Información de la propiedad
Famous cottage directly on 100' private shoreline of pristine lake.
Loon Lodge is a fully renovated cottage nestled peacefully among century old pines along a pristine shoreline on an idyllic crystal clear lake in the Belgrade Lakes region of central Maine. It is totally furnished, artfully appointed, with three bedrooms, one and a half baths (second shower outdoors) and sleeps 4 plus. The living room has a fireplace, tv, and lots of games!
Covered porches front and back make for protected sitting areas. An expansive dock accommodates kayaks and sun bathers.
This is essentially a cabin by a lake in central Maine. That means rustic and serene, close to nature, and ready for the basic existence of sleeping, swimming, and cooking. Go to bed with the stars, get up with the sun. eat when hungry, swim when hot, nap when tired, and disregard time and weather. The artfully reconstructed 1908 ice house can be used for reading and writing, crafts and naps. In short, bring very little and commune with the natural surroundings that await. Everything can be found in the village, a 3 mile bike ride away. The rental party should ideally consist of a simple-minded chef, an imaginative watercraft facilitator, an observant naturalist, and a gentle fitness advocate, and perhaps a random, somewhat dim-witted tagalong, capable of playing games and baiting hooks!
Guests will quickly discover why the setting has direct ties to the story of the classic play, and Oscar winning movie, On Golden Pond. The author’s mother spent 90 summers on location here communing with nature in a timeless world of simple joys, only connected to the outside world by the daily mailboat. You will likewise sense the lure of the lake, as the loons call out at dusk and dawn, or as you canoe along the shore to pick blueberries, and compose your own sequel to the underlying inspirational backstory.
The ‘vacation state’ offers additional adventures nearby in the village of Belgrade Lakes: freshly baked bagels and croissants at Hello Good Pie, blueberry pancakes and fish chowda at the Sunset Grille, moosetrack sundaes at the dairy bar, sundries of every sort at Day’s general store, tablecloth dining at the Village Inn, fresh fruit and vegetables at the Farmers Market every Sunday morning, and gift and antique shops on both sides of the only street in town. Two miles away is the Belgrade Lakes Public Golf Course, ranked #1 in the state. Within daily drives are Katahdin and Baxter Park, along with numerous coastal destinations.

Preguntas frecuentes
Acerca del anfitrión
Anfitrión: Paul Thompson
My grandparents were among the early lake dwellers and settled along this remarkable shoreline in 1908. Five generations later, our family still comes here for the special opportunity to experience the closeness to nature, the weather, the serenity, the swimming and boating on endless sand, and the amazing sunsets. Sit inside by the fire, outside on the porch, down along the shore, or on the dock and be at peace with the elements. We have done it for over 100 years. As a retired Naval Officer and College Professor, I wish to share that special experience with those who seek that opportunity to return to the basics of a simple life on a lake.
Por qué eligió esta propiedad
This property is steeped in history and creativity. Anyone who comes here will find peace and the space to think freely and to reflect on more profound times and the greater purposes of living. Get up early, paddle along the shore, walk over the dirt road, and then swim in crystal-clear sandy-bottom water before having a wholesome breakfast on the front porch. Spend the day reading or writing in the hammock, in the Adirondack chair along the shore, or in the studio out back, and discover the powers of the mind, gracefully liberated by the wonders of nature. Create your own Chautauqua, as only you can!
Qué distingue a esta propiedad
Every square inch is shared with nature. The lake beckons endlessly. The sun, the wind, and the water are always right there. The quiet time, from dusk to dawn, is spellbinding. Fun exercise and healthy eating are compelling. Seize the chance to become a minimalist: one change of clothes and a bathing suit along with walking shoes; simple, healthy fare consumed outside on the porch or the dock; a writing pad and a fountain pen; a clear mind reduced to the basics.
