This home was everything we hoped for and more. Each detail was thoughtfully placed and clearly labeled. The home was perfectly maintained and everything was in like-new condition. It was immaculately clean and looked exactly like the photographs on the website. The beds were comfortable. The house decor was tasteful, relaxing and chic. Very attractive. The kitchen was well laid out and included everything we could hope to find there.The only TINY comment I have is a suggestion that you change the damaged cord to the plug on the standing lamp next to the LR sofa. It looks as if somebody has tried to “fix it” with electrical tape. However, as the floor outlet abuts the edge of carpet, I think that the faulty plug/cord could prove to be a fire hazard and should be professionally repaired at a lamp shop. When I come back to Corolla, I will endeavor to stay at the Salty Unicorn again. Highly recommend!

We absolutely loved the property. Several issues that need attention with the stove, washer and toaster oven and grill that the owner has been advised of. It didn’t deter from a wonderful time at The Salty Unicorn. Love the Outer Banks!

The house was very clean and manageable. It has a Jacuzzi which we did not use. The right side covered parking is a little bit narrow and had some difficulty opening doors so I ended up parking in the driveway. The left side probably would not handle a truck because of the grill that’s chained to the pole. Access to the beach is 500 feet, but there is a considerable number of steps to climb to get over the dune so I did not take my little wagon and just carried the essentials. I noticed that other people also parked their wagons at the boardwalk. As far as the house is concerned, I would not hesitate to recommend this as a nice stay. There is a sitting area on the sizable porch between the Jacuzzi and the front door, but there is an observation deck above that off of the master bedroom. So, when it rains, water does come down in that area and over the Jacuzzi.

The house is not maintained. There was sand everywhere when we got there. There was roaches in the kitchen and the air conditioner was broken making the living area unlivable. Village Reality brought out two window AC units and said they would send a tech out the next day which never happened. I called and texted them with no response for days. The night before we left they brought a third window unit for the living space.

Accurate and prompt direction from the company managing the property for the rental (example, the door access code or WiFi password), but no responses for any of the messages that we sent (both asking questions and providing feedback). Other than that, we had a great time and stayed in a great place! Thanks!

Wonderful stay at The Salty Unicorn! The location is perfect just a short walk to the beach. You can hear the sound of the waves from the cottage. The host was very communicative and answered any questions expeditiously!

Home just as described on website, very easy to check-in. Just me & spouse in our 60's looking for a house with a hot tub, that was the main reason picked this one, also having a pool table was a bonus. The house has been remodeled beautifully, in a very nice neighborhood, in walking distance to beach access. Could hear the ocean on top deck, was very quiet, nobody in houses on either side of us. Also, very close to restaurants and shopping. Highly recommend this property.

Refreshing Location and Close to Beach

Highly Recommend!

My husband and I, along with another couple enjoyed our stay at the Salty Unicorn. It was clean, well equipped, comfortable and a short walk to the beach. I highly recommend this property to others and would stay again when we are in the area!

Information at top of this page is not correct. We checked in on 5.13 and checked out on 5.20. VRBO site allowed us to book for a short stay, then days later was informed we needed to stay for a full week at an additional cost. Someone needs to do better to ensure accuracy of property information. Had I not already paid for the shorter stay I would have made a different property selection that would have fit the dates I wanted. Did not appear that property was swept or vacuumed prior to our stay. Bugs beside bed on 1st floor, broken shells on floor near entry table. Used water bottle left in shower on 1st floor. Multiple emails the day prior to departure made us feel rushed to leave the property so it could be cleaned vs allowing us to leave at stated check out time.

Wonderful stay

Our family of 4, which includes 2 teenage sons, absolutely loved our stay here. From relaxing in the hot tub to friendly pool table competitions, this location was just right for us! The short walk to the beach was no problem. We loved our first trip to Corolla!

Salty yet sweet

The more I travel to the OBX in the off-season the less I want to go in summer. Six inches of snow fell the night before we arrived. We did have to shovel the decks; however, the Salty Unicorn was warm and ready for our arrival. The hot tub was hot and freshly cleaned as well which was perfect with the weather. Two minute walk to the beach, two minute drive to the grocery store. And even in deep off-season there were plenty of restaurants to choose from. Lots of media options included at the house and the pool table made for plenty of distractions when not walking the beach.

Lovely clean and modern home

Lovely home, perfect for the three of us. Very clean and as described. Short distance from the beach, probably 500 steps.

It is a beautifully redone home. They have about anything you would need in the kitchen and throughout the home. The master bedroom and bath were amazing.

June 2018 Stay

The location of the house is perfect. The House had all you could ask for. The views from the Decks were amazing. Great place to watch the sunrise, sunset and grab an afternoon nap! Game room was awesome! Bedrooms were all comfortable. Kitchen and Living room space was huge and was perfect for our family vacation. House was well decorated and had all the amenities for a comfortable and relaxing vacationj. Village Reality did an awesome job setting us up with the perfect Home for our vacation.

Beautiful remodeled beach cottage, and in the middle of it all

First trip to OBX and couldn't have picked a better vacation stay. Remodeled inside and out, just the right size for a small group, very well-appointed with all the comforts of home, just steps from Corolla Beach and a short, easy bike ride to all of Corolla's markets and attractions.
