Access the best of DC’s sights with a short walk to the Petworth Metro, the 14th street bus, or hop on a scooter or e-bike stationed on our block. When you return home, go back in time with our “Class of 1981” Galaga/Ms Pacman arcade game and a little table tennis, or fast forward with Gig speed internet. A five-minute walk takes you to Rue Café for coffee, Safeway or Yes! for groceries, or Rock Creek Park...the Smithsonian National Zoo is a short bike ride away. For dinner choose from neighborhood Mexican, Vietnamese, Salvadoran, Laotian, Persian, Malaysian, BBQ or “fancy” southern fried chicken. This spacious and clean lower-level apartment in a house has 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, full size washer/dryer, a full kitchen and private entrance accessible with a code.

This VRBO was extremely clean and so convenient. It was close to all the things that we wanted to do. We appreciate Oates all the special touches like the snacks that were left for us, the k cups and the games! Great place for a family and convenient to the Capitol. I would definitely stay here again.

Great place for a stay in DC

The host was a wonderful communicator and the place was comforrtable and cosy. It had everything we needed for our weekend visit to DC, including coffee!

Excellent vacation and sightseeing homebase in DC

My wife and my two kids stayed here this week and we're delighted to find this property clean and inviting. We were able to see the sights in DC and are thankful we found this place. We highly recommend it to you.

Wonderful time

Fun for the kids, and the best stocked bnb I've yet to have! Very hospitable hosts. And very nice to patronize a local community member, rather than a bnb corp!

Great Stay

Cozy downstairs apartment, clean, comfortable, with street parking nearby. Great stay and communication with owner who lives upstairs. Would love to come back on next visit to D.C..

Great place - location and kid-friendly!

A week of visiting DC with 3 tweens made this a great place to stay. When I was tired and ready to go "home" the tweens were excited to return to the games and friendly space! Close walk to the metro, even in the unseasonably cold that we experienced.

Great place to stay. Clean and well kept. It was as discribed. Quiet for the most part. You can hear a normal amount of noise from above during the busy part of the day, just like most apartments.

Host was great. He was very communicative, checked in occasionally, and was very accommodating. The reason for my rating has to do with my own comfort. While the listing did indicate that it was a lower level apartment, it didn’t specify that there was an entrance from inside the house. So there were stairs leading to the house and though no one entered, it was a bit unnerving to know someone could just come downstairs at any moment. The ceiling was also very thin, so when they would awake in the morning, you heard every step. Essentially when they woke up, you woke up if you’re a light sleeper. Unfortunately, the thermostat was connected to the house and heat rises, so while they had to have the air conditioner pretty high to combat the heat, I was freezing. Host was kind enough to turn it up, but it was still pretty cold. I closed all of the vents and toughed it out. As all of the other reviews say, the apartment was clean and they had very nice amenities. It was very cozy and felt like you were visiting friends and staying in their extra space. For the price, it makes sense. Location is amazing as they are centrally located next to everything and it’s really easy to use public transportation or a car. This is a great place for anyone just popping in and out. I was pretty much dumped by my college student for the weekend, so I was there a lot, which is not the intent for a property like this. Great for families.

Check in/out were smooth, with good communication from the owner. Unit was clean and appreciated the full size washer and dryer, as well as the provided pans and utensils so we could prepare some meals. Close to public transportation (2-3 blocks from either the metro or the bus). Bed was quite firm, which was good for us, but something to be aware of. Would definitely stay again. Thank you!

Mom and Daughter stay

We had a great time here! Close to the Metro, Safeway, and Dunkin!! Easy to check in and out. The place had everything we needed. Also, due to the yucky weather there was an umbrella that was hanging on the hook in the kitchen!

Great communication

What a great stay. Communication with the host was great. Entry was easy and the apartment was clean. This property is about a 10 to 15 minute walk to the Metro, which will get you anywhere in the city.

Great DC apartment

The apartment had everything we needed for a short stay in DC. Carl was great and checked to make sure everything was ok and offered local tips. The apartment is conveniently located with a 10 mins walk to the metro. My kids loved the arcade games too!

Excellent host and convenient location

I stayed here while at a convention. The unit was clean and cozy and had everything you might need. Just a 10 min walk to the Metro Green Line and a Safeway. Carl was an excellent host, very responsive. I highly recommend it.

Great Place to Stay

The apartment was great. Very clean and inviting. Carl was great throughout the entire process. He answered all the questions we had and helped us with the parking permit. 10/10 will rent again!

Great Place!

This was a great spot for my two teens and me when visiting DC Area. We arrived later at night than expected and it was easy to find. Super comfortable and nice to be within a short walk to the Metro station and to a grocery store. Carl was helpful with suggestions for dinner spots. This was a convenient location if you are visiting the area for Smithsonian Museums and other tourist spots. The neighborhood was quiet and overall it was a great experience.

Perfect apartment for touring DC

This apartment worked perfectly for my teenage son and I. It is about 4 blocks from a Metro station, so very convenient for getting around the city without a vehicle. It is also 3 blocks from a Safeway. The apartment had everything we needed. We made good use of the ping pong table and arcade games. Bed and sofa bed were comfortable. Neighborhood felt pretty safe as well.

Great stay in DC

Property was as listed, very clean very comfortable. Carl was an excellent host, very helpful and quick to respond. Parking was no problem.Loved having a washer and dryer. Apartment was quiet, no street noise. As noted there was a little bit of morning noise above us, but nothing you wouldn't expect from a Downstairs apartment. We felt completely safe and comfortable in the neighborhood.

Good Short Stay for Me

Everything was as it said in the description. It is in the basement so there are some low ceilings. If you are over 6' tall you may need to duck. It was within a 10 minute walk of the metro green line.

Great for the price!

It was a bit further from all the tourist attractions than i realized but that is my fault for not checking the map before booking. My husband, 11 year old son and I shared the space and it worked for what we needed. The bathroom was a little small for 3 people to share each day and the couch in the livingroom that converts to a bed is the only real seating in the place. We could have used a few more blankets and bed pillows but we made do. It’s cozy and quiet. Metro is super easy to get to…it is for sure an up and coming area.

A fabulous stay

Carl was an amazing host from our first contact with him. He offered advice about biking as a family, and really went above and beyond to help make our visit a success. Instructions for arrival and check in were clear. We easily walked to the train and buses, nearby Bikeshare, stores, restaurants, and playgrounds. The apartment is cute and comfortable. The kitchen is well outfitted and we could prepare most of our meals at home. My family loved the arcade game, ping pong table, and books and games. We would love to return when we visit DC again!

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at Carl's basement apartment for a combined work trip and vacation to DC. The space was more comfortable than a hotel room, at a lower total cost than most. Carl was very proactive about providing helpful information and checking that everything was OK. Although we didn't take advantage, a pingpong table and video arcade game added to the charm. It was within a reasonable walking distance to restaurants, groceries and a metro station.

Nice little appartment

The appartment has everything you need. The pictures and description are very accurate. Before arriving, Carl was very helpfull in getting a parking permit from the city. He also asked us if we needed anything else during our stay. Even though Carl's family is living upside, it was not disturbing at all. The ping-pong table and the arcade game was very fun to play. Thank you Carl!
