Historic One Room Schoolhouse

Relax with the whole family at this peaceful historic one room schoolhouse built in 1903 situated on 13 acres. It was originally built as a Sunday School room but was later used as the community schoolhouse. Two original blackboards are still in the main room, along with numerous children's carvings on the original walls.The schoolhouse has been updated with a kitchen, bedroom, 1 1/2 bathrooms and a large wrap around deck. The headwaters of the Dan River can be seen and heard from the deck.

We had a wonderful stay at the Schoolhouse. The positive reviews were spot on. It was very clean, well appointed and you can tell the owners put a lot of effort into making it an unforgettable experience for visitors. It was a perfect getaway for some peace and quiet. The location is beautiful. We will be visiting again!

Loved the schoolhouse! It was clean and cozy. The owners thought of everything including flashlights in case the power went out (which we needed). The host was awesome too! Due to a serious rain we thought we might have to extend our stay. Host said to stay as long as we needed and was planning on bringing a generator and extra fuel to the house so we would have power, which was incredible. The county had the road cleared in a couple of hours so didn’t need the generator but the offer was greatly appreciated. Between the cottage it self and the host could not ask for a better experience. Will definitely be going back.

The cabin was cozy and also felt very spacious. We loved sitting out on the porch as well (the weather was fantastic). There was plenty of ice in the freezer, which was nice. We were driving up and down the mountain visiting family in Carroll County, and it was a fun & adventurous drive. It was fun being in the valley. We enjoyed our time in the cabin.

Old Schoolhouse Charm

As a retired educator I loved the old fashioned schoolhouse charm of this property. The house is cozy and comfortable with ample indoor and outdoor games and options. The mountain setting is peaceful. It is definitely one I hope to book again.

Awesome schoolhouse!

We LOVED this vacation home! We would love to go back and spend a week. The mountains were so beautiful with the leaves changing colors. The schoolhouse was cozy and so comfortable. We loved being able to have drinks in the evening on the deck. We had such a wonderful time. We highly recommend this vacation location.

Peaceful place!

Larry and I had a wonderful stay at the little schoolhouse. We were close to Mt. Airy "Mayberry" and it was quite simple to travel between the house and town. We spent a lot of our time sitting on the front porch, looking at the beauty around us, and just enjoying downtime from the everyday stresses of life. Everything was clean and well cared for. There were snacks and drinks to help us get settled in. We will definitely be coming back!

Short Get-A-Way

This truly is a gem. This old school house had everything we needed. This area is somewhat remote, but we still had access to WiFi TV and a phone. BBQ grill was great while we enjoyed watching Humming Birds and listening to the Dan River. The river was teaming with trout by road access. We look forward to returning.

Had a great time there. Wanted a quiet and serene place and it definitely was all I expected. Host was very helpful and even chummed up with a few of the neighbors while there. Overall I'd highly recommend.
