Please be our guest! Sandy Shores has been in the Hall family for over 60 years, and is currently owned and operated by Myrtle Hall. Myrtle is German-born and moved to Indian Rocks Beach in 2000 when she married her late husband, Ned. Ned’s grandmother bought the Indian Rocks Beach property in 1946. Ned's father George Hall built the first, two-story building in 1952. The one-story Gulf Cottage followed in 1972. Ned's family lived here in the winter, and spent the summer in Ithaca, NY, where his father was the Golf Coach at Cornell University for over 40 years. Ned followed in his footsteps as a PGA Teaching Professional for over 25 years. He was teaching at the Clearwater Golf Club located in Clearwater, Florida when Myrtle, in Florida on holiday from Germany, met him in 1998. Myrtle and Ned, of course, had their wedding right in front of beautiful Sandy Shores!

Like Ned, Myrtle fell in love with this beautiful property and its rich family history. Ned and Myrtle started to rent out their cottages in 2005 after a complete beautification and enjoyed every minute of sharing this lovely property with their guests. Myrtle carries on the Hall family tradition of hospitality at Sandy Shores and adds her special brand of German warmth. Her attention to detail and cleanliness makes Sandy Shores a unique and charming retreat.

Paradise!

What a wonderful property! Perfect for staying at while celebrating my friend’s 50th birthday. Definitely an old Florida feel and atmosphere. Myrtle has thought of everything and keeps it all in tip top shape. Especially loved the lounge chairs that could be taken to the beach! Can’t wait to come back with my husband.

Old Florida and great location

Great location for Beach, restaurants and supplies. Very Clean and what we expected based on the research. We had a miscommunication on our check in but was our fault. Myrtle was always making sure the property was maintained and did her best to communicate with us. Having beach supplies was a bonus. Only amenity we would have appreciated was a covered area for mostly rain. There are beautiful tropical areas that help with sun, but no covered outdoor areas for the daily rain showers.

Great stay

Loved the location, Myrtle was a wonderful host and the cottage was very clean. Lovely garden and terrific beach access. A great place to escape for a few days!

Sometimes “Quaint” Just Means “Old”

The VRBO app presents this as a beautiful vintage cottage right on the beach. In actuality it is a very small, rustic, non-renovated, smelly place. Major Cons: 1. Although it was supposed to be a non-smoking cabin, it reeked of very old tobacco smoke that just couldn’t be removed and it permeated our clothes. 2.No dishwasher, or ice maker. 3. The bathroom was so small one could barely turn around in it. 4. The TV had no written instructions and the owner did not know how to make the streaming services work either. 5. The washer and dryer were not in the cabin but in a separate building and it cost $4 per load. 6. The cabin was technically beach-front, but there was no view of it from the cabin and it was a significant hike to the beach. Major Pros: None that I can think of. We won’t be back.

Our family enjoyed the stay at the garden cottage. The room was clean, welcoming, and well decorated. Myrtle met us and gave us a tour during our check-in. The property is located on the beach with walking distance to many restaurants and bars. The property has a wonderful and beautiful garden to relax. We highly recommend this place.

Beautiful place!

Myrtle’s place was perfect for our little family vacation. Such a beautiful place and a very central location, with plenty of restaurants within walking distance. We loved the sunsets on the beach every night! The house was clean and organized, and included everything we needed for our stay. Thank you Myrtle, for sharing your beautiful space with us!

Highly recommend

We absolutely loved our stay in Myrtle’s cottage. Location is a 10/10. You cannot get much closer to the beach which was so convenient with kids and toys and umbrellas and chairs, etc. We were <1 minute walk to a surf shop, dining, an ice cream spot, and a CVS. The property is immaculately maintained. The cottage was plenty of room for our family of 4 and extremely clean. Myrtle is a gracious and accommodating host. She gave us a tour and everything was so well stocked (plus some) in the cottage. This was by far one of the best VRBO experiences we have had. We cannot wait to visit again.

Breathtaking

The host was thorough showing us the property and everything she had to offer us. The cottage and garden was amazing. Cottage was very clean nice homie feel. Garden was absolutely beautiful. Delightful

This was a delightful experience . We were in cottage one which does not have beach view, however, the gardens and sitting areas provide a sought after view of the water. Next time would love the cottage which enjoys a beach/ water view. There was ample shade around the property too which allowed respite from the heat of the day. We would definitely come again .

Perfect little getaway

We had a quick trip to Sandy Shores. The rental was exceptionally clean, well stocked, and comfortable. The property was gorgeous; Myrtle does a great job maintaining the grounds. You are literally beachfront, and the beach was never crowded. Myrtle provided everything you’d need to enjoy your days down by the ocean, too. We enjoyed the little town and there were plenty of options for dining. Can’t wait to come back!

A true gem!

Imagine reading your book, eating your meals, even napping with the soothing sound of waves. The beach is steps away through powdery white sand. Every evening features a beautiful sunset. Myrtle has created a beautiful garden with private pockets for relaxing. She has also thought of every need down to beach towels and an umbrella. Staying with her was like visiting a relative, comfortable and homey. This place checked everything on my list. I wanted small, quiet, shady with beach access without crossing a road. I was also drawn to the 1950’s v-groove paneling because it reminds me of my grandparents home. If you are interested in a more modern interior, you should book the gulf view cottage.

Spring retreat

This was the perfect place to unwind and relax. The gardens are so pretty and peaceful and the outdoor spaces are perfect for tanning, having coffee, or reading as well as a lovely dining area. Our host, Myrtle, is very detail oriented and has thought of so many details to make your stay easy and convenient. Comfy king size bed, a soothing “sleep machine”, basic toiletries, nice pans, and there is a very nice grill and washing machine and dryer for use as well . Myrtle has thought of everything such as beach chairs, noodles, umbrellas, and even boogie boards for the beach front. The rental unit was very clean and our host was extremely welcoming. Highly recommend and hope to return!

Beautiful Beachside Location

We had a lovely visit and enjoyed the cottage and beach so much! The cottage is cute and homey with all the comforts and necessities of home in the kitchen, living room, bedroom and bath. The grounds are fantastic for sitting in the shade and sipping coffee while watching the birds and ocean. The beach and ocean is clean, not very crowded, and loaded with sealife and birds to watch! The host is fantastic, very friendly, helpful and responsive to questions. I will definitely return to this lovely place.

Birthday Vacay!

We had a great time at Sandy Shores Garden cottage! We were celebrating a special birthday with a weeklong event that included beach, golf, Bucs football game, food, fun, sun, walking, craft beer, nature preserve, shopping, exploring and much needed R&R. We found the cottage so very quaint and furnished in old style Florida fashion...dark wood interior, turquoise colored bathroom tile, etc. The bathroom and shower is small but served our needs. The hot water gets hot quickly-we love that. Soft water results in flat hair but hey, we're on vacation so who cares? The kitchen has all the basics. We ate in a few times. Anecdote Brewing is right across the street and we love craft beer so a big plus there for us! Guilty Sea Sports Bar nearby had super margaritas for $5 and the bone in wings were great! I did used the big washer and the dryer. Only $4 - honor system. There is laundry soap but no dryer sheets or balls so may want to bring those. You can be as private as you want or socialize with the other guests. The beach is about a two minute walk from the door (depending how fast you stroll) There are chairs & beach items...Everything you need to have a good time. There's a grill too! I loved taking my coffee to the tall chairs to work on my puzzles. Myrtle is a wonderful gracious hostess! We loved our get-away and hope to return someday and maybe try the Gulf unit. We highly recommend this location and rental. Cheers!

Perfect weekend away!!

We’d been desperate for a long weekend away, and Ms. Myrtle and her beautiful property did not disappoint! The cottage was clean and had everything that we needed for our 3-night stay. We brought along breakfast items and enjoyed eating outside and sipping coffee overlooking the beach every morning. Check-in/out were both seamless. Myrtle was a quick phone call away (though we didn’t need to call, except to notify her we were packed and leaving) and she was frequently available to chat or ask a question as she was out and about caring for the property at some point each day. Overall, a wonderful stay with a wonderful hostess!!

Beach Weekend

My wife and I were looking for a long weekend at the beach. We have always loved the Indian Rocks Beach area. Booked Mrs. Hall's Sandy Shores and we could not have picked a better spot. On the beach , out door sitting areas with perfect view for sunsets in the evening and a morning cup of coffee. You are right in the heart of Indian Rocks and can walk to all the great spots IRB has to offer. The place is maintained impeccably . Hope to make it back in the future.

Sandy Shores has been in my late husband, Ned's, family for over 60 years. Ned's Grandmother bought it in 1946 and his Father built the first two-story building in 1952 and the Gulf Cottage followed in 1972.
I live onsite so I am available during your stay. I've also worked for 12 years in a local bank. One of the things my guests repeatedly tell me, is that they can see my love for Sandy Shores in the cleanliness and beauty of the property. I take pride in knowing my attention to detail ensures my guests have the most comfortable stay. And, for my German visitors, I enjoy speaking German to help you feel at home.
