My family of six (four adults and two children) recently stayed at Grandma's Cabin. The home's layout is excellent for larger groups, with spacious common areas and large bedrooms. The mattresses were comfortable, and the location on the South Fork of the New River is beautiful, especially for fishing, swimming, and outdoor activities. The rental company also deserves credit for excellent communication before arrival and at departure. However, there were several issues that significantly impacted our stay. First, access to the property is via a two-mile road described as gravel, but it is more accurately a narrow, rugged two-track with steep inclines and declines. AWD or 4WD and adequate ground clearance are strongly recommended. Second, the water pressure was extremely poor. We had to coordinate showers and avoid using faucets or flushing toilets while someone was bathing. Even with no other water use, the shower only trickled. Finally, the home's cleanliness fell below expectations. We found stained carpeting, dust on surfaces, and grime on fixtures and appliances. Although the toilets were sealed as "sanitized," one bathroom showed signs () that it had not been properly cleaned. Given the rental rate in relation to the poor water pressure and lack of cleanliness we were disappointed. While the home's size and location are definite strengths, these issues significantly detracted from our experience.
