tiny Homes Magazine and in the 'Love Shacks: Romantic cabin charmers, modern getaways and rustic retreats around the world' coffee table book and we can't wait for you to experience it!

THE SPACE:

Completely restored and remodeled, it features a new fully-equipped kitchen, new bath, two spacious bedrooms, comfortable living room, lanai, bedroom air conditioning and landscaped garden. Its nine and a half foot ceilings, giant airy windows, original crown moldings and wainscoting, original wood floors, and tropical ceiling fans in each room give you the feeling of 'paradise of old.'

THE AREA:

The home is in Kekaha, the sunniest area of Kauai boasting the longest white sand beach in the Hawaiian Islands. This is true Hawaii, away from the tourist-filled beaches and stores, where church services and grocery-store conversations are still heard in the Hawaiian language. Yet great restaurants, grocery, farmers market, shops, art galleries, and great Kauai outdoor activities are minutes away. Kekaha is at the doorway to Waimea Canyon, the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, famous for its hiking opportunities and vistas of the Napoli coastline.

THE PERFECT WEST SIDE LOW-KEY DAY:

Awake for coffee on the garden lanai.
Drive two minutes and take a morning walk on the longest white sand beach on Kauai.
Stop for lunch at the Lodge at Kokee before an invigorating hike in Waimea Canyon.
Wash off your hiking muscles in the outdoor hot shower.
Stroll two doors down to the ocean, cocktail in hand, to watch the island’s best sunset.
Prepare a light supper in the fully-equipped gourmet kitchen.

By far one of my favorite places to stay. I have stayed at the Nene Nest 3x and plan to return annually. Everything about the cottage is perfect!

Melissa was a great host even through Hurricane Lowell. Beautiful property. Wished there was dining space inside as we experienced hurricane winds. Only a block off beach but In remote area with little access to beach due to break wall rocks. Beach area a short distance away

Wonderful rental! We very much enjoyed our stay at the Nene's Nest. Property is very well maintained, peaceful, quiet with very enjoyable outdoor space. House was clean and well maintained. We had everything we needed to cook meals and the space was very comfortable, pleasant. Beach across the street was beautiful, great place to watch the sunset. We would definitely happily stay in this rental again!

The place was absolutely beautiful! It is tucked away with great privacy. It was very clean. The host had great communication. She reached out before during and after pir stay making sure we were having an exceptional stay. The AC worked very well. All in all, it was a great place to rest and relax! I highly recommend!

Great house! Couldn't have slept without the A/C (as a woman of a certain age ) so it was great to have it in the bedroom! Also, the kitchen was the best and most nicely equipped one I have ever had in a rental. It seems like most rental house kitchens fill up with the cast off pots, pans and utensils but this kitchen had great cooking equipment that I was in now way leeery of using!

Nele Nest is an absolutey wonderful Home and has everything you need. The house is located near to some nice beaches for swimming, surfing or simply have a relaxed look at the beautiful sunset’s. It’s a short drive to Wimea Canyon. Our family really enjoyed the stay at Nele Nest and say „Mahalo“ to Melissa.

We stayed at the Nene Nest in July 2026 and absolutely LOVED it! Some of the highlights:* The clean plates, cups, utensils, cooking supplies - the kitchen was well appointed and these items were nice and in great condition.* The air conditioning systems in the bedrooms were clutch!* We loved the outdoor shower and the lanai for our morning coffee and evening dinners.* The wonderful location and walks across the street for beautiful sunsets.* The amazing customer service!* The attention to detail.Everything was great and we felt so blessed to have such a lovely place to stay and enjoy the beauty and culture of Kauai. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Such a beautiful property!!! Being that it was just my 4 yo daughter & it being tucked away off the Main Street, it made for a more safe and secure feeling in such a spacious home. Truly everything and more than described!! The toys & games that were provided were a plus! Super family friendly. The cleanliness of home was immaculate. Highly recommend. Communication with owner, Melissa was very easy & such quick responses. Mahalo Nui Loa to you and your Ohana for sharing such a beautiful space to stay. I would gladly stay here again! Mahalo!

Beautiful house and garden in a good location so we could easily walk to the beach nearby. The host sent us very clear instructions and check in was quick. Beds were very comfy and the kitchen had everything we could possibly need.

What a peaceful and delightful home. The three of us were pleased with the usual amenities, but being so close to a beach was the star. Just be aware that the roosters throughout Kauai will also make it a memorable stay! The hosts are so kind and considerate. Kudos to them for making them home available in such a beautiful place.

Really enfoyed the quiet relaxing atmosphere of the town and of the property. Beautiful property. Nice outdoor shower, used it for every shower. Found great bakeries and eats a couple miles away. Great place to get away from the high tourist areas.

This home is a hidden gem! The house is hidden from the road but consider this a plus. The directions are spot on. The host was always responsive. The back yard is well maintained and private but close enough that you can still hear the ocean waves. Breakfast on the lanai every morning was wonderful. The interior of the house is charming. We had all of the amenities - the hosts went out of their way to make sure no detail was overlooked. The beds were comfortable and it was nice to have lawn chairs and beach towels. Overall, a wonderful experience. If we ever get back to Kauai, we would definitely book the NeNe Nest again.

We absolutely loved our 2 weeks at NeNe Nest! It felt like home and was the perfect sunny spot on the island to explore and unwind!

We stayed at the Nene cottage back in 2013 and loved it! That's why we decided to come back. The location is a little far from the airport but that's the reason we like it here in Kekaha, less tourist and basically no traffic. The cottage has everything you need, from coolers, beach chairs, boogie boards, board games, towels, etc. We did noticed that it's basically the same as 13 years ago so it needs some maintenance, like the front screen door was hard to close among other things. House in Kekaha was perfect; has everything you needed to be comfortable. Communication with host was great. You’re very close to a great beach good for surfing or swimming. The town itself is very small and quiet, but you’re close to Waimea with more dining options, if needed. Would definitely stay again.

In spite of a strong Kona low pressure storm front coming in we enjoyed our time at the Nene Nest immensely. The cottage was what we expected. The listing was accurate. Communication with the hostess was timely. And my wife and I love the more quiet side of Kauai in Kekaha. All in all a very Vacation spot for us.

This is a beautiful little home just steps away from the ocean. It is small but has spacious rooms, is excellently renovated and is tastefully decorated. There is also a fully equipped kitchen, private garden and front balcony. It is truly a gem, a wonderful find and is highly recommended. It was an honour to stay there.
