This cute cottage on the beach was perfect for my family and our dog. We were able to enjoy the view of the wild horses at various points throughout the day. You ABSOLUTELY must have a vehicle that is 4x4 or know how to drive on soft sand.

The house location, for us, was perfect. We have 3 kiddos and the location was great in regard to privacy and very little to no traffic. Super close to the beach which made traveling to/from with 3 little kids so nice & easy. Definitely need 4wd just to make it easier on you and your vehicle. Communication with the host was easy and efficient, when needed! Everything is as described/pictured. We would definitely stay again!

Wonderful Stay in Corolla

Property is in a wonderful location behind the dunes of Carova Beach. Very private location. Host was attentive and answered any questions that we had promptly.

Heaven

My wife and I stayed at Angi's beach cottage and it was the best vacation we ever had. First time in OBX. Cottage was perfect for us it was simple, secluded and the scenery was breathtaking. Horses visited often day/night. We fell in love with OBX Smooth Sailing exceeded my expectations in everyway.

Remote Adventure

Such a peaceful & beautiful setting in the Outer Banks. The dogs had a fabulous time & we cooked seafood until we popped! Great place to relax, surf fish, walk the 'neighborhoods' & see the wild ponies.

Hard to leave!

We had an amazing time here! The kitchen had everything we needed and the views were incredible from the top deck. The horses added to the beauty. We saw them every day and under the deck one night! It was the best time!

Perfect Beach Cottage

This property was amazing. Secluded enough to feel comfortable and safe but within a few miles of shops and dining. The wild horses come to the house everyday and the ocean view is amazing. Driving on the beach is a unique experience. We will return for sure and Angi was a pleasure to work with. Kathleen C

Family Beach Vacation

Smooth Sailing is the perfect place if you are looking for a low-key spot away from the overly "touristy" areas of OBX. The sand road can be intimidating until you get used to it, but the convenience of loading up your beach gear and driving it up to your spot is worth it! Angi is a wonderful host--very quick to respond to any question and address any issues. We really enjoyed our stay!

2nd Week of September OBX vacation

Great location on 4wd beach. Perfect for small family or a few friends. Beautiful views of dunes from the top deck. Relatively easy to get to verses other places deeper in the dunes or further up the beach. Angi was very responsive addressing any questions or concerns.

Peaceful escape

Smooth sailing is a peaceful gem on the 4x4 beach. We love the location. Sitting on the deck or in the sun room is magical. You can only hear the sounds of the waves and the birds. We saw 4 wild horses in yard on our last day!!! Truly a wonderful place to stay. The house is nothing special/fancy, but it has character and is well equipped with everything you may need!

Amazing views

There were 2 of us staying for the week. It's the perfect size for a small group. The views from the top deck are perfect. The horses were around almost daily. I also loved listening to the frogs after the hurricane passed through. The home was well equipped.

Great location and communication with property manager. The house is good size for single family. It has a rustic and beach vibe decor. Although I prefer white simple decor. The furniture is comfortable. The mattress and bed linen could use an update. The place is clean enough but can use a good full house cleaning.

The house was your typical beach house which is what we like. You definitely need 4 wheel drive, which we had, but still got stuck. 400 for a tow. Close walk to the beach with beautiful views from the second floor deck of the house. Great outside grill. Awesome to see the ponies. The owner lives in the next house. She watches the rental house very closely. So that’s a bit unnerving. She contacted us two times, one time in person once on the phone. I know she meant well, but at the same time feels invasive. Make sure you arrive during daylight so it is easier to find the house. Also, since we have never been there, we didn’t realize how much traffic is driving on the beach. Overall good time.

I always want guests to enjoy the peace & beauty of the area. And privacy is part of the experience I fully understand that. I would not be contacting a guest if it wasn't important. Like if outer doors were left open during a thunder storm. Or if my neighbour calls me to advise that my guest & her dog were seen on his surveillance camera trespassing on his property. Communication is not an insult. It's they way folks work things out on the beach.

Amazing views

What a special place! Because of penny Hill, i assume, there aren't any houses on one side so u really feel like its just you out there. The horses address always majestic as well as the sunrises and sunsets. A very special place and we love it! House was perfect size for two of us and our pooch. We also loved it wasn't right on the beach where all the cars are.

North Carolina Outer Banks vacation

We are older so the stairs were a little tough for us. The beds were not comfortable for us either. The view was spectacular. It was really had to find the first time. The manager responded to every request very quickly. There was a bug frozen in the freezer.

The house is built on pilings. All semi oceanfront dwellings are. Please read the description in the listing. If you can't do stairs this rental is not suitable for you. There are 3 bedrooms.There is a queen size bed in the master bedroom and twin size bunk beds in each of the other bedrooms. The queen has a pillowtop mattress with a memory foam topper for extra comfort. The twin beds also have mattresses with memory foam toppers. There are also a çouple of cots that can be set up if another bed is needed or someone doesn't wish to sleep on the top bunk. I empty and clean the fridge from top to bottom before every check in. There are fly paper strips placed in the kitchen. If doors are left open some flies will get in. There's flying insect spray under the kitchen sink.

Sand, sun and horses

Really cool place in the 4 wheel drive only section. Located about 3 miles into the dunes and takes about 15 mins to get to “town”. House was perfect for us and could sleep up to 6 comfortably. Ocean views over the dunes Owner checked in with us. Saw horses everyday. Pod of dolphins as well.

Beach house

The house was exactly as listed, Angi is an excellent property manager, and was very helpful for us during our stay. The beach road is an experience in its self. Definitely need to air down your tires and 4x4 is an absolute must! We loved watching the horses graze and move through the dune area and onto the beach. They are truly amazing. Overall everything was great for a very quiet relaxing week.

Visit with the mustangs.

We arrived just at dusk on the beach access, but by the time we drove to where we needed to turn off - it was dark! Angie texted us to ask how we were doing and was promptly out with flashlight to guide our way. What a welcome and joy! Any questions we had were answered quickly . Wonderful stay, wonderful property and wonderful hosts! Thank you!

In future I will mark the entrance of the ramp by a reflecting light for guests that arrive after dark. There’s a solar light on the post by the entrance of Smooth Sailing. The house is backed on 2 sides by dunes and grassland so you should have no problem seeing the light. If you have any problems, please contact me. My office is on the beach side of the road at 1551 Sandpiper. I am there pretty much 24 hrs.
