Pools, Kayaks, Tennis, Golf Cart & Both Island Clubs Included w/Boat Dock Option

Located on North Captiva Island, in Safety Harbor Club, this comfortable home is conveniently located near beaches, pools, and boat docks. The house is nestled among the native palms, and has a private, wildlife-friendly setting you will love. Song birds and gopher tortoises take refuge on the property, and guests enjoy sharing the peaceful sanctuary. Beautiful beaches and refreshing pools are a short walk (5 minutes or less) or a couple minutes away by golf cart (included; see details below*). North Captiva is a bridge-less, car-free island situated in between the coastal barrier islands of Captiva and Cayo Costa. Transportation is provided by scheduled water taxis, private charter, or your own boat. The island has over 5 miles of pristine sandy beaches to explore and the southern portion includes over 350 acres of protected state park land. Golf carts, bicycles, and sandy feet are the typical mode of transportation (shoes are optional).

Guests of Gumbo Limbo will be registered with both The Island Club at North Captiva and the Safety Harbor Club and will have use of their amenities including their 3 large pools, tennis & pickle ball courts, private beach access and use of sea kayaks and bicycles. Through special arrangement with the host, a boat dock space can be rented for a daily fee at the Safety Harbor Club wharf (boat registration & insurance info will need to be provided for SHC). With, or without a boat, guests will enjoy fishing, wildlife watching or enjoying sunrises and moonrises from the harbor docks. In order to provide additional value and convenience to guests, Gumbo Limbo is currently including the use of its golf cart as an amenity for guests (*conditions apply, see details below).

Gumbo Limbo is available for up to 6 guests. The first level of the house includes the living and dining areas, the first floor porches and decks, an outdoor shower, a kitchen, first floor bedroom and bathroom. There is a queen sized bed in the bedroom and a couch with queen size pull out bed in the living area. The second level (accessed by spiral staircase) included 2 full size beds, an attached bathroom with bathtub/shower, and a small outdoor deck (perfect for star gazing or sun bathing). Starlink internet service offers fast reliable internet for guests.

* Golf Cart Details:

1. Golf Cart Use is only offered for groups of 4 or less. If you have more than 4 people in your group, you must rent a second golf cart in order to use the Gumbo Limbo cart. "Boats and Fun", located on North Captiva, offers golf cart rentals.

2. The Gumbo Limbo golf cart, is offered to guests for their transportation convenience (to the beaches, pools and docks). It is not offered as a recreational activity. Cart use should be minimal.

3. Guests who will be driving the golf cart must provide copies of their driver’s licenses and complete a Golf Cart Use Agreement.

Sandy was an amazing host! The house was everything and more, stocked extremely well for all of your beach needs but also your personal needs as well. The beaches are amazing and the club amenities were an added bonus. Highly recommend mainstay for food and icecream! Don’t miss out booking this beautiful house with amazing hosts!

Best VRBO We Have Ever Stayed At

You do not need to look further as this is the best property on this island. Not only is the house beautiful and centrally located, the host thought of every single detail.

The home is one if not the cleanest VRBO we have stayed in. The home was well stocked, host very responsive. This location is what VRBO should be and host Sandy was great.

Wonderful!

Gumbo Limbo did not disappoint. Newly remodeled, perfect size for two people looking for something quiet and close to everything. Hosts were quick to respond and great to deal with. Will stay here again for sure!

Family Vacation

We had a very memorable week at Gumbo Limbo on North Captiva! Sandy was a terrific host and the home was everything we had hoped for and more. Great escape to North Captiva

House was perfectly lovely & well appointed! Super kitchen, baths (++outdoor shower), sheets, towels comfortable furniture & beds! Ideal location…close to boat launch & pools, enjoyed golf carting to beach & playing pickleball daily. Everything was clean, easy & uncluttered! A+ getaway!

Amazing stay

Best Spring Break Ever!!

Magical island property, perfect fit for our family of four. We loved access to TWO swimming pools, the tennis courts, and endless beach exploration. The house was perfectly appointed, well designed, and we felt right at home upon arrival. Sandy is a true gem - quick communication and thoughtful welcome gifts for the fam. Highly recommend - you will make incredible memories!

AMAZING!

Gorgeous home with everything we needed for cooking and beach fun! Really appreciated access to the two clubs' pool and amenities- quite a chilly week so it was great to be able to hit the pool and get out of the wind at the beach. We used Debbie at Fresh Pick Grocery for grocery shopping and delivery, she's fantastic! We will definitely be back, thanks for everything Sandy!

The simplicity of each day was such an amazing break from daily life - no shoes required basically. Gumbo Limbo was by far the most well-appointed property we have rented. The kitchen was outfitted to such a better degree than anything I've seen - kitchenware, pots/pans, blender, ice cream maker, ice maker, the list goes on. Given the need to bring groceries to the island, having a well-equiped kitchen was huge. Otherwise the house was immaculate, well designed and functioned perfectly. For a family of 4 it was just right - not huge by any stretch, but life on NCI is outdoors! Outdoor shower was a huge plus as well. Sandy was super responsive to all of my questions both before and during our stay, can't say enough about the experience from this perspective.Would highly recommend a stay at Gumbo limbo, not one thing to complain about!

Wonderful Rental!

This is a beautiful and well maintained rental property. My kids and I really enjoyed our stay on North Captiva and in this property. Lovely furniture, new appliances, and just a nice space to be in -- lots of natural light and a beautiful setting around it. Owners were easy to work with and made the whole process a pleasure. We would love to come back to North Captiva and would jump at the chance to stay in this property again. Thank you!

We just completed our upstairs renovations so we have an additional space with 2 full size beds and an additional upstairs bathroom as well. Loved it!

What a gorgeous little house on a gorgeous little island! The house is clean, decorated perfectly and has everything you need. The couch and chairs are so comfortable and so was the bed! We loved this little place and had a great week on North Captiva Island. Sandy was so great to deal with and answered every question we had. Favorite part was the sandbar at the beach where you can walk so far out into the ocean and watch dolphins swim by and collect sand dollars! Oh yeah, don’t forget to get a pina colada at Mangos!

North Captiva Island is an important part of our children's heritage. We have owned property on the island and have built 6 houses in the past 23 years. Our previous house was Sea Urchins Beach House along the shore on the southeast side of the runway. Before that, we built 2 other "Sea Urchins" houses in Safety Harbor Club. There we enjoyed all the Club's amenities including its private beach, pool, wharf and boat docks. After our grandson Tucker was born, we decided to downsize and purchase a property in the Bahamas (Sea Biscuit on Man O War Cay, Abaco), but we didn't want to leave North Captiva behind. We wanted Tucker to make some of the same beach-filled, sun-kissed, seaside memories with his family. So we purchased a small existing house in Safety Harbor Club and started the renovations. We incorporated many of the architectural details that can be found in the other houses we built, and overlaid them into an existing structure that was built over 25 years ago. We love the location in Safety Harbor Club because it offers us, and our guests, many amenities and conveniences including the boat docks, outstanding fishing from the wharf, and easy access to the beach (about 5 minutes walk) from the house. We named the house "Gumbo Limbo" after a native tree that is often found growing on top of Indian mounds along the barrier islands in South Florida. The tree grows easily from a branch that gets planted in soil, and our children (now adults) have grown many such trees over the years from branches they found on North Captiva and Cayo Costa. We are hoping our "Gumbo Limbo" , now rooted, will offer beautiful shelter, and flourish for many years to come. We look forward to enjoying it, while also sharing it with guests who want to make their own family memories on North Captiva Island.
