I usually book properties based on reviews, so I will try to be detailed, hoping this will help the next potential tenants.

Location: the plus is that you are very close to the beach...just behind the big main house on the property (no actual beach view), the negative is that the property is located right next to the public parking area that everybody uses when going to this beach. During the day - not an issue, but at night...oh my god! We stayed there for a week and every single night people had loud, very loud music there, they were racing up and down the street and creating extremely loud noises with their engines (older trucks with big mufflers, so it was crazy loud). There's a note in the house to call the police for this, but when we tried - they didn't care. Also, there's a lot of rosters running around, so be ready to get up around 4-5am every morning.

The house: very, very outdated. The pictures look way better. The couches downstairs are different than pictures - old, stained and just not pleasant to sit on. Pretty much all the walls in the house are dirty, covered with stains...definitely needs a new paint or major cleaning. The sheets and blankets are also old and smelled bad. It was cold at night and we had to use 3 separate throws since there were no actual blankets there. I guess the pillows would be personal preference, but for the 3 of us they seems so bad. We all had back and neck pain from the mattresses and pillows - just seems old and worn out. All the faucets and shower heads were white plastic - maybe not a big deal to somebody, but for the kind of money they're asking - I expected something a little better. The kitchen was so small that you can forget about coking a nice meal in there....just some quick breakfast maybe, but it's extremely small.

Overall - we were very, very disappointed with this property. You definitely don't get what you pay for.

This place is situated just off the beach (with it's own short path to the ocean, and a with a private sitting area on the beach) behind the owners home. It's homey and cozy and very comfortable (the ability to blast the AC and shut out the sun in the bedroom being key!). The lanai is off the second floor bedroom, which is great - keeps the mosquitos at bay. A grill, a great little kitchen and a private yard and outdoor shower make this a perfect place to hole up and ignore the outside world. The place is right next to the peer (some noise but it's happy beach noise) which is so convenient to paddle boards, rentals, tacos and more! And the surf is noticeably calmer on this side of the bay (versus the other end of the bay) making it great for kids and families to swim - but that could also be a time-of-year thing. All and all, a PERFECT stay.

We just returned from our second visit to Nathan and Nanci's guest house and will definitely be back. The guest house is small but perfect for our small family - the location could not be better. The house is well appointed and the kitchen has everything you need to cook meals there. Great outdoor shower and a short path to the beach, around the main house. I met Nathan, who was in the main house for a few days while we were there - he was a great host and was super friendly, with some good surf tips. For surfers, the house is situated as close to Hanalei Bay/Point as you can get and there is good family surfing right out front next to the pier. Thanks for another great experience, Nathan and Nanci! We will be back.

This is a two-story small house on the property of the main house. It is THE closest house to the famous Hanalei Beach pier. This was perfect for a novice surfer because the best beginner and intermediate waves (October) are immediately to the right of the pier and further out beyond the break.(The other quality waves are far far left on the other side of the bay). I carried my board from the house, through the yard to the beach and right there is the pier. BOOM!

Accomodations are nice, clean,stylish, and updated. Their is an a/c unit upstairs in the master which was essential.

Internet is hardwired. That's great for laptops there was no WiFi which isn't ideal for smart phone use. But our carrier reception was fine.

Noise: ALL of the houses on the single street that run parallel to the beach near the pier have mild road traffic noise from surfers driving to the public beach 2 lots over. However, not once did it disturb us while we were sleeping or trying to sleep. Why? Because most people don't surf at night or early in the morning. During the day? Who cares. We were never home! We were in the water, hiking, boating...anything but staying home inside. Once or twice we took a daytime nap and the wind in the palm fronds or a/c unit pleasantly drowns out most of the road noise.

Some nice features are an outdoor hot water shower and spigot near the front door to wash sand off your feet. Sounds simple but not all homes have this and it's realllllllllly nice. Ie, we'd come off the ocean and beach, quickly rinse down, and then hop in our Jeep to grab some lunch or groceries.

Town's infrastructure is about a 2 minute drive away. Nice.

The owners are very nice and responsive to our needs. The blender (making smoothies) was broken and they replaced it the same day we notified them. Our deposit was promptly refunded. Quality folks.

The perfect house in the perfect setting. The house was exactly as described and you truly can't beat the location - close to everything and on the North shore (where you want to be). We loved cooking in the kitchen and bringing our food down to the beach, just steps away. Also, spent a ton of time on the upstairs porch reading books and enjoying the breeze. Can't wait to go back again. Lastly, Nathan was a great host.
