Located just 7 miles outside of Seward Alaska in the Bear Lake subdivision. Tiehacker Lodging is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beauty of Alaska. Guests can hike the nearby trails, watch the eagles soar, view fish and sometimes bears at the Bear Lake Weir, or visit any of the many local attractions.

An upstairs apartment with 1200 square feet of private space. We offer our guests clean, comfortable and spacious accommodations. The apartment features 3 bedrooms,1 bathroom, a full kitchen, dining room, living room and laundry. We will do our best to help you enjoy your visit to beautiful Seward Alaska!

This is an upstairs apartment. Owners reside in the apartment below the unit. In previous years the lower unit was the rental. All reviews dated prior to 2022 were related to the lower unit.

Please note that the stated room rate is based on double occupancy (2 people). There is a $25 per person per night fee for each additional guest after 2 and the property sleep up to 6 people.

Convenient lodging

This apartment was spacious and in a convenient location. The wifi worked well and the yard was nice for the kids to play in. It was also nice having a laundry room available. However, I was disappointed that the bathroom and kitchen weren't clean at time of check in. I ended up clorox wiping them down to clean.

Perfect Spot

Had a great time on this property. Place was clean and perfect size for family of 4. Quiet. Friendly. Very short trip into town. Would stay here again !!

Melissa was quick to respond, check in easy, directions were great. The house was clean, few amenities missing such as Kleenex and kitchen towels, no wine glasses.

Convenient access to Seward and Kenai Peninsula

The best aspect of this property is its location. We really wanted to visit the Kenai National Park on foot and by boat. We enjoyed being tourists in Seward, visiting the small shops, coffee houses, Aquarium and had a nice seafood dinner. The property was functional but less inviting compared with other properties we stayed in. For example, on entering the property there is a rather small area to remove shoes (Alsakan practice) with a metal folding chair. The first night was chilly, and the comforters were too light for us. We had to take a blanket from the living room and found another in the laundry room to keep warm. The bathroom was quite small for our group of 5. Nonetheless, given the options for accommodations in the area and the access the property provided to this part of Alaska, I don't regret staying there.

Seward fishing trip

Perfect location for a fishing trip in Seward! The place is clean and on beautiful land. We had 6 in our group and felt like we had plenty of room. Would recommend!

Great location, clean, great hosts

This home is the cleanest VRBO we have ever stayed. Very comfortable and spacious. It is a perfect location if you like to hike and enjoy nature as it is a short walk to some nice trails. The hosts are very nice and accommodating. It is also a short drive to Seward which is a great town and the center for all your activities. I will stay here again.

Very functional stay!

We really enjoyed our stay in Seward. The house was very large for us, 2 couples, with a nice size kitchen and dining room and a comfortable couch in the family room. The beds were very comfortable. I would highly recommend this place to other visitors!

Perfect for our needs

We booked Melissa's place for a workshop that was being held in Seward. Worked out better than a hotel because everyone had their own bedroom but was able to get to know each other in the communal areas. Place was very neat and the setting was beautiful. Thanks for letting us share your home!

Wonderful stay for 4 adults!

Beautiful place inside and out. We loved the close walk to the salmon weir, and a short drive to Seward. The apartment was well more than well equipped for everything we needed. Everything was smooth, and the view of the mountain is just gorgeous.

Wonderful Spot in Seward

Tiehacker was the perfect spot to stay while visiting Seward. With an amazing view of the mountain and close to trails, we were able to go for walks each day around Bear Lake. Town was a short drive. The hosts were friendly, great communicators, and kind enough to send an object left behind to our nephew in Homer. Definitely recommend!!

Warm and Dry

We loved our perch! It was a cozy place to warm ourselves and dry out after a long day of Seward tour attractions in the rain. There is room to cook together, then all huddle on the couch to gaze out to the greenery while sipping coffee. Thank you for the respite in our travels.

Comfortable and Convenient Bear Lake Stay

We had a charming stay over the Christmas holiday. Very quiet. Very cozy. Everything we needed was there and worked fine. Hosts were available while giving us complete privacy. Couldn't have been better.

Quick ride to Seward activities

Had a blast! 5 people were very comfortable and could easily have supported one or two more. Good internet and walking distance to salmon jumping at a weir. Clean and well kept.

Owners Melissa and Jeff Schutter both grew up and raised two children in Seward. We love Alaska and the outdoors. We spend as much of our free time as possible enjoying the great outdoors of Alaska fishing, camping, hiking, ATV riding and snowmobile riding. We offer our guests complete privacy. However, we are happy to recommend activities and places to visit and share stories if we happen to meet.
