Family-friendly villa with pool & beautiful view, near beaches, surfing & golf

Very attractive private family-home villa with pool, within 10-15 minutes drive to five lovely beaches (with great surfing) and various golf courses & tennis. The villa is set in its own large garden, with a fantastic location on the lower slopes of the hills running up from the sea, with a marvellous view up to the wooded mountain of Sintra. The villa is large, with lovely spacious living rooms, with a lawn, a big terrace and its own sheltered swimming pool.

- The house is 45 minutes drive from Lisbon and Lisbon airport and is 15 minutes from the historic town of Sintra and from various beautiful palaces. Tennis courts, mountain biking, golf courses and riding facilities are also all within 15 minutes drive. There are many great restaurants nearby, especially for seafood.

- The Sintra region is one of the most interesting in Portugal, with castles, palaces and gardens to visit. Overlooking the town are the ramparts of the 8th century Castelo dos Mouros, and the eccentric Pena Palace. The nearby town of Colares is charming, and the exotic gardens and small palace of Montserrat are only 10 minutes away by car.

- The sandy beaches of Sintra's coastline are famous: Praia Grande (great for surfing), Praia das Maçãs, Praia da Adraga, Praiai da Adraga and Magoito (further south), are all from 10 to 20 minutes car trip from the house. There is a big beach called Guincho south west of the house, where the surfing world championships have been held.

Wonderful villa near Sintra

Our family party were celebrating a birthday and we had a fantastic time at Casa do Cedro, the views from the house were lovely, the house was spacious and homely, the location was exceptional. So close to beaches, vineyards, castles and palaces. We could have stayed a month and not have seen enough!

One week stay

Great location to discover Sintra region. Big house, perfect for several families. The garden and the swimming pool were great for the children. I would recomend it.

Happy holiday

We had a fantastic week in Sintra. It was great. the house, the location the weather and specially me friends. We used the swimming pool and also swim in sea. It was cold but very nice with big waves. We could eat every day at the terras and used the bbq.

Fantastic family vacation

We loved the house and its location! So much charm and out of the way of the busy city. Rui was very helpful in getting us settled in, and even put us in contact with the owner’s friend that is a fantastic cook! The house/ appliances could use a bit of updating. Some of the rooms had a very strong musty smell and the mosquitoes were getting in from somewhere even though we were very careful to keep doors/windows shut (use bug spray on your pillows at night to keep them from attacking your face while you sleep). Mosquitoes aside, the house is oozing traditional Portuguese charm. So many nooks and crannies for the kids to sleep in too. We loved it!

Well-loved spacious family home.

This is a beautiful house in a lovely location with amazing views. Very well equipped with ample cutlery and crockery and all the amenities needed. I would suggest providing fans in the bedrooms as it got very hot - especially upstairs. We could also have done with more sunbeds as there were only 5 for potentially 9 of us.. We were sorry not to go on the tram into Sintra as that would have avoided the high season traffic jams. A car is definitely needed. The beaches were 10-15 minutes away and the beautiful Montserrat Palace and gardens a short drive too. Rui was very helpful and Mark is an excellent host providing very quick answers to my numerous questions.

Sintra gem

Not a classic VRBO but you will have been invited into your relative's family home. Designed and built in the 70's with orientation to the Sintra palaces which sparkle at night. Custom built and adorned with antiques and extensive library makes for a restful visit. A couple cautions. The house was built for a typical Portuguese height so there is a dangerous corner in the kitchen and taller ladies needed to bend down when using bathroom mirrors. Also, the VRBO address will not work when using UBER. I requested and received an alternative address from the PM. Last, a more complete visitor guide (eg printed google maps to stores, restaurants, train stations and mosquito prevention tips) would be very useful.

So viel und obendrein fast durchgängiger Regen bei kalten Temperaturen hat uns das Genießen etwas erschwert, zumal das Haus schwer zu heizen ist. Aber vermutlich hat sonst niemand ein solches Wetterpech...

Authentique maison portugaise

Dans la superbe région de Sintra, au pied du parc naturel, nous avons séjourné dans cette authentique grande maison portugaise meublée dans un style et un charme fou où rien ne manque en terme de confort. Un beau jardin et une piscine chauffée complète cette location. Nous avons eu l'impression d'être reçu chez des amis dans une maison familiale et non une quelconque location de vacances. Authentiek ingericht Portugese Villa

vakantie van Nederlands/Portugees familie. Heerlijke natuur , stranden en steden .Veel ruimte voor iedereen in de villa. Keurige gastheer .wij hebben veelal de tijd buiten doorgebracht in de tuin met fijn terras en zwembad . makkelijk te bereiken met auto en openbaar vervoer.inrichting van het huis is gedateerd. Min puntjes:last van muggen gehad. Nadat we een dag goed geventileerd hadden verdween de vocht geur , weinig ventilatie buiten vakantie seizoen? Al met al prima plek voor 13 personen.

De chouettes vacances !

Nous avons vraiment apprécié notre séjour dans cette villa. L'échange avec Mark lors de la réservation a été très agréable et rapide. La procédure d'arrivée a été charmante, reçus par Rui. La villa est très bien placée et a une superbe vue sur le Palais de Pena. Elle était très confortable pour nous huit avec de nombreuses chambres et salles de bain. Et la piscine, sacré plus pour partir en période estivale ! Nous recommandons vivement !!

Extérieur top, intérieur flop

Communication très compliquée avec la personne chargée de l'accueil, qui ne parle que portugais (contrairement à ce qui est écrit). Dans la cuisine, beaucoup d'ustensiles très sales, un frigo un peu petit pour 13 personnes et un grand four hors service. Un autre four multifonctions sans mode d'emploi (pas simple d'utilisation). Dans 2 chambres du rez-de-chaussée la literie est à revoir (on a pu améliorer un lit en bricolant, mais pas deux). L'extérieur est nickel, grande terrasse avec stores, buanderie et piscine. 2 passages pendant la semaine (lundi et jeudi) pour du nettoyage de linge et des sanitaires. Assez inhabituel pour une location de samedi à samedi.

Wunderschönes Anwesen in perfekter Lage

Wir haben mit drei Familien, insgesamt 12 Personen, zwei Wochen in diesem prächtigen Haus verbracht, und wir fanden, dass es eines der schönsten, interessantesten und angenehmsten Ferienhäuser ist, die wir in den Jahren unserer gemeinsamen Urlaube kennengelernt haben. Die Lage ist perfekt, einige der Paläste und Schlösser der Umgebung kann man direkt von der Terrasse aus sehen, und es ist weder weit zu den Stränden noch nach Sintra, Cascais oder Lissabon. Das Haus selbst ist ein kleines Wunder an Behaglichkeit, Großzügigkeit und interessanten Details. Es gibt eine beeindruckende Büchersammlung, in der man neben ledergebundenen englischen Klassikern auch Celines Reise ans Ende der Nacht auf Portugiesisch oder Enid Blyton auf Französisch findet. Für deutsche Gäste gibt es unter anderem komplette Jahrgänge der Zeitschrift Schöner Wohnen aus den 50er Jahren voll mit handschriftlichen portugiesischen Notizen. Wer sich für alte Nähmaschinen oder Kaminuhren interessiert, wird reichhaltige Sammlungen von beidem vorfinden, und es ist ein ausgesprochenes Vergnügen, anhand der Möblierung und der Einbauschränke hohe handwerkliche Kunst aus mehreren Jahrzehnten zu bewundern. Es gibt interessante Stiche und Zeichnungen, Handtuchhalter in Musikinstrumentenform, Leseecken und eine Tischtennisplatte. Es gibt auch einen gepflegten Garten, eine riesige Terrasse, einen Pool, eine Waschküche und eine Unmenge an bequemen Schlaf- und Badezimmern. Insgesamt finden wir, dass das Haus für sich eine eigene Reise wert ist. Natürlich gibt es ein paar Kleinigkeiten, die mit den Jahren vergnügter Nutzung unvermeidlich sind. Die Abflussrohre sind wie bei vielen älteren Häusern zu klein dimensioniert, so dass man sie mit etwas Feingefühl nutzen sollte, und die Arbeitshöhe der Küche richtet sich an die Durchschnittsgröße von Menschen aus früheren Zeiten. Allerdings kommt es einem ungebührlich vor, solche Dinge zu kritisieren - als ob man einer Königin sagen wollte, dass ihre Locken etwas schief sitzen. Herzlichen Dank für ein außerordentlich gastfreundliches Haus, das wir zwei Wochen lang jeden Tag genossen haben!

Great stay

We were a family group ranging from 12 to 82 and had a wonderful week at the house. It's characterful and quirky inside and has a great outdoor space with amazing views and a lovely pool which most of us had us brief swim in (it was April so still cold!). The location was perfect, quiet yet close to Sintra, from where you can easily get a train to Lisbon, and lovely beaches. Would recommend!
