4th floor walk up

The location is great—close to Broadway and subway and food and shopping. But this is a classic small NYC apartment. And you have to walk up 4 flights of stairs to get to it. There were two of us in a small bedroom, so saying it sleeps 6 is a stretch. There is one small bathroom with old fixtures. The fridge has no icemaker and had no ice cube trays (it does after we bought and left some). We had to ask for extra trash bags and paper towels and a dish rag. We had one small bath towel each. There is no dishwasher which is fine but without a dish towel or a drying rack, it is not easy to wash and dry dishes. Again, this is a classic small apartment in NYC so we did not expect fancy appliances. But we did not expect to have to ask for the basic things needed to do dishes and wipe off surfaces. Communication about access to the apartment in advance was slow.

Fake address

We arrived in taxi and the sign on the door of building we were told apartment was in has a sign posted by NY city building department that the building was UNSAFE ! It was locked! We definitely had the right address from listing BUT the actual apartment was 2 blocks away! My grandson panicked because he thought I’d been scammed ! After frantic call to listing person, got a return call with new address and PIN to access. Not sure why they provide a fake address? Short term stay legality? No permit? The place itself was what I’d seen online. Very basic - the comforter for sleeping on couch was a lumpy mess that hardly acted as a blanket. I asked the host several times why the wrong address 354 versus 404 w 40th. No answer

Garment District Apartment

The toilet needs a new flapper and leaked. There was a slow drain in shower. The coffee cups were dirty (we washed them). The hallways were dirty. There was no light in hallway to see to open the door at night. We had to use our phone flashlights to see the keyhole. This problem was reported but the bulb was not replaced during our stay. The apartment was crowded with 3 people and the description said it sleeps 6. The extra beds were blow up mattresses and there was not enough floor space even for one of them. Bed linens had stains on them. We liked the central location. We did not really mind the 4th floor walk-up that was not mentioned in the description. It is not handicapped accessible and it was difficult to get our luggage to the fourth floor and back down.Fortunately, we did not did not stay at the apartment much because we were out enjoying NYC.
