Lake Whatcom's Best Cottage, Great For A Couple Or A Family Of Eight

The Sunshine House is located on Lake Whatcom's more private South Bay. Originally built 100 years ago as an office for a local coal mining company this 2 bedroom home has just been completely restored to a cozy, comfortable lakeside retreat with tons of character. We have created a space perfect for the most romantic getaways or a simple fun family escape.
Each of the 2 bedrooms sleeps four. One room has a queen and a bunk bed and the other has a full and a bunk bed.
Private dock to accommodate your boat and boat launch less then a minute down the road.
The bay is a no-wake zone which makes it great for swimming and paddle sports. A short idle out of the bay lends to great wake boarding, tubing and all other water sports.

The Sunshine House is only a 25 minute (beautiful!) drive to Bellingham which has great antique stores, amazing restaurants, whale watching tours, and at least 9 local breweries (they keep opening up!).
There is beautiful hiking all around us. Stimpson Family Trail (only 10 mins away) and The Pacific Crest Trail (20 mins) are just two great examples.
Mountain biking is one of Bellingham locals favorite activities and it is apparent when you ride up Galbraith Mountain, only 10 to 15 mins away!
Mt. Baker, which holds the world record for the most snow in one year, is only 38 miles away.
We have tons of fun parks including, Lake Padden, Whatcom Falls Park and Boulevard Park.

Yellow Lake house stay

We stayed at the little yellow lake house while attending festivities for our son’s wedding near by. It was a perfect setting for us and out of town family staying with us. A beautiful, peaceful setting for a break between activities. We enjoyed using the kayaks and sitting and watching birds and seeing turtles in the lake. Our dog enjoyed romping around the lake side.

Perfect place on our favorite lake!

We frequent Lake Whatcom often, but needed a place to have family stop in and enjoy a day with us over a few day period to celebrate a couple of our kids accomplishments. The ample parking and huge yard on the water worked perfectly for us. The dock allowed us to keep our water toys on standby for whenever someone felt the need to enjoy the water. The yard size allowed us to have yard games, seating, and food service with plenty to spare. The fire pit area was great for after the sun went down. The kitchen was much bigger than we remembered seeing in the pictures, with nearly everything we needed for our stay. The entire place was clean and comfortable. The bathroom and shower are not the highlight of the house but are more than adequate for a cozy cabin on the lake. We and many of our friends and family will be trying to find an available weekend to enjoy this place again. Not many places like it.

Great lake front cottage

Cottage was very nice and decorated tastefully. The prime lake front location with private dock was perfect. The large grassy yard was also great for our dogs who were welcomed to stay with us (which was also an added bonus for this lake front cottage). The 1 bathroom is small, so would be a tight fit for a larger group, but otherwise no complaints. We enjoyed our stay!

Family Getaway

Had a great week at this property. The place was super cute and comfortable. Loved the sunrises each morning - just beautiful. The owners were fantastic and super responsive to our questions and needs. Would have given all 5 stars except for the closeness to the road car noise. Would definiately stay again! Thanks for the great week!!

Wonderful lakeside cabin

We keep coming back to this little gem. We paddle around the lake and have our coffee on the covered porch as we watch the sun rise. The hosts are responsive and friendly, the access to the lake is dreamy, the house is comfy and well stocked, and we’ve made the best memories here. Highest recommendation!

Super cute house, right on the lake

For friends and our dogs enjoyed a weekend at the sunshine house. The decor is ridiculously cute and unique. It is obvious the owners have an affinity for antiques. The beds and living room are comfortable. The view is sensational.

Fantastic Lakeside Getaway

Wonderful as always!

We've stayed here many times before over the years and we love the house and the location! Right on Lake Whatcom, but feels like it's on a smaller almost private lake, it's always beautiful and relaxing. We will definitely be back!

Family reunion

Spent 10 perfect days with perfect weather in a perfect cabin. All the charm of an Adirondack camp with PNW views and only a quick drive into Bellingham to see our kids. Perfect.
