Lake Whatcom's Best Cottage, Great For A Couple Or A Family Of Eight

The Sunshine House is located on Lake Whatcom's more private South Bay. Originally built 100 years ago as an office for a local coal mining company this 2 bedroom home has just been completely restored to a cozy, comfortable lakeside retreat with tons of character. We have created a space perfect for the most romantic getaways or a simple fun family escape.
Each of the 2 bedrooms sleeps four. One room has a queen and a bunk bed and the other has a full and a bunk bed.
Private dock to accommodate your boat and boat launch less then a minute down the road.
The bay is a no-wake zone which makes it great for swimming and paddle sports. A short idle out of the bay lends to great wake boarding, tubing and all other water sports.

The Sunshine House is only a 25 minute (beautiful!) drive to Bellingham which has great antique stores, amazing restaurants, whale watching tours, and at least 9 local breweries (they keep opening up!).
There is beautiful hiking all around us. Stimpson Family Trail (only 10 mins away) and The Pacific Crest Trail (20 mins) are just two great examples.
Mountain biking is one of Bellingham locals favorite activities and it is apparent when you ride up Galbraith Mountain, only 10 to 15 mins away!
Mt. Baker, which holds the world record for the most snow in one year, is only 38 miles away.
We have tons of fun parks including, Lake Padden, Whatcom Falls Park and Boulevard Park.

Christmas on the lake

We had such a great time at the yellow lake house playing games, cooking and just hanging out enjoying the beautiful view of the lake.

Great stay to drop off for college

We stayed here to drop our daughter off at college. Great location and close to everything. Place has a lot of charm and is cozy.

Great lake front cottage

Cottage was very nice and decorated tastefully. The prime lake front location with private dock was perfect. The large grassy yard was also great for our dogs who were welcomed to stay with us (which was also an added bonus for this lake front cottage). The 1 bathroom is small, so would be a tight fit for a larger group, but otherwise no complaints. We enjoyed our stay!

Family Getaway

Had a great week at this property. The place was super cute and comfortable. Loved the sunrises each morning - just beautiful. The owners were fantastic and super responsive to our questions and needs. Would have given all 5 stars except for the closeness to the road car noise. Would definiately stay again! Thanks for the great week!!

Wonderful lakeside cabin

We keep coming back to this little gem. We paddle around the lake and have our coffee on the covered porch as we watch the sun rise. The hosts are responsive and friendly, the access to the lake is dreamy, the house is comfy and well stocked, and we’ve made the best memories here. Highest recommendation!

Amazing place for family with kids

Vintage lake house nicely updated with all of the modern comforts. Good location for visiting North Cascades NP and Mt. Baker. Even better for lake activities.

Super cute house, right on the lake

For friends and our dogs enjoyed a weekend at the sunshine house. The decor is ridiculously cute and unique. It is obvious the owners have an affinity for antiques. The beds and living room are comfortable. The view is sensational.

Fantastic Lakeside Getaway

Came to Bellingham to celebrate my daughter’s graduation from WWU. So happy we found this adorable and fun place to stay. Amanda and Chad were great to work with. We can’t wait to come back again when the weather is a warmer.

Lovely cabin

Surprisingly spacious, charming and well appointed, this cozy cabin had all we needed for our family of 4 and pup. Will possibly try it out in the summer so we can make use of the lake amenities.

Wonderful as always!

We've stayed here many times before over the years and we love the house and the location! Right on Lake Whatcom, but feels like it's on a smaller almost private lake, it's always beautiful and relaxing. We will definitely be back!

Family reunion

Spent 10 perfect days with perfect weather in a perfect cabin. All the charm of an Adirondack camp with PNW views and only a quick drive into Bellingham to see our kids. Perfect.

Great place

Being right on the lake with a boat dock, it is a great place for bringing your boat. The hosts, Chad and Amanda, were super accommodating,eveng arranging an alternate boat launch ramp when the public one was closed.

Respite Delivered

Such a charming house. Everything you need with tons of thoughtful touches. After a tough year we badly needed a respite and The Sunshine House was perfect. The star of this house for me is the front porch. Watching the sunrise over the water and sipping coffee in total peace and quiet was heaven. Even my dog seemed shocked by the beauty of it. Thanks again for a wonderful weekend!

Excellent lake access

The outoor facilities, dock and lake access are fantastic. House and kitchen are functional and great for young famlies or groups with lots of kids. Beds and indoor seating not rhe best for seniors. Bath room is small and very basic.

Slice of heaven

Loved our stay. It’s perfect. I could stay forever. Feels like home. The cottage has everything we need. There’s a little grocery mart if needed just down the road with a great pizza/ pasta next store. The lake is heavenly. So peaceful.

Lakefront peaceful getaway

We so enjoyed this property and are thankful that our two small dogs were able to join us. We all loved the large lakefront property and the use of the canoe too. Great location if you are looking for day trips into Bellingham. Comfortable bed and so peaceful we were able to fully unwind quickly. Most likely the cleanest VRBO property we have ever rented.

Friend Reunion/Lake Getaway

Perfectly quaint, comfortable and relaxing. Great for our group with kiddos and a furry friend. Excellent communication with the owners. A member of our party left their laptop under a bed. The owners were quick to report back that it was there and work with us to return it. A fantastic stay all around!!

Beautiful property, lots of lakefront including dock. We brought our kayaks and used them every day. Nice firepit overlooking the lake. Great covered porch overlooking lake with eating area.

Great location

The location is beautiful and right near a large network of trails. The home is cozy and the large kitchen was perfect for cooking for a group. Better than we even expected!
