Architect and dreamer Earl Young created a magical world with his unique and eccentric stone cottages in Charlevoix. Half House is absolutely one of the most adorable homes you will ever see! Now you can experience it for yourself. Enjoy the sandy beach, lighthouse and breathtaking sunsets just outside your door. Half House is an easy two block stroll to the quaint village of Charlevoix for shopping, dining, marina, ferry, drawbridge and music in the park.

Everything you will need for a comfortable vacation is included: luxurious cotton bed linens and towels, firewood and kindling, free wireless internet, books, music, Roku smart flatscreen TV with streaming channels and DVD player, kitchenware, beach chairs, plus an endless supply of hot water! Not to mention the spectacular view of majestic Lake Michigan! This cozy two bedroom home accommodates four guests quite comfortably. Relax!

Sorry, no pets allowed. Please note that Half House has no central air conditioning. The earthen stone structure and steady cool breeze blowing in over the cold waters of Lake Michigan keep the home comfortable. We also provide fans in every room.

perfect for a family

we loved our stay in this condo. the first floor meant easy access to everything outside. there were some issues with the internet that were taken care of immediately.everything we needed was there (i would suggest adding a baking sheet to the kitchen items). the whole place was very clean and i am very picky about that when my grandkids are staying,too!we enjoyed take out meals from "the caboose" around the bend.as it happened, our flights home were canceled and we needed to stay another night. i sent an email inquiring if we could stay one more night and had an almost immediate response that we could. that was a huge help!i would not hesitate to stay here again. thank you for sharing your piece of paradise!

Charming piece of Charlevoix history

Can I give 10 out of 5 stars

We rented a two night stay as a gift for our parents 55th wedding anniversary. Over the years they have loved traveling. However, in recent years, my mom has become quite a homebody. This turned out to be the perfect gift to celebrate their milestone. Mom loves the story and charm of the home, and it was very clean. The furniture was exceptionally comfortable, which is important for my dad’s back. They brought in some of their own snacks and a pizza and spent a relaxing time just enjoying being in the house. It had everything they needed. They loved just sitting in the living room, in the comfy chairs by the fire, watching the squirrels and looking at the lake. And my mom could not stop commenting about what a great location it was. It’s very close to the ferry launch for Beaver Island. There’s a wonderful walking path just across the street. There’s some nice shops close by. She told me all the wonderful things they could’ve done while they were there, lol. But they decided to just spend the days in the comfort of the house, enjoying the views sitting by the fire and eating their pizza in the evening. They watched YouTube shows about the mushroom houses and read about the homes in the books provided in the house. I cannot thank you enough for putting together such a wonderful place to stay, in such a beautiful area. Maybe when we send them back for #56 they may even visit some of those shops ;) lol.

Bucket list stay

We have been interested in the Earl Young houses since we first discovered them on a day trip to Charlevoix several years ago. So I was excited to find that one was available as a short-term rental. The inside did not disappoint; it was cozy, quirky and a fun experience.

Perfect Location

We had a great time during our stay. We were able to walk to about everything we wanted to do. We found several Petosky stones on the beach too! The house is definitely small but one does not need much. It was a wonderful experience.

Wow! What an Experience

My mom and I stayed for a long weekend at half house. What a great place. It is very cool to be able to stay in an Earl Young Mushroom House and we were so excited to see inside of one of these iconic homes. The location couldn’t be better. It is right across from Lake MI and walking distance to downtown. It is so cute inside, very clean, incredible fireplace and comfortable beds and furniture. The host, Bill, was very accommodating when we had questions and communication was fantastic. There are tours that come by home and many people stopping to take pics. My mom and I stole someone else’s great idea, brought hobbit feet slippers, elf ears and flowery headbands, sat out front and waved to/chatted with many tourists taking pictures. So many were excited to hear they could rent the home and I think they all should!! We loved every second of our time there and Bill is a wonderful host. We would give this house 100 stars if we could.

Anniversary Trip

The house was adorable! The weather was perfect. We loved having a view of the lake right outside our window. We would stay there again! There is so much to see and do. If you’re looking for a good breakfast spot, we loved Smoke on the Water. It is just a short walk from the house.

Mushroom Magic

Such a fun stay at this architectural treasure perfectly located overlooking Lake Michigan and near some of the best restaurants. The opportunity to actually spend a few days inside one of the famous Mushroom Houses made us feel like celebrities. Thank you to our host for recommending Terry’s for a special occasion dinner. So good! Weathervane, Castle Farms and the beach walks were our favorites.

Hobbit House Holiday

It was great to stay in one of the historical Earl Young Mushroom Houses. We took full advantage of our week there, exploring the Charlevoix area. Great location, view and well kept property. It is the first stop on the Mushroom House tour, so there is the paparazzi, with the house being the celebrity. Other than that, it was a great stay.

Hobbit House

Our stay at Hobbit House was magical. It was exactly as described with many wonderful surprises. The owner has everything stocked as if you’re in your own home. We look forward to returning again. We particularly enjoyed the delightful response from tourists walking by when we greeted them on the front lawn wearing our hobbit ears.

Quant and cozy Half House

This unit is best suited for those under 5'-10". The ceilings are 7' and doorways between rooms about 72". It's as quaint and cozy as it gets. Comfortable bed, cozy living room, tiny kitchen and no dining area (TV trays in the closet). With all its shortcomings we loved it!

Magical stay

We had such an incredible stay at the Half House -- it couldn't have been better! Bill was an excellent host, both with communication beforehand and with the amenities and condition of the property. The house itself is so charming and well catered for. We were two adults and one young child, and the set-up was perfect. We were able to sit outside one evening with warm temperatures and have a wonderfully cosy the next chillier night. The amenities were spot on and we didn't even use everything on offer, as everything and more was catered for. I would highly recommend this charming house for a wonderful getaway.

Wonderful!

We thoroughly enjoyed our brief two night stay. Property was clean, considerately stocked with everything a family might need… bandaids, Benadryl, toms of pots and pans, various kitchen appliances, beach towels, lifejackets, coolers, etc. It was very clear that this host had thought long and hard about what was needed to make his guests feel welcomed and comfortable. This is obviously an incredibly unique home, location was ideal, close walking distance to the beach and downtown. Felt like a celebrity with so many people stopping by to view the home… but everyone was respectful of the property and our privacy. Five stars, thanks so much Bill!
