Enjoy the classic simplicity of a traditional Door County cottage vacation, away from the stresses of everyday life. An unplugged Travel Green destination, the cottages have no television or wi-fi but offer a quiet setting where you can have a campfire, read a book, cook a meal with fresh local products, play board games and relax. If you do need to connect, most cell phones work with data and there is wi-fi at the coffee shop a few minutes walk from the cottages.

Terra Cottages is located near the tip of the peaceful northern Door Peninsula and a short walk from the little fishing port of Gills Rock and a 5 min walk from the new Mariners Park on the shores of Green Bay. Northern Door County is a favorite destination for kayaking, fishing, hiking, cycling and swimming with it's many parks beaches and hiking and biking trails.The excursion boat to Washington Island, Charlies fresh and smoked fish, The popular Shoreline restaurant, and the Door County Maritime Museum are among the things that make Gills Rock a special place to stay.

We are just a short drive from the rugged, unspoiled beauty of Newport State Park, a semi-wilderness area offering hiking, swimming, and nature activities. The many performances, restaurants, galleries and shops throughout Door County are also easily accessible.

While staying with us you take one of the regular fishing charters that leave the village daily or enjoy a crossing on an excursion boat across the beauty of Death’s Door Passage to Washington Island, the oldest Icelandic settlement in North America.

Very quiet and relaxing surrounding

Sophie is very welcoming and readily available for her guests. Well stocked kitchen essentials. Also firewood and charcoal provided. We very much enjoyed our stay

Nice cottage in Gilles Rock

It was accurately described. Bathroom was tight, but expected. Loved the location! Bedding and beds were comfortable. Sophie was quick to help and communicate.

Perfect Romantic Getaway

We stayed in this cottage for our anniversary. The location was perfect for spending time together without the hustle and bustle of every day life. We chatted with the other couples staying in the other cottages over coffee or drinks at night. Although the weather didn't cooperate for many outdoor activities, we were able to find enough things to do in the surrounding areas. I would highly recommend staying in this cottage!

1st Anniversary

Just a wonderful little group of cottages. We loved our stay , except my wife would get up at 5am to start the coffee going cause it took a hour and 45 minutes .lol our dogs loved it too. Thank you for letting us stay in your wonderful place. Kevin and Joann

Enjoyed our stay.

We enjoyed our stay, cute little cottage in a quiet area! We had 4 adults and 2 dogs for. 3 night stay. There was some fuse issues and we lost hot water for 2 of the days but personally wasn’t a big issue as it was warm out the cool shower was refreshing.. If you stay in cottage 1 with a dog they may find some rawhide bones my dog hid in the brush! I would love to stay again in the fall!

Ellison Bay

We enjoyed our stay. Easy, pretty location, simple amenities, clean and the owners were available if needed. We didn’t need anything. We were welcomed by fresh flowers, a cherry pie, and chocolates. It was a nice friendly touch. I would rent again. Thank you!

Cozy, Clean little cottage

We were looking for something away from the hustle and bustle of DC yet close enough to have a short drive to parks, fish boils, orchards, Washington Island, etc. This place was the perfect location. We loved the little touches - cherry tart on our arrival, fresh cut flowers, and lovely lavender scented soaps. We also loved that we could bring our little dog with us. Sophie was very responsive when we had a question about an outlet adapter and promptly sent her husband with something (most of the outlets are not grounded and therefore couldn't handle a 3 prong plug). We definitely would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet getaway!

Cute little cottage

We enjoyed our stay in cottage #2. It seemed to be the smallest of the 4 cottages, but for the 2 of us it was fine. With the limited seating, I wouldn't want to stay there with 4 adults, and if you're a reader, the lighting is not great. The only real problem I had was with the 2 rather large steps up to the front door. I have knee issues (hope to get a new knee soon), and those steps were high. A railing along at least one side would have made a big difference. The kitchen seemed well stocked, but we didn't do any cooking, so I can't comment too much. We did spend some time on the patio and that was very nice.

Getting Away from It All - For Real!

This was the perfect antidote to crazy, hectic, city life. The cottage fit our needs to a T. There is no wifi, and I could not be more thankful for being forced to really enjoy my time without the stressful parts of my life interrupting. The cottage was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, the bed was comfortable, and we really appreciated the green products and organic coffee that Sophie provided. Nothing fancy, but also nothing more than we needed, either. Very comfortable. While not exactly on the water, In the evenings, you can walk up to the point to watch the sunsets (amazing!), and we found this location to be perfect for exploring upper Door County. If you are someone who loves the outdoors, Rock Island is not to be missed. Also, Newport State Park has wonderful trails and views, and the Door Bluff County Park is a beautiful place to explore. Peninsula State Park is also beautiful, and allows for a way to drive and see the views without the hikes, if that's your preference. The Shoreline Restaurant was not open while we were there, so we recommend Fireside, where we had great food and service that wasn't too far from Gills Rock - one of the owners is from Louisiana, so the food is authentic. Other great places were Greens and Grains in Egg Harbor for great sandwiches and wraps as well as a natural food store, Stone's Throw Winery, Door County Distillery, Door County Brewing, and Simon's Creek Winery (if it happens to rain). Gills Rock Coffee is terrific, if you don't feel like making your own, and Charlie's Smokehouse has fish to purchase to grill out. This was an unexpected gem of a vacation for us, and Terra Cottages was wonderful.

Close Quarters

This place is a bit too small for our family(two adults, a 1.5 year old, and two dogs). It might be good for a couple but we found it much smaller than expected. The doorways and hall opening are short so if you are close to 6' you will have to duck. The shower was tight but the worst part was the curtain didn't have magnets and was constantly touching you which is something simple managment can fix for the future. The cottages are also very close to one another which is not ideal if you have a dog that barks at people/other dogs or a young child that goes to bed early. We had one bedroom with a "queen" sized bed that was much shorter than a full. My feet were hanging off and I'm 5'5".

Fantastic Weekend in Ellison Bay

This wonderful simple cabin is in a wonderful location. A quiet street that is easy to bike on. A 5 minute walk to a public park to watch the sunset, and easy access to parks and beaches. Sophie was a wonderful host and provided perfect instructions to access the cabin and had great suggestions of nearby places eat, swim, and hike. The cabin had everything we needed and was incredibly comfortable. Our dog was very happy with the spot too! We look forward to staying here again. Thank you again for everything!

Just Right

This is a peferct cabin for a quiet stay in Door Co. We loved it. We had everything we needed plus a cherry tart to welcome us. No TV and limited phone service was a perfect break. The cabin is aged with charm.

Perfect getaway!

We enjoyed the peaceful quiet pace of northern Door County very much. The cottage was perfect for our needs and Sophie is a great host, answering all my questions promptly. There is no wifi or tv and we didn't miss any of it a bit. There aren't many places to walk to but the drives are beautiful.
