GUESTHOUSE:
* Enchanting cottage in Brookings, artistically designed to be a serene retreat for guests seeking a peaceful getaway. Faces street (>250' away from curb) driveway, coastal pine woodland, gardens and play area.
The guesthouse itself is a separate building detached from the host's main house with a dedicated side entrance 50 steps to the oceanside nature preserve trails to the beach.

Your private guest entry is through custom iron doors into a great room featuring a grand wood-plank cathedral ceiling,
The artist Adele spent four years attending to details such as incorporating live-wood ledges, benches, table and countertops inlaid with rivers of obsidian and pebbles collected from the seashore.
The great room features a practical kitchenette with the latest features in new appliances such as two induction cooktops, quality cookware, mini pizza/toaster/air-fry oven, minifridge, etc. A 9' custom cedar console table behind the couch allows the chefs to feel part of the action.
A 65" smart tv is set up with a new high quality leather ottoman sofa that converts into a comfy queen sized bed or family entertainment pit.

Adele designed the three-tiered loft space (and all her kid-friendly fun features) for her own grandchildren. Guests in the loft feel like they are sleeping in a Pacific Coast forest, Sheer curtains and blackout curtains offer privacy and napping ability, A high-quality toddler and pet gate allows parents to confine the loft space as appropriate.

More conventional private sleeping is provided by the antique queen bed under a wooden cathedral ceiling with icy rock-effect walls.

The bathroom is equipped with a luxurious black-glass and teak steam sauna that can be set for up to an hour of pampered comfort as well as a quick shower after your hikes through the local redwood forests, your private beach and local amenities.

12+ steps from the guesthouse you will find a dining and play area, under the Red Cedar coastal pines. This guest-exclusive area also features a flame genie, propane BBQ and two giant cable reel tables with eight stools. A 60" disk swing is set up in a casual native landscape. Horseshoes and cornhole equipment are stored between tables for fun.

Adele's husband Rich, aka the poet Kaibab, has spent his lifetime collecting rocks and nature specimens (including tons of petrified wood, lava rock and driftwood) that Adele has artistically rearranged on their property, inside and out. Spheres are her trademark that you will often see tucked into her garden driftwood sculptures as gazing balls throughout your strolls here.

We had a wonderful stay with Adele and Rich. Our family of 4 had plenty of room in the guesthouse. The house itself is designed to be comfortable and inspiring, and it is. We appreciated the artful touches. The property has incredible views and access to a beach that is simply one of the best I've ever spent time on. The tide pools are teeming with life, the beach was basically untouched as it is a long hike from public access. The only footprints we saw were own own. And possibly some deer and a raccoon. Our hosts were very kind and sincere, they were responsive and helpful to any questions we had. We had some great conversations during our stay and we are looking forward to our next visit.

I have dedicated my life as an artist and designer to making the world a more beautiful place.
This is my latest creation.
After a tragic ski accident six years ago (from which my husband is still recovering mobility) we purchased this awesome oceanfront property that also needed a lot of TLC.
1.6 acres with two sorry buildings on a wild oceanfront bluff overlooking the famous seastack rocks and beaches of the Samuel Boardman Scenic Corridor.
My first mission was to open new vistas and pathways leading to the Mighty Pacific through dense ferns and myrtle forests. I was experienced with steep landscape rehab after 20 years in the SW Colorado Rocky Mountains. The ocean and underground streams on this cliff present new challenges and always will. I work with Nature patiently, learn and grow. This is a work in process 6 years into development.
I did not want to disturb the cliff using heavy machinery so hand labor was required to clear or preserve individual plants and croppings, while cutting wide trails through the forest, adding staircases with handrails, gardens and decks along the way.
Meanwhile I remodeled both buildings with unique personalities befitting their service. One is our modest main house that features a lifetime collection of art and nature elements.
The other, which I offer to guests, is a converted poolhouse, in which I reclaimed old lumber from the original 40's building and added stone, pebbles, live-edge wood treatments repurposed to make new memories to share with my family and friends and now yours.

Por qué eligió esta propiedad

Brookings is a hidden gem of the Oregon Coast. Due to the Chetco effect of several rivers combined with the Pacific Ocean our micro-climate is often referred to as the "banana belt." We enjoy moderate temperatures year-round, never freezing and rarely above 75 degrees. Definitely out of the way, so it takes some effort. Worthwhile because you are travelling the most scenic coastal highway in the U.S.
The last port in southern Oregon, Harbor is famous for great fishing. From crabbing to Ocean charter adventures. Mighty rivers converge and offer other fishing and sporty adventures including kayaking.
Brookings has a laid-back vibe with plenty of great restaurants and ample shopping. The music and culture scene includes free Sunday concerts at Azalea Park and many festivals in the summer. Culture continues with artwalks, gallery shows and live theater available year round.
And the beauty of nature, here oceanside.... presents fresh drama year round, Changing every day, with the season, the winds and the tide.... in a climate that never freezes or gets too hot.
