A home away from home, warm and wonderful in North Park, #13 on Forbes' list of the 'hippest' neighborhoods in the US. The feeling and ambiance of 1926 historic Spanish 'Villa Barajas' is both warm and modern.

The Bungalow Suite (#3317) is a large one bedroom, 1 bath, which sleeps 4 using the comfortable pull-out sofa in the large living room. Newly renovated with high quality finishes and cheerful eclectic style -- Mid century meets Deco meets vintage and reclaimed. Sunny, colorful, and casually elegant.

Beautiful original hardwood floors and large wood windows, cafe style eat-in kitchen, restored vintage stove with griddle, top line appliances, washer and dryer in suite, central heat/AC, deep Euro tub/shower in large, Deco style bathroom. Small private patio with bistro dining for two outside front door. New furnishings and backyard with grill, dining, ping pong table and lounge chairs.

We also provide amenities -- K-cup and French press coffee makers, beach towels, blow dryer, iron/ironing board, luggage rack, books and games, shampoo and conditioner, shower gel, hand soaps, other essentials. WIFI and smart TV -- Stream your Netflix and Pandora while you relax or enjoy a light meal in the suite.

We have a 500 mbps WIFI network in the unit -- nice and fast -- and 4 other networks in the building, all of which are accessible to all guests, so it's pretty much bullet proof service if your unit's network happens to go down.

Spacious grounds with gas grill, ping pong table and delightful seating areas. Walk a few blocks to Balboa Park, restaurants, cafes, golf, community pool, tennis, recreation. 5 minutes to downtown -- Little Italy, The GasLamp Quarter, Seaport Village, Convention Center, the famous San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park and museums, Old Globe Theatre. 10 min to beaches and other major attractions, including Coronado Island and Seaworld.

Are relaxing time in San Diego

We had an excellent experience. The owners were amazing. The place was neat and clean. The neighborhood was very nice and very close to a lot of action, that is , positive action. If we visit San Diego Again we will certainly search for this rental.again, We will certainly search for this rental.

A fe w problems this time unlike prior stays

We were disappointed this time. The cleaning was haphazard...streaks on glass table and mirror. One light out over bathroom sink. Bed is getting saggy. Dryer filter was filthy and a fire hazard. The bathroom vanity is nicked and chipped. The towels need a good bleaching.Upstairs neighbors were very noisy. We come to San Diego at least once yearly and would like to return to a unit with no upstairs neighbors and would appreciate your advice as to which unit that would be.

Perfect Getaway

Clean, modern and comfortable, this place was a perfect spot to stay to visit lots of great sights in San Diego while being able to get away from the craziness whenever we wanted. Very responsive to questions.

A Perfect Fit for our Stay!

Everything as promised. Location so convenient! Walk to restaurants including a wonderful smoker/BBQ just 3 blocks away. Short drive to Balboa Park and the Zoo and access to highways to all other attractions was simple. There was always a parking space at the rear and shared outdoor space was rarely in use by others. The apartment was roomy, bright and cheery with hardwood floors, fresh paint all around and modern remodeled kitchen and bath. The pullout sofa was equipped with a good quality inflatable mattress and there was ample room including closet space for our 2 weekend visitors. Our 3 week stay couldn't have been more comfortable!

Beautiful, as pictured. Great location!!

Our visit to San Diego was amazing. The unit we stayed in was just as pictures show. We were surprised by the patio space...perfect for morning coffee and evening cocktails. Our 11 year old son enjoyed playing ping pong in the courtyard a couple nights. We had an issue with the folks staying above us with two little kids. Crying all hours of the night and running from one end to the other, from the time we got back in the evening until late into the next night. Baby would drop bottle or toy onto floor (I’m guessing that’s what it was) over our bedroom, all night. The father would yell and it was chaos up there. This was a huge issue since we had early days. Getting a hold of someone while staying at the property was difficult. I sent several text and called both numbers I was given. I finally sent emails. Once Beth saw we had an issue she remedied the situation without hesitation. The way Beth handled everything was top notch and we will definitely be back. Another thing, our unit had not been cleaned so we had to leave for four hours after a long day of traveling so housekeepers could take care of this situation. An inconvenience but again, Beth took care of us and we could tell this is not normal for their properties.

Great Stay

We actually were moved to stay in the unit above this one (prior to arriving). The owners were very responsive and helpful. The apartment was clean and had nice, natural light. The inflatable sofa bed was a bit cumbersome to set up- we ended up leaving it set up in the living room the whole time instead of folding it back up and dealing with that every day. Our son enjoyed playing in the back yard area. The location was great for getting to Balboa park and walking around North Park. We didn't have an issue with parking or noise.

Location is great. The place is clean and fit our family's needs.

We enjoyed our stay for the week. It's not an opulent kind of place but it checks all the boxes. North Park has a lot of great restaurants, better in our opinion than the bigger downtown/gaslamp options. Location is convenient as the zoo and seaworld were 10 to 15 min away. It's an older building but updated well. It's not insulated well b/c there are so many windows but the heater and a/c kept it comfortable. Parking was always available in the spots off the rear alleyway, and sometimes is there in front as well.

Comfortable, Clean and Cozy

My wife and I stayed here while attending the Breeders Cup, going to the Zoo, Balboa Park, etc. For just the two of us, this place was fantastic. Super Clean, everything worked well and was as advertised. Zoo and Balboa Park was a 5 minute drive, the the suburb of North Park is walking distance. I can't remember the name but there is a bar-b-que place that is a 2 minute walk. They open at 6pm, and close when they run out of stuff. Go early if you want the brisket...we went at 6:30PM and stood in line for 45 minutes...this is a must do! That is part of the charm of this place; somewhat funky decor and great neighborhood haunts. Only negative is the parking and for those of us in the midwest, a friendly reminder of how to parallel park!

We couldn't ask for more!

The apartment was nicely appointed, very clean and very quiet. The bathroom appears to be new and was certainly more than adequate for our needs. Decorated in white subway tile, the bathroom was spotless. The kitchen was well laid out and completely equipped. These is nothing to keep you from preparing three meals a day, although we chose to go to a variety of restaurants in the immediate area. There is a nice assortment of places to eat, many within walking distance. Street parking is somewhat limited, but we never failed to find a parking place close by. Only once did we use the property's own parking space, which is located in the alley behind the unit. Most of the time we parked right in front of the unit. This North Park unit was a refreshing change from the over priced, dingy and barely cleaned hotels we have used in the past. I'm definitely a Home Away supporter and next time we are in San Diego, we will most definitely try and book this unit again.

Wonderful location for hitting all the San Diego sights

The property is exactly as described - lots of windows for natural light, very clean, well appointed and great location! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! One note - with other VRBO properties we've rented in Hawaii on various islands, Florida Keys, Seattle the term"communal pool" indicated the pool was part of the complex but we were far too busy to miss having use of a pool. Their is a neighborhood pool close by.

A great home base for our family's stay in San Diego!

My husband and I recently stayed here for a week with our two daughters, ages 1 and 3. We absolutely loved the property and couldn't have had a better home base! It is clean, well-stocked, and close to everything. The owners were very friendly and responsive when we had questions and they also provided a high chair and pack and play for our youngest daughter. Having everything we needed made our vacation so much easier and more enjoyable. We would highly recommend this property and would return!

Great Price, Great Location

Villa Barajas was a near perfect spot for our family of 3. Close to so many things, very nice neighborhood, and well taken care of. If you like craft beer, there are loads of small breweries close by. Property manager was very helpful when we mistakingly locked ourselves out the first day. Only issue was that the upstairs tenants were loud, walls were very thin, so sleep was challenging.

Wonderful stay!

Very clean apartment! Lovely and charming place that is very spacious. Nice quiet neighbourhood. Close to Balboa Park. Took Uber there to visit museums and do some hiking. Groceries and good restaraunts in the area. Great breakfast place a few blocks away at Cardamon Cafe and tasty pizza place on Grim street 5 blocks away.

Relaxing!

My husband, little girl and I stayed here in December and we had such a great time! The place was very clean, accommodating and had all the essentials we needed during our stay. They even provided a pack n play for our little one to sleep in. Lots of restaurants, shopping, bars and etc within walking distance of the house. Matthew was always quick to respond and provided great customer service! All in all we had a Great stay here, and I would highly recommend staying at Villa Barajas! The Walkers

Perfect stay in San Diego!

This is a perfect location for visiting the city - it's central to all of the "must sees" in San Diego. The property is clean and spacious and has a wonderful backyard to sit and have a cup of coffee in the morning. There was plenty of convenient parking. We were able to connect to the Wi-Fi easily and cable TV was also available (although we didn't watch much TV). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return. We would highly recommend this place to anyone who is planning a visit to San Diego.

Cool place in a cool neighborhood

We just completed a second stay at this apartment, and we will book a third for our next time in San Diego. The North Park location is ideal, a fun place to walk around and admire the bungalows and gardens of the neighborhood, as well as convenient to walk to a newsstand and get the Sunday Times. Also, there is easy access to the freeway(s) for getting north, south, east, and west. The apartment itself is immaculate with a kind of retro look to it. It is roomy and comfortable. Communication with the owners/manager is easy, with punctual responses to any questions we had.

very clean and comfortable

This property was perfect for our needs. We stayed a week in San Diego and were looking for something clean and convenient and this property was just perfect. If we ever went back to San Diego, we would definitely try to stay there again! It was clean, and there was a backyard area where there was a ping pong table, an outdoor grill, and places to eat outside, which we did almost every night we were there. The beds were very comfortable and it was decorated in such a cute way. Very nice place.

Feels like home

Villa Barajas is situated in the lovely North Park neighborhood. The neighborhood is quiet with lots of young active families taking advantage of the proximity to Balboa Park. Within a couple blocks you can sit at an outdoor cafe for breakfast, get delicious tacos for lunch, and have a number of dinner and outdoor evening drinks options. Within a short drive you are at Trader Joe’s and Ralph’s for groceries. I was always able to park on the street in front of the property during the day. If I was coming in late, the property’s private alley parking was a life-saver. Upon entering the unit, I was immediately filled with a sense that I was home. The attention to detail is something you only get from very caring and conscious homeowners. Every part of the home is well thought out to provide a stress free stay and perfect for a couple-month business stay or short vacation rental. There is high-speed wi-fi with redundancy, distilled water for the iron, and Meyer’s natural cleaning products just to give a few examples. The vintage stove, farmers sink, and colorful Italian glass in the kitchen transport you. The living space is not only decorated in a modern and very visually appealing aesthetic, but is also functional and comfortable (which is where many other vacation rentals fall short). The yard gets wonderful morning light for lounging and is private from the neighboring properties. Villa Barajas is truly a gem.

AND WE ARE 5 MINUTES FROM DOWNTOWN AND 10 MINUTES FROM FABULOUS BEACHES!

This building is thought to have been owned a century ago by a nearby historic church and resided in by church members or out of town visitors. It is a beautiful building and stands out as regal, yet simple. This combination of simplicity and beauty attracted us. Additionally, we were inspired by a European vacation where we found quaint older buildings renovated with a mix of Asian, modern and European touches that made our vacation more enjoyable. We wished to pass these feelings on to others.
