Relax at Water's Edge - Amazing, Beach Home - Low winter rates Dec - Apr

" Your mouth drops open and you become speechless, upon entering this beautiful house and property! We had a very relaxing stay. Extremely comfortable and well stocked with absolutely everything you’d ever need for cooking or enjoying the beachfront home!" Highly recommend. (June 23 review).

The beautiful Ranvik Beach House offers you a front row seat on the SW edge of the Salish Sea to enjoy a private time of retreat and relaxation. When you first walk through the front door and experience the serenity of this spacious, fully remodeled mid century modern beach house, you will feel at home. Expansive windows reveal Admiralty Bay against the majestic backdrop of the snow capped Olympic Mountains, the picturesque ferry crossing and spectacular sunsets. Open the French doors and breathe in the fresh salt air.

Ranvik is the place you have been looking for where you can walk a sparsely populated beach, touch your toes to the water, or sit on the deck only a few feet from the bay to watch the otters, eagles that nest nearby, porpoises, sea lions, seals, loons and a variety of other waterfowl. Some of our guests have seen whales as well or have caught salmon from the beach. Those who want to work from home are offered hi speed internet (250 mbs, eeros Mesh WiFi) and several places to set up “shop” without losing that view.

Now step back into the interior to relax in the bright, airy great room with its large gas fireplace and high ceilings. Interior walls have shiplap creating a beach house/farm house vibe. The large water view kitchen with quartz countertops, modern appliances and everything you need to produce your favorite.. Three spacious bedrooms with king beds have premium linens. Two separate sleeping wings have updated baths and provide separation and privacy. In two of the three bedrooms you will wake to ocean views. The main bathroom has a soaking tub.

Start your morning at the coffee bar. Hot chocolate available for those cool days or evenings when you want to sit by the fire and watch the waves and wildlife. Whether you dine inside or grill outside, Ranvik’s ambience is world class and your favorite foods and beverages will taste even better here! If you don’t feel like cooking you can take a short drive to wonderful restaurants in Coupeville or other nearby villages on Whidbey. Then finish out the night with some great stargazing from the lounge chairs on the deck or roasting marshmallows in the large fire pit.

Ranvik Beach House isn’t your average vacation rental! Rather it is an amazing beloved beachfront family home named after the Ranvik family which means “bay of the ravens” in Norwegian; we follow many generations of Scandinavian hospitality. This home is available on a limited basis for savvy vacationers who want a “world class experience” (in the words of our reviewers). Over the past 12 years, Ranvik has received over 200 Five Star reviews from satisfied guests.

Whether you're a couple looking for a quiet, romantic two day getaway, a family of 7 looking for the perfect spot for a week long vacation and Island Adventure (kids love it here), or an small executive team looking for a quiet retreat spot, Ranvik Beach House can meet your needs.

Thanks to the Rainshadow your chances of enjoying some sunshine here Oct through May are about 75% better than along the I-5 corridor! Due to this drier climate and over stunning coastal areas, it is an ideal location for Winter activities such as beach walks/ hiking, golf, bicycling, wave watching, or simply exploring the interesting villages and eateries. What great reasons to consider booking a few days at Ranvik Beach House during the winter months! A sense of peace and tranquility plus numerous adventure opportunities make Whidbey Island the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate any season of the year. In the Winter, the sun shines here more than anywhere else along the PNW coast; when it doesn't the storm watching can be spectacular! In between storms, It is a ideal time to enjoy relaxing, hiking, biking, and walking along the island's beaches and scenic trails without summer crowds. Pick a date and book now for your next, best getaway!

MOBILITY CONCERNS: Our home is single level with 36" wide doors. All steps into the house have railings except 4 steps in the concrete walk to the house. An alternate entry is available through the garage where there is a ramp (steeper than ADA regs) with a handrail. The walk-in shower has a 4" curb, no grab bars. The tub has a 15" side with 1 grab bar inside. If you have concerns about mobility, please feel free to ask.

NOISE ALERT: 95% of the time this is a very quiet area. About 5% of the time (weekdays only), the Admiralty Bay area may experience jet noise from the jets at Whidbey Naval Station. This is true for all of the Admiralty Bay area. More details below.

AREA ACCOLADES: Everyone loves Whidbey!
Ranked 3rd Best Island in US by USA Today readers 2014.
Sunset called it one of the "20 best Island Escapes" 2014.
The New York Times identified Whidbey Island as one of the 5 best places on the planet to visit and nearby Oak Harbor was named Washington’s “Safest City” by the National Council for Home Safety and Security.
Travel & Leisure’s Most Romantic Summer Destinations July 2010 issue featured Whidbey Island as one of their 16 picks world wide: “Though it’s only a 20-minute ferry ride from the Seattle suburb of Mukilteo, this island oasis feels like the Pacific Northwest’s last frontier—a lost-in-time place of towering Cedars and sparkling coves overlooking Puget Sound.”
"Whidbey Island - The closest place to far away"
" Coupeville & Admirals' Cove - The sunny side of Whidbey"
"Whidbey Island, so Magical you need a Ferry to get there!"
http://www.seattletimes.com/life/travel/worth-the-trip-soul-nourishing-vistas-at-ebeys-landing/
The area is known as "The Sunny Side of Whidbey" thanks to 1/3 less rainfall than most of the Pacific NW coast. A twelve month 'Sunshine Study' in 2010 & 2012 demonstrating the dramatic effect of the Rain-shadow on # of days of sun and rain. Here are some highlights:
•Winter (Nov-Jan) saw 5X as many "mostly sunny days" in the rain-shadow vs. Seattle.
•Winter saw only 1/4 as many "dreary days" in the rain-shadow vs. Seattle.
•Spring (Feb-May) saw the highest number of 'rain-shadow' days per month, at nearly 8! During the summer most days are sunny days.
• Coupeville received 20" of rain compared Seattle's 36".

Thanks to the Rainshadow your chances of enjoying some sunshine here November through March are about 75% better than along the I-5 corridor! Due to its drier climate and position over stunning coastal areas, it is often an ideal location for many Winter activities, such as beach walks/ hiking, golf, bicycling, wave watching, or simply exploring. What great reasons to consider booking a few days at Ranvik Beach House during the winter months!

It is also called "The closest place to far away" & for many residents of the Washington I-5 corridor you can get away on a single tank of gas!

Seattle King 5 TV viewers nominated Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve as 'Best Hiking Trail; Best Place to Watch a Sunset; Best Picnic Spot; Best Bird Watching'.

Sunset Magazine has named the Coupeville to Port Townsend as "one of the 5 best ferry rides in the Northwest."

Ebey’s Landing is billed in local guidebooks as one of the best hikes in Washington. 'This 5.6-mile trail, just five minutes from Coupeville, with mostly dry trails year round, far exceed the expectations of many visitors.'

Noise Alert: 95% of the time this is a very quiet area. However ~5% of the time, weekdays only, people in the Admiralty Bay area may experience jet noise when the jets from Whidbey Naval Station practice carrier landings on the Outlying Field 2 miles north of the house. Flyovers typically last 1 to 2 hours. Occasionally they last up to 6 hours and continue for an hour or two after darkness. These flyovers are sporadic; we have no way of knowing when they will occur.

If you have noise cancelling headphones, we suggest you bring them just in case.

Please realize that ALL homes along Admiralty Bay - and indeed much of the northern half of Whidbey - are subject to this.

Most of our guests have found it really interesting to get a close up view of these fantastic flying machines. A few have found them to annoying, especially after 10 pm (very rare).

If this happens while you are staying at Ranvik Beach House we suggest one of two options:
1. Stay inside and wait it out. It isn't terribly loud inside. We have ear plugs each bedside table for guest use. These mute but don't eliminate the sound.
2. Hop in your car and enjoy some of the other wonderful spots on Whidbey for a few hours.

Chances are that you will not experience this. However, if this would ruin your vacation, you should consider renting in some area other than Admiralty Bay / northern half of Whidbey Island. Please understand that we have no control over this and thus cannot offer any sort of refund or compensation to guests who experience flyovers.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us via the VRBO inquiry tab if you have any questions.

We are a retired professional couple who love the natural beauty of God's creation & enjoy quiet relaxation, biking, hiking, fishing, and travel. Our 1st remodel was on Whidbey Island in 1975 and we've built and remodeled several more in Bellingham & Seattle, and now again on Whidbey. This architecturally designed, well built home is a unique, true gem. It was a joy to revitalize it. In the process we added a touch of Cape Cod giving it a more cozy feel. The name Ranvik is Lisa's family name in Norway which means "Bay of The Ravens". We appreciate art and architecture & this house offers some of both. It was designed by a Seattle architect in 1964 as his family vacation get-a-way at the height of the Mid-Century Modern era. He developed the Admiral's Cove which includes a mile of beach. He had his choice of any building site in Admirals Cove on which to build his signature beach home. This site was selected for its outstanding orientation to all the breathtaking natural beauty and has the largest beach frontage of all the surrounding homes providing an extra measure of privacy. It is one of only 3 homes built by Sellen Construction (one other one on Whidbey & the Bill Gates' home!). They also built the Amazon headquarters in Seattle. The house reflects the state of the construction art at the time with a wonderfully timeless, very functional beach vacation home design. The interior is very unique with beveled ship-lap interior & exterior siding and many interesting, angular corners and spaces. Our total interior remodel between 2012 & 2022 maintained the home's original, unique character while incorporating the convenience & comforts of a modern home. The tasteful update is in a cozy, bright, contemporary Scandinavian style. We continue to make small improvements as needed. We and our guests have found this to be a magical place for relaxation and enjoyment. We believe that you will have the same experience while staying here.

Por qué eligió esta propiedad

There simply isn't a nicer, better located beach house in the Coupeville area! Don't take our word for it; read our rave reviews. Ranvik is located in the Olympic rainshadow. The result is 1/3 less rain and 30% more sunshine than most of western WA, OR and lower BC. It is appropriately referred to as the 'Sunny Side of Whidbey'. Perfect spot for outdoor activities. Whidbey Island has been designated a state tourist 'Culinary Destination'! The close and very quaint towns of Coupeville and Freeland offer many excellent dining options from basic fare to gourmet dining. There is great shopping and spas for extra relaxation. Several wineries are close to the beach house with a wineries tour map available at the house. Having spent many years living Whidbey, we are very familiar with the Island and can assist you in gathering current information about tourist sites, outdoor activities, restaurants and special events on Whidbey Island. If your idea of vacation & relaxation involves physical activities such as walking on the beach, fishing, biking (road or mountain style), day hiking, golf, kite flying, diving, kayaking, boating, or swimming you will find a great place to do any of these within 15 minutes of the beach house. There is seasonal salmon and steelhead fishing from shore August - March. Ebey Historical Preserve, Fort Casey and other sites feature a wide variety of interesting places to explore. A near by public pool, basketball court, volleyball lawn and a freshwater lake are within steps of the house and are available to guests.
