Cozy cottage in woods, 5-min walk to ocean & town

The "Knollette" is a fully equipped cottage with a large grassy field tucked away in the woods on a quiet, private lane. Walk 5 minutes and you will discover the causeway at Norwood Cove - a spot that offers wonderful vistas of the ocean & mountains; dramatic tidal activity; opportunities for swimming, SUPing, canoeing, kayaking; peaceful sitting spots; and spectacular night skies. Walk 5 minutes in the other direction to the center of Southwest Harbor, a small quaint town where you will find shopping, dining, art, crafts, a bike rental store, and a wonderful public library. You'll also find access to the Island Explorer, the free shuttle to all parts of MDI and Acadia National Park.

Acadia National Park is a playground for walking, hiking, biking, swimming, boating, and picnicking. Explore scenic ocean trails, carriage roads, beaches, mountains, lakes, and nearby islands. There are also opportunities to rent boats of various sizes; play tennis, pickleball, or golf; antique hunt; visit museums and art galleries; eat ample fresh seafood; and more.

Perfect Cozy Retreat

Lovely, peaceful stay

Cottage was immaculate and supplied with everything that we needed for an enjoyable and comfortable stay. We also appreciated that the area was quiet and within walking distance to the water and beautiful views.

Quiet location in Southwest Harbor

We enjoyed our time at the Knollette. The location was perfectly nestled in the woods, very close to the causeway which was great for exploring yet close to town. The house had everything we needed and was very clean. We would stay again.

Vacationing during a hurricane

The place was beautiful and the very helpful to our need while our home was having a hurricane in Florida. The host went way above what he needed to do to make sure our stay was joyful. I would recommend this place to everyone.cottage had everything you could think of you would need

Perfect Location

The Knowlette is ideally located within walking distance of Southwest restaurants and shops. The Causeway at the end of the lane makes for a great morning or evening stroll to observe the dramatic tidechanges.

Cottage in the woods

Great location. Loved the dark nights, yet easy walk into downtown Southwest Harbor. The cottage was nice, with all of the basic necessities. Enjoyed views of deer trekking across the property daily, and even a fox or two.

Loved our stay!

We absolutely loved the location and the 2 bedroom cottage was cozy yet spacious. Close proximity to many great hiking trails around Echo Lake, and just a 20 minute drive to the carriage trails in Acadia National Park. We would definitely come visit again.

Perfect spring getaway

The cabin was the ideal location for our family of four to spend a beautiful and quiet week exploring Acadia. The setting is so peaceful and the cabin had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We especially loved the proximity to the water via a short walk down the road. Adair was so helpful with questions and information ahead of our trip. It was a wonderful experience overall - and we very much hope to be back again sometime in the future.

Perfect Cabin in the Woods

We had such a lovely time at this cabin. Couldn’t ask for a better location, secluded street but close enough to walk to many things in town. We saw deer every morning and every evening in the field beside the house. The cabin itself is fully equipped with anything you could need. Beds are comfortable and the fire pit is such a nice added bonus. Will definitely be booking again.

Beautiful cottage, awesome location!

We absolutely loved our stay at this perfect secluded cottage. We did not want to leave, there is so much to see and do within a short distance. Great location close to trails, shops, food and more. This place has everything you could possibly need during your stay. Can’t wait to come back!

Terrific location to walk to water, harbor, and into town. Place is comfortable and has good kitche

Ken was very responsive to inquiries. Home is secluded, quiet, yet close to hiking, shopping, and good restaurants within walking distance.

Our stay at the Knollette

Fantastic cottage. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!! We plan on returning next year!! Only complaint is the driveway was a challenge with a van. A couple of trees really need to be taken down.

Cozy house to launch your Acadia adventure!

This house is cozy and well appointed with everything you need to feel home away from home. We loved being able to walk to MDI BBQ (the best!) and Beal's lobster, and it was close to Echo lake and many great Acadia hikes. Our host included many nice touches including everything you need to prepare meals or pack snacks, fresh cut flowers, and was a great communicator.

Home away from Home

Lovely property and amazing hosts. It was like walking into your grandparents house (according to my teenage kids) .. we had no complaints! There was nothing we felt was missing for a spectacular stay. The house is a short walk into town and an easy drive to anywhere on the island. The locals we met were all friendly and welcoming. We picked Maine on a whim and could not have had a better vacation! We hope to come back and bring our family!

Perfect quiet side getaway!

We loved the location of this cabin! It’s located on a private drive on the quiet side of the island and is just a 5 min walk to the nearby causeway, which was perfect for morning and evening water views! It was also just a 10-15 min walk to town for dinner and shop. We even saw deer almost every day in the backyard and even saw a coyote twice.

Perfect Getaway

I loved this 2 bedroom 'contemporary cabin' the bedrooms were roomy with good closet space. The large main room has tons of windows and was well laid out and comfortable. Everything worked! The kitchen space was lovely - it's a real kitchen with real kitchen stuff. Location is perfect - walk to town, or Beals lobster pier, walk to the causeway, you could even take the causeway and walk all the way to the IGA for grocery shopping if your inclined! And all the rest of Acadia is a short drive away. Super peaceful and quiet as well.

Our family has enjoyed MDI since 1937 when great-grandparents built the Knollen, a large wooden house on the property. Since then, it has been a treasured gathering place for our large, multi-generational family. During the summer, family members often live in the Knollen while renters enjoy the smaller house (the Knollette). During non-summer seasons, we live in Washington DC, Denver, and Copenhagen, though those of us who have flexibility in our schedules are increasingly enjoying visits during the fall, winter, and spring, too.

At the base of South Causeway Lane is Norwood Cove and its little footbridge (the causeway). This cove offers expansive vistas of Somes Sound and sweet spots for daydreaming, reading, sketching, painting, canoeing, kayaking, SUPing, fishing, and picknicking. Around high tide, adventuresome folks jump off the bridge and body surf under the bridge. At low tide we enjoy exploring shells, stones, and shoreline marine life. Meanwhile, our peaceful property is a lovely place for playing on the field, exploring the woods, making fairy houses, and observing deer.
