Beautiful restored 130 year old Sea Captain's House on historic Music Street in the heart of West Tisbury. The home was lovingly restored to it's original splendor by the owners, keeping all the architectural details. The candlelight dining room is wonderfully cozy to entertain friends. A spacious screened-in porch allows al fresco dining, a quiet location to read the book you have been meaning to read for the last year but never had time. The bedrooms are bright and airy with shutters and ample closet space. The outdoor shower is great for when you return from the beach. There is a gas barbecue in the backyard and an area for outdoor dining. Ample parking. Sleeps 10.

This was our first time in renting cottages on the Vineyard that we stayed in West Tisbury. We have stayed in various cottages in The Copeland district of Oak Bluffs for 50 years. This was a gamble for us that definitely paid off! We loved the location, the house, the playground across the street, the Field Gallery, Alley’s General store, and the proximity to our favorite beach - Gay Head/ Aquinnah! It was truly a wonderful week, the house was perfect for our multi-generational family!

Well - where to begin? Everything about this house was outstanding. We've stayed here before, so we knew what to expect, and of course we were not let down. The house is terrific - very comfortable for families, kids - absolutely outstanding screened in porch where we spent so much time, and ate almost every meal. Everything is comfortable, the beds are excellent and the kitchen well-stocked. In addition, this is an excellent location - especially for families with kids - no need to drive everywhere!There's a playground across the street, (great!) library around the corner, a wonderful sculpture garden/gallery around the corner (my favorite place on the Vineyard!) and a store with almost everything a great takeout place for breakfast and lunch! AND, to top it all, the owners are wonderful - so easy to work, very responsive. I can go on and on, but I think you get the picture!

We love Music Street. The location is central to all that we enjoy about the Vineyard. Our host was very responsive to our questions. The back porch accommodated the family dinners. The beds were very comfortable. Loved hanging out in this historical home.Awesome stay!

Our return to the Captains House after a few years of staying elsewhere on the island was all that we hoped it would be. It’s a beautiful home full of comfort and charm. Spending time on the large screened in porch, day or night, remains a highlight. In addition, the Ag Fair is in walking distance and access to Lambert’s Cove is a major perk. We look forward to returning next summer.

We just love this home on Music Street and have stayed there before. Everything about it is wonderful - it is so comfortable and tasteful, with everything you need from the kitchen to beach towels! The screened in porch is A - we spend hours and most of our meals there. The location is great - with easy walking access to a store, the library, a playground, a wonderful gallery and more. And our hosts are so responsive and helpful, making it easy from start to finish. I couldn’t recommend it more highly!

Wonderful home in West Tisbury

We had a wonderful stay at Music Street. Bob was a gracious host. The house is amazing. It’s both historically charming and well appointed. We practically lived on the back porch, and access to the park across the street and Alley’s and 7a around the corner was extremely convenient. Highly recommended.

Historic captains home

A beautiful house that is well located next to the Unitarian church and Alleys general store. The screened porch is epic and everything in the kitchen is updated and the beds were very comfortable. It absolutely has the feel of a historic house that has been lovingly maintained. Only comment might be to add more instructions/information in the welcome packet. Would definitely go again!!

Beautiful historic house, best for small groups

I stayed here with a group of 4 adults and we each had our own room, but the bathroom situation was unique. 1 had a half bath attached, one had full bath down the hall, and 2 were in conjoining rooms that had half bath+ basin tub and no shower. The master has a wonderfully firm foam mattress, but does not have an attached bath and is right next to the only true full bath. Every day, most opted for the outdoor shower instead. The historic nature of the house is beautiful, however the electronics (especially dishwasher and oven) are in desperate need of replacement. Overall a nice stay for out of season.

Sadly the last tenant broke the soap dispenser cover on the dishwasher and there was no time to fix it. Regarding the oven which not that new it works perfectly and is always kept clean.

Great Place for Family

Beautiful historic home right in the village of West Tisbury; easy access to the bus station, historic general store, library, playground, and art gallery. We had a slight hiccup with the air conditioning units early on but the owner/property manager was great and it was fixed quickly. One bedroom did not have an AC unit which complicated our stay a bit (child’s room) and the cleaning crew showed up an hour early on the last day (9 AM although check out was 10 AM) and hung out in the back yard until we left at 9:45 AM. (That was a bit disappointing since our flight wasn’t until much later in the day and we wanted a relaxing morning before departing.) Minus that, it was a good property with gorgeous furnishings and a nice back yard. I would recommend staying there when the weather is a bit on the cooler side.

Heavenly 1st Vineyard Visit

Perfect peace in an exquisite home & location. If you seek the comfort of home on MV, you have found THE place. This Music Street home is filled with character & every comfort one could imagine - just as listed. A well appointed kitchen, comfy beds and multiple living/dining areas as well as a serene outdoor space one would be hard-pressed to not be enamored with. And do not miss the opportunity to use the outdoor shower as often as possible! Do bring your own beach items - chairs, towels & the like. Bob & Josh were spectacular hosts, attentive to every need & with provision of thoughtful suggestions. We enjoyed many area walks including Menemsha Hills Reservation & Nat’s Farm as well as the dining at State Road. Grey Barn was a lovely place for a number of pastries, cheeses & wonderful raw milk. This perfect location made it easy to enjoy the entire island. I am already planning a next visit!

Music Street Delight!

Wow -= what a wonderful time we had during this stay And this was our second time at this house - so we knew excatly what to expect, And it was even better!! This is such a wonderful and welcoming house - just so easy for our family. The location is terrific - especially with young children - the playground across the street, the wonderful library around the corner, a great place (7A) for breakfast food and perhaps my favorite place on the island - the Field Gallery!! Having stayed there before, it was so easy to settle in - but since we were there, there were many renovations/improvements- including the kitchen and master bath And the screened-in porch is fantastic - we all spent so much time there - meals, playing, perfect for rainy days, too!! But perhaps the icing on the cake is that the owners, Josh & Grace, were a pleasure to rent from - at every step of the way. They are so responsive, helpful and truly couldn't be better landlords. So I give this house and our stay an A+++

Beautiful home in the center of West Tisbury

This wonderful home in the center of West Tisbury was everything we were seeking this summer and more. The house is so spacious, we spent different times of the day in different rooms. The kitchen, with washer and dryer included, is a perfectly working kitchen to whip up any meal, and then enjoy it on the totally awesome screened in porch. As a family we spent most mornings and evenings sitting on this porch. A private back yard garden provided a place for us to play, and the outdoor shower was perfect when returning from the beach. Sitting in the center of West Tisbury we were a direct shot to all of our favorite destinations - Edgartown, South Beach and Menemsha. The street is walkable and bikeable, and the offerings of the various daily markets across the street made life even better. Alley's General Store and the bakery 7a behind us, as well as the library and art galleries, playground and an island bus stop and gas station, provided for everything we needed. The buzz of this local town was so fun to be a part of on a daily basis. Wonderful yoga studios are near by, as well as some relaxing drives to pick up some local honey, produce or totally delicious sandwiches and pizzas. The house was clean, airy, private and safe. It had all the amenities needed for daily life. The owner was 100% available at all times. We totally appreciated our month of July at this house. We would highly recommend this house for a lovely vacation of rest, relaxation, fun and adventure.

Central Island Location

We very much enjoyed our stay and had a very positive experience overall, especially the large screened porch became our go-to place to relax, enjoy evening cocktails and dinner. The house has plenty of comfortable space inside and out even for large groups. The only drawback was that the lighting on the porch is very minimal; indeed we temporarily moved one or two table lamps from the inside to the porch so that we could read and see our food :-) There are many board games and an endless supply of books. Our host even allowed us to take a few home and send back once we finish reading them. The kitchen is equipped well with pretty much everything one would expect . Contrary to the description there where no beach chairs and beach towels. Our host quickly remedied that by dropping a few off the day after we asked for them. However, there where a couple of things that didn't impress us. One thing especially we didn't expect: only one bathroom has a shower, and it is not very spacious due to it being inside a free standing bath tub. It was described correctly but we didn't notice and didn't think of asking before booking. The outside shower, however, is wonderful - and the weather was still warm enough for it to be used comfortably. The mattress of one of the queen beds clearly has seen better times. We found it uncomfortably soft and worn out in the center. Also note that the downstairs bedroom has no closet. We didn't use it but it's good to know especially when booking with a larger group.

Thanks for the info very useful as we do not often hear negative comments from tenants, we will replace the offending mattress see to better lighting on the porch. Sorry about the shower indoors but it is what it is, in the bathtub and the house was built in 1876 and we don't believe in building "A trophy" modern bathroom that does not suit the house. There's a closet outside the door for the downstairs bedroom and also an ample chest of draws in the room. We went to remove the beach chairs and beach towels years ago from the listing as they get trashed, these have now been deleted from the website.

Wonderful house in a great location! Our family really enjoyed staying here. It felt like home away from home - the beds were comfortable, the kitchen was stocked with basics and beautiful dishes, the living room was cozy, and the sunporch was perfect for game nights. We loved being able to walk over to 7A and Alley's. Josh was an attentive and kind host. We're looking forward to returning next summer!

Historic House in Great Location

Having grown up in classic old home, this property really appealed to me. The large, screened in porch overlooking a very nice lawn was also very appealing. Having spent years coming to the Vineyard, I also appreciated the convenient location and its accessibility to all points of interest on the island.

Excellent rustic accommodations

We came to the island for a few family memorials, and hosted two post-event large-ish evening get-togethers at the beginning of our stay. The weather complied and the lovely and capacious screened porch, dining, and two living rooms enabled several small groups to congregate pretty well.. The house is outfitted for a party- with lovely and plentiful (non-plastic!) serving supplies, glassware, flatware etc. which was very happy-making. The art and unpretentious, yet elegant furnishings create a very homey, comforting environment. The kitchen was a pleasure for collaborative cooking - there we found everything we needed to cook great multiple daily meals for our group. Our only recommendations would be to 1) improve lighting (particularly in the waning summer, early fall, with the earlier darker evenings); and 2) provide more comfortable seating for 6-8 people in the communal living/dining spaces. It was impossible to play games, hang out comfort or read in the two sitting rooms in the evenings with the minimal lighting. Likewise, the full bath upstairs needs additional lighting-it would particularly make the room safer for older folks. That said, we made do quite nicely and loved our stay. Would definitely return!

Great West Tisbury location with lovely screened-in porch!

Our family (5 adults + 1 dog!) enjoyed our stay in this West Tisbury home. Great location -- close to Long Point and Lamberts' Cove beaches, as well as some great walking trails -- and we loved spending time on the large screened-in porch.

Best of Both Worlds

Our second annual stay in this property that is just as listed & in our opinion, supremely located. While it’s difficult to want to leave the perfect screen porch, one can easily get anywhere on island from this hamlet. English fashion photographer who discovered the magic of the Vineyard whilst on a fashion shoot in the late 70’s moved permanently to the Island 5 years later. In those days travel was so much easier for international assignments so the island was the perfect retreat from the madness of the fashion and rock and roll business. Worked for most of the great fashion designers, Vogue for many years, numerous album covers including a dozen for Carly Simon.
