Puu Poa - Magnificent Oceanfront Condo

I do not understand why the rare guest must write exaggerated negative reviews. The washer machine had JUST become unreliable. We could not know this until told by a guest which happened with the next guest. A new washer/dryer was ordered, but because on Kauai major appliances must come from Oahu, it takes a month to get there. There is no one on the island to fix it. This guest did not report it to us. They had my cell number or could easily have sent us a message at VRBO. Before the new washer/dryer was installed, I offered at no cost Concierge Laundry service where someone would pick up her laundry anytime and return it quickly fresh and clean. She never used it as she did not communicate with us, so saying "our question went unanswered" is unfair. We have to hear a question to answer it. The sheets and blankets are replaced frequently. The North Shore is wet, everything rusts and at some times of year, things can get a moldy smell, but there is a big difference between smelling moldy and BEING moldy. Moldy they are not. Unlike most condos with cheap rugs that really do get moldy, we have high-end wood floors (not laminate). With the humidity, some unevenness can occur due to the wood swelling (ditto the wood doors) and a slight creak is expected. The hot water heater is new and no one has had a complaint about it before. We both use the shower every day when we are there and hot water has not be an issue. Personally, I think the ratan shades are fantastic. They keep out the bright sun, but you can still see the ocean, just the right amount of transparency. In addition, we bought this condo at this location because no one can look into the condo from any other unit or from the ground on the ocean side offering complete privacy. The doors between rooms are slotted on purpose in order to allow the wonderful trade winds to glide through the unit. The only noise one might hear comes from the next room. Perhaps it was the children playing. Light fixtures rarely break and again there have no reports previously or since from other guests, but, of course, this will be checked out. I will not criticize the guest for the condition of the condo when she left.

I would like to respond to these comments. First, thanks for acknowledging the things that you found excellent. With regard for the criticism, I have had a lot of guests recently with many going out in the morning and then another guest coming in the same day. My cleaner has been very good, but there is a limit to how much time there is to check if something is missing. For instance, we have always had 2 umbrellas. Did the previous guests leave it at the beach or left it in the rental car? Probably. There is no other explanation for it being missing. Ditto for the cooler, which we have always provided. The cleaning of lanai drains is the responsibility of the HOA, not the owner. They never let us know when they will come and clean out the drains. Clogged drains will lead to water on the normally very clean decks. Regarding a workman coming in, potential guests should know that after you come in the outer door, the atria is open and is like a front yard with plants. The actual doors to the unit are inside that area. So there is a buffer between cleaning the atria drains and the doors to the unit. To clean the lanai, the occupant must let them in. If this somehow did not happen that time, I can only apologize for the HOA mistake. Guests are pretty tough on beach chairs. It is always surprising and they are replaced frequently. I am insulted by the snide comment that they did not know if they would be reimbursed for buying what they wanted if anything was missing. Of course we would. The living room sofa is not old at all. It was what is available in Kauai where the selection is very limited. I think the dark blue color is seen at old-fashioned even though it is fairly new. We are replacing it with something that has a lighter color by buying on the mainland and shipping it to Hawaii. Regarding the condition of the ottoman, this is news to us since there have been no other comments about it. When children are present, stains increase and we need to be told or the cleaner needs to see in order to clean. In the rare case, we are sorry when anyone is unhappy. The photos are absolutely genuine and recently taken as they are updated whenever new furniture is bought. We will be at the condo late August and replace anything missing or not in excellent shape.
