Discover the charm of a quiet, waterfront location. Enjoy sunsets over the water at this lakefront beauty. The cul-de-sac location offers solitude away from busy streets yet close (walking distance) to the neighborhood shops. It's just 1000 feet to the ocean & some the east coast's best beaches - literally a 5-minute walk across community boardwalks. You can reach off-road, 4-wheel drive, beach access one mile to the south.

SURFDANCER is a gorgeous lakefront property with two master bedrooms, a large great room, a well equipped kitchen, and includes a community pool and tennis. The entry level has an enclosed outside shower, fish prep table, storage space for surf- and sail-boards beneath the house, under house entry with concrete driveway, and great parking.

The second level offers a lakefront master bedroom (king bed) with private full bath, a second bedroom with two singles opening to a shaded deck, a third bedroom with two bunk beds, a full bath, and a utility room with large washer and dryer.

The top floor features a second master bedroom (queen bed) facing the ocean, with a private deck and a full bath next to it. Also on the top level, you will find a large vaulted great room with spacious dining area and well-equipped kitchen and deck overlooking the lake. SURFDANCER is the perfect affordable vacation spot!

Great location!

The house was in a perfect location to stay somewhat secluded and still be close to everything. It needs some updates and minor fixes but it was very clean and perfect for what we needed. The owner responded fairly quickly and was very nice.

Family Vacay

We had a great time in Avon. The house is perfectly located where you can walk to the beach, restaurants, pool, tennis courts, and grocery store. There was plenty of space and the decks were amazing to sit on at night and take in the amazing sunsets. It was a quiet and perfect family vacation.

We had a fantastic stay. Glen is a terrific host. Close to beach, fantastic fireworks, AC worked perfectly, pool passes included plus a great view. We will be back!

Perfect in every way!

This is the third year I have rented this property. It is a close walk to shopping, the beach and a short bike ride to the pool. I have three young kids, ages 10, 2 & 1. They can do the walk to the beach just fine. The kayak outback makes for a lot of fun as well! You wont be disappointed with your stay or location.

Excellent Stay at Surfdancer

We just returned from our amazing vacation at Glen's beach house (Four adults and four young kids). The house was spacious, clean, and well-appointed. The central-air worked perfectly, and the house had everything we needed. It was footsteps from the beach, and just next door to the grocery store and community pool. At night we sat on the deck overlooking the bay, which had a lovely breeze and no mosquitoes! Glen was very responsive in answering any questions we had. I would definitely rent this house again!

We rented over the week of July 4th, and had a great time. Our family does a ton of research before selecting a rental property, and we were thrilled over the selection we made (Surfdancer). I was personally struck by the cleanliness of the house. Our single family of five rented the house, but we could have easily shared the house with another family. The location was perfect for us - close to the beach, grocery store, etc., yet away from the commercial feel of Kitty Hawk and Nags Head further north. Highly recommended for younger families.

Love this house!

Really enjoyed our October stay in the house. The owner is super easy to work with and very professional. The house was exactly as expected, clean, great light and great location. Nice walk to the beach and great exercise going up and down the stairs. Like the look of the pool and tennis courts too. We really enjoyed AMs on the front porch and PMs on the back porch over looking the lake. Also, sunsets are a must at the Haulover area right outside Avon while watching the Kite surfing...a premier location on the East Coast! And dinner at Pangea and hanging out by the Pier was also a favorite. Uglie Mugs has great coffee, goodies and art too. Great place and we will be back!

Perfect Location and NO surprises!

We loved vacation spots this year from Assateague Island and it was perfect! Glen was so helpful with everything that we needed to make this an easy transition! My husband and our 8 year old go with our “Framily” friends - another couple and their two sons. Plenty of room for all of us! We love to drive on the beach and it was so easy to get a permit online before we came and the access point was just a few minutes away, as noted. We walked to the beach in the morning for sunrises and it was also just as described - so close! The views from the deck were great. The outside shower was a hit! Plenty of space to lounge and relax and enjoy all the Avon has to offer. We took advantage of proximity to the Farmers Maekwt and got some amazing tomatoes and other goodies for beach dinners & being close to the grocery store stopped us from eating all of the amazing food nearby. But we did try a good number of the recommendations and they were all great! We did notice there are a lot of restaurants not open every day or closed last minute or very long ways, but in height of summer season we’re happy to see business thriving! We found a boat rental about 25 minutes away that was super fun for a day too! And spent some Time at the lighthouse as well. Every question we had prior to check in and once checked in was answered promptly and with kindness. We will definitely go back! Thanks for the amazing memories!

Needs Updating/Better Cleaning

Pros: close walk to the beach. Close to Food Lion and other stores. Good space in the house. Cons: I'm not sure what is stipulated to be cleaned by the professional cleaners, but they may need to expand to more areas of the home, or they need to do a better job. The ceiling fans all had a layer of dust visible that would have accumulated over months, versus days. And the fans were very wobbly when in use.. One bathroom had a layer of dust where the tile meets the wall. It is bring your own linens, but I think you should be your own everything. Two of the mattress pads were visibly dirty, and so I laundered them on a rival. I did not use the blankets provided. Some of the wooden chairs on the decks showed signs of weather rot and seemed unstable. The outdoor screened area had a door with no screen and the screens in the windows were torn away in some places. The TV in the one master allows for connection to Netflix, but the main living room doesn't, so you have to watch DVD or VHS. The cable is a very basic package. There is a vacuum for guests to use but we found it to have inadequate suction. Overall, this house could be nice, but it needs some updating and a thorough cleaning. Also,, the body of water in the back has alligators in it. This can be expected in the South, but it should be mentioned as some people may have their child kayak on the water.

Surfdancer, an unforgettable vacation!

Surfdancer was an incredible location for a family reunion! We are from Phoenix and had family come from Virginia, South Carolina and Missouri. The house was great! The kitchen was more equipped than we had hoped for. We had fresh crab legs one night, used the BBQ another and had an incredible clam bake on July 4th. Can't say enough about the fresh seafood at Surfs Up seafood Market, located in the north end of Food lion parking lot. It was so wonderful having Food Lion so close, along with Dollar General, and a gas station just a short distance south. We really took to being Surfdancer OBX tourists! We loved having the lake behind the house. The kayak was great on the calm water. We saw several deer behind the house walking along the water at sunset and enjoyed seeing the lightening bugs. There were Several day trips to the beach. We saw Bodie lighthouse, Cape Hatteras lighthouse and Okracoke lighthouse. We took the ferry to Okracoke island, had a wonderful lunch at th Jolly Roger and had a ATV tour booked on Portsmouth Island. We were pretty much the only people on the island. We had a wonderful time going up and down the beach and shelling or just playing in the water. We weren't able to get to the abandoned village due to recent rains, but 4 hours of unlimited shelling was fine with us. We found welch conchs, sand dollars, scotch bonnets, olive shells, and horseshoe crabs. Best part was on the boat ride back to Okracoke was stopping at the nesting island for the brown pelicans! It was amazing seeing thousands of pelicans and their babies, just weeks old just feet from our boat. It was a national geographic moment. And to finish off, we went horseback riding on the beach with Equine Adventures. We will always cherish the memories we made at Surfdancer! Thank you Glen for providing such a lovely home away from home! We hope to be back soon.

Surfdancer en famille

Maison très confortable sur rue tranquille. À quelques minutes à pied de la plage. Nous avons surfé au Pier de Avon. Les vagues devant l'accès étaient très bien pour la baignade. Ice cream truck qui passait dans la rue était parfait.

Fantastic

My family and I had a wonderful time at Surfdancer. The check-in was easy and the house had something for everyone. Views were breathtaking and neighborhood was peaceful for a great price. We loved it.

Another Fabulous Stay at Surfdancer

We stayed at this house the year before, and immediately wanted to book it again. The house is great; clean and air-conditioned and well-stocked. It's right on the bay (or some body of water), which means when you sit out on the balcony at night you get the breeze and almost no mosquitos. The location is a few steps from the beach and right next to the grocery store and dollar store for all your vacation needs. Glen is an excellent host and knows how to respond to your text messages, and the check-in was super easy. Highly recommend this house... especially for families!

I'm a consultant in Cancer Research after a long career in medical education and at the National Institutes of Health.
My love-affair with the Atlantic's barrier islands began during my summers as a lifeguard on Assateague Island in Maryland. As surfing developed into a passion, I began to venture to Hatteras Island since it was the ideal water-sports playground in a pristine natural seashore setting. My two sons loved the beach when they were young, and continued to enjoy Hatteras as teens and now, as adults. Avon on Hatteras Island is the anchor where all the generations of my extended family love to get together on an annual basis. And, yes, I am still surfing - with the same crew - in Hatteras!

After 20 years of vacationing in the Outer Banks, I had a pretty good idea of what all of the locations and villages had to offer. The northern part of the Outer Banks is too over-developed to suit me. Avon Village is centrally located, has more amenities than any other Hatteras Island location, and is bordered on the north and south by the beautiful Hatteras Island National Seashore (5 mins from the house). You have easy access to the Ocean and Sound Beaches for swimming, surfing, shell collecting, windsurfing, kite-boarding, paddle-boarding and many other activities. Young families should try the Pamlico Sound for mellow, shallow, no-wave fun - great for younger children. This area is truly unparalleled on the Atlantic Coast and has been repeatedly named in the top ten beaches in the US.
