Context matters, so here's ours: we paid luxury holiday pricing for Pelican Beach Lodge for the July 4th week, 2026. The year before, we paid half for a comparable home on nearby North Long Lake — a true 10/10.The house itself is excellent. Photos are accurate, beds are comfortable, the setting is quiet, and the front-yard beach is stunning, with sand running more than a hundred feet into the lake. Pelican Lake has great clarity, good fishing, and sandbars. On the property alone, this is a beautiful place. The problem is management and value. We asked about renting a pontoon (offered in the listing) back in January — no reply. We followed up in May and got a 5% discount code to a vendor already sold out for our week. We scrambled to rent one for five of seven days, then arrived to find the owner's pontoon locked to the dock, not for rent. On top of that: a moldy shower curtain, burnt-out lightbulbs, ratty, mismatched towels, garage-sale-grade kitchen gear, no firewood, kayaks without paddles, and a grill that lit only one of three burners. At half the price a week, this is a 9 or 10. But at Four Seasons prices, I expect a first-class experience — and the frustrating part is that nearly every issue is cheap to fix, if the management company cared.
