The house overall was great. They are a little strict on noise but I think it's par for the course for Montauk. I don't think it is a fault of the host I just think Montauk has strict rental rules for owners. The house was very clean and very new. Great location and awesome pool area. We damaged one of the bed sheet sets and they were very fair on pricing that out. Good host overall.

Unfortunately, our experience at this property was very different from what we expected, and I would not stay here again. We paid an additional 50 per day to have the pool heated. Despite that, I was later charged another 200 related to heating the pool without my prior consent or authorization.Communication with the owner was also extremely uncomfortable. During our stay, she communicated with us through the property’s surveillance cameras and called me multiple times regarding her rules. On more than one occasion, the conversations escalated to the point where she was shouting at me. It made what was supposed to be a relaxing family vacation feel as though we were constantly being watched and monitored. There was also an incident where my son put a rock into the pool. The owner sent her husband to the property to inspect the pool, and there was no visible damage after he looked at it. Despite that, I was later charged for having sand removed from the pool.Another major issue was the condition of the property during our stay. The yard was actively under construction, with workers on site while we were staying there. This significantly impacted our privacy and enjoyment of the outdoor space and was not what we anticipated when booking a Montauk vacation home.I completely understand that vacation rentals have rules and that guests are responsible for legitimate damage they cause. My issue is with the additional charges, the level and manner of surveillance and commun

To clarify,
Our pool guy called us to report a huge rock was at the bottom of the pool when he was at the home servicing it during their stay for weekly cleaning. When we looked at our cameras to confirm how it got there we confirmed the guests teenage son threw it in. After making multiple attempts to contact the guest to discuss, we then reach out on our outdoor security cameras to make contact as it was imperative they not remove the rock without a professional coming to avoid damages. We informed her that we would need to come over immediately to confirm the brand new liner was not damaged and she became very combative and defensive. My sense was she was scared the liner may have been damaged and she would be responsible for that. Guest also tampered with mechanical equipment and raised the pool temp to 99 degrees which is why there was an additional propane bill for excessive heat use. Her misuse of hot tub also led to extra charges. The guest also dumped pounds of sand into our pool which also lent itself to extra cleaning charges. No idea why they did that, other than just negligence.
This was obviously an unpleasant experience and I have never experienced such a combative and disrespectful guest in my home. Our listing is very clear that we have outdoor security cameras all around the exterior of the property. I suggested she leave the property if she did not feel comfortable. It was at that point that she changed her tone and became very cooperative.
